  1. A bonus question, Who won the Race?
  2. In the spirit of sharing a commonality with you @Jim Green I post a picture I took back a few jumping seasons ago. How many of the jockeys can you name? I will post another photo from my collection for each one you get correct.
  3. Still going strong @....
  4. Asking for a friend! Why did the rider of the champ have to hit him like that?
  5. Tick, many I think struggle to understand the difference between Critical and Negative! Many can then take it personal! Especially so 'on-line!'! I be very thankful that life has given me a thick skin!
  6. The concept that I am referring to, was based on the research I had undertaken back in 95 about "racing ownership in NZ", I was lucky enough to have been able to present this info, my research, to one of NZ top economists, one who has/had held the top govt role in that position, he was a keen racing man! he crunched all the names, we when got together to meet and discuss my 'info', he stopped and said "gee, this is a classic case of a sunset industry'. that was based on the historical decline of 'real' investment in the Industry. Simple put, the pie was getting smaller and was only tracking one way... Its been interesting to see how 'the whales' have been able to mitigate their 'investment' by the White Knight Sir Winnie of NZ1st galloping in to.... re The Clubs, most of their stuff has been around 'moving chairs on the titanic' and procedural politics around 'picking prefer club$' and transfer wealth from the periphery clubs to the core chosen clubs.. country to city (over the years there has been some interesting economics share around that process, sigh, one person springs to mind, dam I cant recall his name, Laurie M from down southland?? others have made interesting comments, again, names escape me Rod HIll? Its interest to see what has been directed at 'The Punters', some great improvements have come via better technology options, TV and the range of betting options etc... but there has been a interesting contradiction at play their! Along with the 'more sorts of bets' , the TAKE OUT$ have increased Big Time, that was covered in a post put up here a few months back around real insights from that au bookie, ( I was surprized that that thread got almost no responses) he pointed out that all those excocts slowly over time negated actual turning over of any punters betting, simple put, most lost their money quicker!!!! and that in the end negates final profits going forward. Having said all that!!! Speaking personally, HOW can One make sure the One Gets Some FUN out of having a interest in 'things racing nz'. Lol, I have spat the dummy a few time over the last ten years! tragically, I keep dusting it off and coming back for more! I hope you are finding some joy, somewhere, with your involvement! ps @TAB For Ever I await your brutal critique of the above!
  7. toughen up! racing is a text book example!
  8. I bet my mate likes the syn track, his horse bolts into! ye ha!
  9. June 3rd, 4 full pages. Was this in other papers? or a contra deal with ODT?
  10. the odt i believe still have a racing lift out for the sat races, but didn;t for the last sunday races.. I put up the lift out I was referring to,,, re is it a good paper, umm, yes for lighting the fire!
  11. Not so much that I would like, yes I would like. It was promised that it was going to happen, but didn't, and the chances of it happening are @500/1 the 'industry' is locked into the current model I presume a 'profit crisis' will kick in at some stage, as a older punters pass and the younger ones will bet on sport etc,,, sigh
  12. Sadly all rather hypothetical, as Wingman said, the promises of dedicating nz racing to one channel was just more 'piss in the wind'. Sigh, I more and more resigned to the fact that my style of betting will not be catered for! I have a Iron rule, 100% locked in. I Have to see the horse and hopefully get a good look at the ones I think are the ones that can also win. Sometimes for the group races it almost happens! But the reality is that the TAB are now locked into the model they have, it doesn't need to cater for my style of betting, plenty of mugs will to lose their money, though the pool is getting smaller.. talking the TAB, there was a 4 page advt recently in the ODT, I photo it and put it up, I think is shows what direction they see betting going...
  13. "POLLY WANTS A CRACKER" 🦜🦜
  14. yip, you be on to it... just more propaganda. for many years I was involved in a couple of betting groups, turned over 100k + a year in each! I with drew, they quickly collapsed, all the others gave up over time! lol, coz they went back to betting dumb! I often took the trouble to go on course so that the clubs could click the ticket$.. sigh!
  15. what about punters who actually Bet in larger numbers, and actually like to SEE the horses before they wager? I could continue in this vane..
  16. yip, that is what I have been doing, more so as each seasons goes on! The slowdown starts around the ending of the G1's in Sydney and Melb, continuing through the Queenland's G1's... I Use to love trying to find the winner of the likes of the Whyte Hc, Parliamentary and Cornwall, I think my contracting intere$t in winter racing has followed their sad demise... Still have a interest in trying to find the W of Winter Cup. I've actually been hanging in for the last few years via running CWJ's fan page, committing to stick in until he hands up the saddle, he's still hoping to be back is him! I found that as the year rolls by and we continued to get bombarded with more and ,more races, less actually coverage of the actual horses, less coverage after the race, often pathetic filming of prelims, especially so re our G1's.. sigh, please don't mention the state of the tracks!! rave over!
  17. I hope the old rule of "age before beauty still applies!"
  18. 1000% in agreement with your sentiment!! I so know of the massive work being put in by upfront honest people with only the best interests of themselves and others in their locations! Under massive 'critical propaganda', historically from the likes of that Messara and his elk! From 'head office' regarding needing to have a track rated X... Very hard to be fighting or trying to tame Nature! My late dad was heard to say "if you are not enjoying it, then pack up and move on.." re racing, that be easier said than done! gee, it has certainly berried itself deep inside me! and others I'm sure with passion for the industry as well!!! sigh, Its feeling more and more like the old punch drunk boxer, hoping for one last win, one last buzz, when perhaps around the corner is just more pain that gain!
  19. 1: I think in the modern area, especially as now all the video's are up free to stream, there is less and less wants around getting the framed photos, especially so for the 'big players'. 2: The have been slowly running auctions, have not seen any racing stuff uo yet, I will find a link for you and send it your way! 3: I was led to believe that a lot was binned as in 4.. You might recalled that around the time of energy being put into trying to get a Racing Museum in place, by the likes of S Archer and W Pye, there was discussion around 'memorabilia', also energy was being put in around Hall of Fame, my suggestion was, wasn't this a good time to go back to the districts and start a search for what was out there for each area, that didn't get much traction with the Waikato and Auckland (mafia/whales) winning for what we have now! Meaning, I recon now a lot will be lost forever, especially as the following generations continue to treat a day at the races as a good excuse for a piss up! To me the qualifying criteria HoF is flawed! How the hell is Noel Eales not in there.. and some of the Great Families should be given their due... All the above is yet another reflection of a Sunset Industry!
  20. pardon...
  21. 500 for the stables two horses...
  22. tick.. so many meeting now a days are what I call Owners meetings, there for them to try and wins some stake money. No serious punter would want to bet into them.
  23. I was going to go! but at 7.08 our internet crashed and I could contact the mate who was going to give me a lift! He went and got there just in time watch the 2nd, his horse and trainer arrived 5 minutes later and they didn't even unload from the float! 2nd abandoned meeting for their horse! Don't want to start on the syn track, hoping for Oamaru. They did get a payment for the cancelled Wingatui meeting.
  24. 'we' took' about 1000 photos there
  25. a great results for those paid to propagate the propaganda! I ponder how many Marketing have passed through the Industry this century? They certainly don't last long down this way..
