  1. that makes sense to me re mostly win... though gee! the Place can be the way to 'paying the rent!'! Place, in nz g1's! would be the best for approach for me if I had to be 'paying the rent' via horses betting! Which I am very much not! lol! I'm very happy to attempt I do make a small profit via racing bets! I'm sure that the hourly rate for the time spent achieving that would be way below the minimum wage! what has been fun doing it, is that my partner has enjoyed just watching the races! And picking her choice via what takes her eye suggests!! a big change from her early approach of choosing via names! Usually via a 'thing English Language, art, culture etc..). Amusing to see the larger odds of some of her actual selections that actual place or win! Nowadays, for me! my actual current grind to bet down tho$e house odd$!! tempered by having run a game that took 20%! I so know not to be betting into any larger take outs!! Every now and then there are two horses in a race that *have* to run 1st 2nd! So a Quin can be a lock down option! As I Need to Actually See the Horse! I often don't bet because there will be key horses I don't get to see! often they will go on to beat one that did take my eye! brutal experience has suggested to me if there is a reason to not bet that horse/race! then Don't!!! Very Happy to report that we have actually thought about closing our house tab account for this year, we have already taken at a nice profit and have 125% more in it now to be starting out the xmas/ny racing here in nz! In highsight 'we' didn't take full advantage of the change in tabs offer$ via bonus bets! I have found some interest value to be found in how one can use them! I bet into four different pools with them! au/nz racing! nfl, mlb. allblack$. more and more the nfl and mlb are appealing! A bonus of both those two sports is they are 'filmed' Brilliantly! I love the aesthetic of it's presentation!
  2. did I take it correct when you mentioned the problems with 'high house take out$' that your actual focus was mainly on win and place? you back multi horses per race? (sorry if you have already posted that!)
  3. lol!!! it would be nice to see this thread edited, for the helpful stuff! re having a better chance at winning at the track! ? otherwise.. do i hear the chant of GROUNDHOG DAY! ?
  4. re those at the bottom,... very much a massive change in the ethnic background of 'stable hands' in nz sables this century.. as there has been in the appt and riding ranks... personally! I know of many who have correctly left nz though needing to better themselves! unionism in industry in au has been a important part of better wages over there! I have really admired the bravery of the lots of a then 'young' Waller! Laurie Laxon! and I'm sure at least 100 others who are making a better living. A question I always asked was "how many workers nz racing industry could afford to be paying a mortgage?" i bet that stat has tracked down faster than the sad reality of home ownership for so many nowadays!
  5. And it's thoroughly deserves it.. a Industry full of stupid bourgeois cretins! Amusing to see all the bleating from the likes of you! haha!
  6. I enjoyed the Canterbury carnival way more... not often that happens re the two meetings... I think that was mainly around the M Cup being such a guessing game!
  7. looked fat to my eye! ps.top ride on the winner for me!
  8. (as a guess) what % you recon have a winning record? 1% 2% 3%.... I am totally locked into my approach! 99% on 'how the horse presents, in the BC, in its prelim! around at the start! The major weakness in my approach is that the so often don't show all the horses! or film them in a way that is not helpful... also, I would bet into about 1% of races that I watch! sigh... lol! I would love to spend a day with ya watching you go about your way!
  9. a top ride too....
  10. ONE great KPI I'm sure that was meet!!!!!!! I bet! "We support betting on more than 90,000 domestic and imported thoroughbred, harness and greyhound races each season," What % of the increases in Operating % would be tied into this? lol! how many of these races would make a profit? What it means for me personally (and I brought the subject in a public meeting with JA!! forcefully around "educating the newbees..") is that as the total number of races goes up! my betting has tracked down! Sadly! for me! it has lead to years and years of getting rather frustrated!!! At not being able to actually SEE the Horses before the races!!!!!!! every now and then there will be a meeting where the present well!!! then its back to "a race everyfreckingminute.."!!! Often now! they will jump to a race and half the field have gone to start! or they will show prelims where all you see are arses running into the distance! Often you will not get to see key horses in a race!!!! sigh... Some of the actual images of the actual races are getting Brillant! it seems as if the Director or whoever sets up cameras doesn't have much idea that some punters actually Do want to See what the Horses Look Like!!!! And to be able to watch them from race start to start to see any perceived improvement! << rave done to partly explain why I've negated my actual betting... and with that many others have as well....
