IMO it will probably show the Thoroughbred people how things should be done and when they hit rock bottom they will try to get back in.

It seems to me that "the Weasel" is closely related to Dafthorse from the old site

I see no benefit in that. He faces minimal risk buying the horses on favourable terms from NZB and I would say nothing is paid by him until the horses are syndicated and money paid. As to the stakes I would say it is more important to look at how those races are funded. In your isolated example of the Kelt that race was funded by nomination fees paid by owners and by NZTR in terms of a stake contribution. That stake contribution was far in excess of the revenue earned from the commission on betting. That is the case for all "higher end stakes" races in this country. In effect the higher end stakes are subsided by the lower end stakes races. That pitiful $400k would be far lower if it was based on the revenue earned by that race. Ellis targets these races (Derby etc) and sells his syndicates on this basis (and other spurious claims) and therefore is relying on this subsidy continuing at the detriment of the majority of stakeholders. Your statement that racing all over the world run these sort of these run of mill races to cater for these lesser achievers makes no sense - of course they do - without these races you don't have the production line for the higher graded races - which was my point. I won't bother to offer the greatest of respect nonsense - clearly you didn't mean it - and the reverse applies.

So (and apologies if this has been raised before) but down at the local TAB they tell me that a portion of the sport betting options are only available on-line. Story of a big crowd watching the Sevens at the TAB checking on their phones re odds and options wandering over to the terminal and not being able to take the bet they wanted. So they don't bet fullstop. Next move - say that agencies are doing the turnover they should and close them down.

OK I'm deluded. Written the same thing many times but to summarise the only benefit is to NZB, Te Akau and some of the big studs (who don't need it given their huge export business). To race these high priced horses in NZ means that the top end stakes have to be increased, usually at the expense of lower "graded" races where the run of the mill horses participate which the industry needs for these top horses to participate. It's killing the industry and of course many of its participants. On the other hand if you believe in the fairytale that stakes are going to double next year then may be it is you who is deluded.

Absolute rubbish Weasel. You're true to your non de plume
-
If the gaming duty is reduced and the "industry" funnels that directly and totally into increased stakes it will only exacerbate the problem. Need to make betting on horses attractive to punters to create long term revenue increases.

Yip just trying to justify a totally disastrous transactiion. All the money from the sale of their land is gone. Nothing to show for it. A total clown
-
Yip they keep on saying the same lie over and over again and expect people to believe it. And despite all the evidence to the contrary some do!

1. They did a google search and that was came up. Nothing to do with any bias against the racing industry. 2. He was a business services partner at KPMG. He would have been on the lowest charge out rate for a partner and therefore profit share. 3. No one said he would be a pauper as you so quaintly put it. Yet from what I know/have heard about him you have greatly overestimated his earning potential. 4. Like most people he has skeletons in his closet - one of which is widely known and should have resulted in him being pushed - but did not.
-
Plus he was heavily involved in racing administration - president of the WRC, on the RACE board, involved in NZTBA and as mentioned before on the Members Council of the NZTR - hardly equivalent to being a member of the local rugby club. If the NZTR was as interested in integrity as it proclaims itself to be he would be suspended from the Council. Rather the chair of that Council will likely do everything possible to diminish his actions because he is "one of the boys!".
-
I very much doubt that
-
I did not say or even indicate that I was just pointing out that he hadn't been a partner at KPMG for some time (and as such it could be construed as mischievous for the article to mention it. But he was clearly not dragging in what he was at KPMG as a "sole practitioner" and his lifestyle would have remained pretty much the same IMO.

Hasn't been for at least 15 years at a guess

If John Allen really believes that the TAB site is working well he should post some comparative turnover figures. I'm not a big punter - I used to say that I used to bet often - but one thing I liked to do is have a few bets before work and then when I came home (usually after the domestic gallops had finished for the day) I liked to review the results, with particular attention to my bets but also the breeding details of the winners. Now I can't do that without "navigation" around the site. It's a dog.

Switched over to watch a race from Caulfield. Had to wait till the race from Esperance Bay finished and then I could watch the RECORDED race from Caulfield. This mob is priceless

What's worse IMO is that the rest of racing and in particular CD racing and the Wgtn Cup meeting have been brought forward to accommodate these races and the NZB sales. About the only good thing that Wayne Guppy and the WRC/Race has done is complain about this.

Of course he is a member of the Member's Council

This is the reason our Racing Industry is Failing.
Mark D replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
With leaders like this how could the industry not fail? -
The "next to go" Tab is on the blink again. Times of the races to go are wrong. Think it happens when a meeting gets delayed like Otago today. You can only get so much right with $50m.
-
He has descended into Trumpian like bullshitting.

I thought I would check out if there bank deposits had improved (non credit/debit card). Seems they have for ANZ and ASB account holders which I am not so I'll stick to walking down to the TAB. If I get caught short and can't do so they are the ones who lose out.

Race 1. I did exaggerate but he did whip the horse a long way out (which I thought was a no no) and also in the straight when it was well beaten
