  1. Lst win 25/9/1984 40+ wins doh! I can't recall him?
  2. tick.... a simple sensible approach! they have set the standard!
  3. Racing has a history of 'flying pigs' "dead cat bounce', now we have real pigs turning up!!! you couldn't make it up! ? Challenging I'm sure for those involved! ps, I have a long term family connection to this track! Maternal GD won the 1926 Kumara Nuggets! sadly he died two years later of the "flu that kills so many back then! later other rallies have been stawarts for many years...
  4. what a strange post! 'everything is politics'. unless you are ignorant! which so many at the coalface on racing are... Which has been clearly shown by the lack of a coordinated 'political' response to the M report!
  5. Actually, I could put a strong case up that the 'neo-liberal' right wing politics on the Lange Govt had a real material direct results! Since then we have seen a ma$$ive % of 'wealth' delivered up the food chain!!! I could also suggest that if you look at when racing was travelling well! 50/60's was when the the working class in nz was doing well. The Nats have not done anything collectively as they individually KNOW that this is a Sunset Industry!
  6. to my eye she didn't present well... ran to those looks...
  7. where did you buy your copy? cost? (x52) personally! give me the pdf's at tab anyday.. earlier in the week its loveracing site for noms and fields... and videos if you want/need to! sigh, I say again (as a person who had 100's of photos published in old Friday Flash!) It's Digital all the way! this is just another example of how a sunset industry bleeds going forward!
  8. I'm sure he will again ride overseas, be it Sydney or elsewhere. He can win a Prem or is it run 1/2/3? and then ride in Asia
  9. personally, i like betting into theses small fields.
  10. I heard he was a good mate of yourse Joe! ? ...does this fella hate over watering of the Tracks?? Talking Riccarton! it holds my World Record for Watering! the outside half of the track for one meeting! and didn't tell the punters??? ps, re the ends of horses! as happens sometimes! the Wife might be playing a Big Role if it the person I think you are referring to?
  11. ???? I was paraphrasing what the trainer said..
  12. What I think you struggle to understand! There is a needed comradery to be displayed from all riders because of safety issues.. it's horses they are riding not cars! . also, for most! there needs to be a sharing culture, be it sharing driving (to be keeping the costs down!), be it sharing the ever struggles with weight and disappointments! Once in the gates! chaos rules! The position taken up in the running of any race involves many factors! Human choice being one! With the brilliant digital cameras that are in use today rather negate the various skulldugger that might have be gotten away with in the past! i could continue in this vain....
  13. If I recall correctly, they started watering around the time the horse numbers started to thin out! early nineties? Now it tends to be framed around 'best practice'! so sadly this practiced is locked in! Just another key thing in racing where Integrity has little practice!!! Lol, Michael is always good for a throw away comment when he is charged up by a Win!!!!
  14. you have missed the bit "jockeys are not stupid, they know that if the do get drawn into a speed battle then they all lose" (or something like that). For what it's worth! why would you want to take on a noted front runner like The M???
  15. It was a bittersweet race for me! f#*$#*$*ing tab site lagged when I was attempting to put a win bet on the T horse! Watched the race!!! 'spat the dummy out!' oh! change of result! ?
  16. what ever happened to Ian Boyland? ps. you be a game man to be visiting that other site! only a sad shadow of it's once great past!
  17. doh!!! now that makes sense to me! based on 'studying Mr Eales'...
  18. i think i might have known a couple of them... I recall also things like jumping out of windows! and driving into brick walls at speed! the paradox for me! lol finally! I can ground a profit out! and am still improving at seeing the horses I need to be backing! but I ponder is it worth the Stress and mental energy to be doing so at my age! My partner doesn't mind at all the races being on.... I have no real need for getting a $ this way! especially when it seems I will always be pissed off with the way the film race day in nz... I'm really enjoying muting the sound now! hey, did you see there is energy for some sort of awapuni reunion next june! 'the golden years'
  19. ? back in a day! it was very helpful to know know whom Mr Eales thought would improve with maturity... he thought a horse was at its best for about two weeks each campaign ... it would make interesting reading his stats around "did they improve with age... my intuitive answer would be yes! which contradicts the research Curious posted!??? Talking about my betting/horse logic! How i framed my bet on Loire, was based around hoping that she going show improvement by just getting that much more mature! hence, I had two pre bets on her! After each Hastings run! a very rare event! (I do pre bet mlb and nfl) I didn't bet into the Ak3yerFillyrace, it was a must watch race for me! and I then backed her on the day! base on, the second she was shown on the telly! My eye went Yes! Didn't care about the 'gear', she when down and look ready to run at the barrier! I backed her three times from then! quite a surreal event! a couple of near neighbours were there to enjoy it as well!!!! lol! the 'mean tight one missed out on a wager! which was a musing to see!!! Which I could say it will be easy to repeat!
  20. historically the approach has been "how to make a small fortune at racing! start with a bigger one!" or another approach is 'allow them to write off most of the losses via tax rebates'. If you want a insight into that approach just go and look up companies records!
  21. for me, about 40 bets on racing! re the racing, 30 nz and 10 au almost never bet when there is rain on the day. almost no bets may through august. unlike many, i love betting into small fields... "small fish are sweet"
  22. sigh, horse betting pool$ are driven by a pool of heterogeneous punters! sites like these are are heterogenous as well! Both the above can be good and bad for one's mental, physical, spiritual and economic health! Life has taught me that sometimes you just have to agree to disagree.... otherwise it very much Groundhog day, day, day, day.... sigh
  23. I....