  11. the end of whipping, was really brought home to me when ms9yearold was watching a fighting finish on the 52" Tv and jumps up Yelling That rider is HITTING and WHIPPING The Horse!!! Instantly went off watching! Now with the HD Super Slow moe wiz of today! the Flaying of the Whips are very challenge to more and more... A technical question? Spurs! I note some Au riders wearing them.. one who has 'foot in strip' seems to be, whip less and Kick more! In NZ can a rider still wear them?
  12. what I like about the case/leak! court case! national leaked the overpayment!! was it $40 a week?! that lead to them alinating winnie! leading into the loss of govt bench! doh! the smart money was all on winnie to go with greens and lab! Comment from a certain racing 'boy genius' have been as amusing as the case! lol! I bet he wins some part of it!!! How much longer has the case to go? Are any bookmakers offering results on the case???
  13. To this day! into the Lead! Stay there! my fav way to watch my horse bet!
  14. I always found Lance pleasant to deal with back in late 80'90's when I was photographying at nz race tracks! He knew form well! Was keen to know what I thought of certain CD horses to watch out for! I found he was brilliant at commenting what couldn't win in a race! By chance I was around when he first was courting a young Bridgette! One can't help but be impressed by what his family have done in racing! parlayed into a lot more as well!!!
  15. You could be right! for what it's worth! 99% of my betting doesn't happen to I get to see the horse on the day! I'm pondering around the idea with BM back in the country! he might be able to work some magic with said horse!
  16. I though Felaar looked like it was having a quite run! ps. lol Newmarket! I see you don't believe in the old dictum "don't badmouth a horse because of its owner"
  17. what was the entrance charge? perhaps punters are not impressed with the lack of Stand etc...
  18. All is well! Whinny has finally found the missing link in the chain to success! Slightly used! but well worth having a go with.
  19. I would love to share with the readers a story about person! but if I do I'm sure he would just future lock in a bias he has against this certain rider! Oatham is great example of why the hell would you play NZ racing! presents with a big front! but very little back end to him! 'Just another parasite on the rump of racing'!
  20. It will be interesting when the academics start processing reports like 'sunset industry! the role propaganda played in its decline'. or perhaps 'the rich breeders got the tax brakes, those at the coalface licked paint off the stable walls'. It's been amusing to watch how various key sub editors now wet their pants by championing copy that is critical of the industry, at a guess I was say 50% of articles loaded onto the Stuff site are of the negative and critical kind! Simple put! the Industry is getting what it deserves!! You would have to be a mug to bet into just about all their betting pools with their rip off take outs!
  21. other than yesterday, no winner has come out of that race since 2008
  22. i use to run racing quizzes... (on ...cafe) under: Abit Roughhouse, they were quite popular... change of ownership there (LM) lead me to stop! in protest... also, on facebook: Photo quizzes under Asite Quizman, again stopped.. in protest... ..am currently looking for Don Quotie!!! ?
  23. 6.400,000 people v nz 4.500.000 gdp 406,000,000,000 v nz 205,000,000,000 hence, au working class has a lot more disposable income than the nz one does...
  24. wow! not to sure how you can claim that... I could flood the site with a mountain of academic research showing you claim is wrong... eg https://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/publications-resources/monitoring/household-incomes/ Max Rashbrooke has written widely on the topic... Stats NZ has a ton of stats negating your claim... B Easton Vic uni has covered the topic in depth.. CTU's Bill Rosenberg covers it in By Bill Rosenberg A new study, “Shrinking portions to low and middle-income earners: Inequality in Wages and Self-Employment 1998-2015” shows rising inequality in the hourly rates of gross earnings (before tax and benefits) among both wage and salary earners and the self-employed over the period 1998-201 I've tried to post some graphs without luck.. And on top of all that the Tab has over the years spent a massive amount of time propagating bet types that have massive 'betting take outs'.. eg Quin 25% etc.. leading to less and less churn... sigh...
  25. from the link provided : "I asked the CEO of NZ Greyhound Racing what this change was all about. He refused to comment for commercial sensitivity reasons." Yeah Right!
