Interesting. If your own ratings had Ohoka Matty clearly on top then they are working for you. It's often not easy to determine what stronger fields are when they are all non winners. I've backed O.M several times in what I considered fairly ordinary races only to see him beaten again despite Blair Orange rating it perfectly. I don't think Tabitha Franco is a very strong mare. It took 16 races to finally win a race. She did so from the 12 draw beating Ohoka Matty who had drawn 3. I've seen O.M beaten too many times after having every chance for Blair driving which is why I wasn't optimistic yesterday. Don't know a lot about J Alford but the rodeo act put on with both attempts at starting on Friday with her in the bike didn't exactly inspire confidence. What surprised me was the money that came for it and the dominance of the victory. Basically ran the Opposition into the ground and still plenty left at the finish. I hadn't seen any signs of that type of victory with the horse previously. You're correct on Ford Rule's driver. Put her on either of the other two and we would have had a different winner. Some drivers seem to try hard to drive pretty and they end up finding trouble at the time they should be being put into the race and then it's all she wrote.

My best for the day was Ford Rule so was pleased with that result. Impressed with the driving ability and style of Sarah O'Reilly who's trade mark seems to be flashing home late down the outside of the track which she did in the first on Ideal Invasion. Most puzzling result of the day for me was Ohoka Matty on race 5. I've backed this horse until I started looking like it. I thought it was just a runners chance yesterday. Started wondering WTF was going on when a tidal wave of money came for it. Straight to the front, dominated them and ran the field into the ground. Where has that version of Ohoka Matty been when Blair Orange has driven it from the front only to be easily run over?

I tipped the horse out strongly for the second day at Blenheim after an unlucky run on the first day which followed a superb second at Rangiora. Third was the best he could do but then won his next three starts. Yesterdays race was completely set up by Linton Shard for the winner to come from the first two, neither of which I backed. The back runners had no hope so credit to the winner. Di Caprio ran on best of the back runners but never threatened. Not sure what happened with Feel The Money but on the face of it was very disappointing. Turn the page on that result. Must admit, Gavin Smith is one of my top three least favourite drivers. Gets beaten so often when I expect him to win and farks up my bet when I don't take him more than most. Not a fan of Scott Phelan and Jonny Cox either for exactly the same reasons. They are my spoilers. No question on their driving ability but other aspects are not so well received by this punter.

Love the races at Reefton, especially the trots but always feel frustrated year after year by the finish line angle on Trackside. It's incredibly deceptive. Surely, something can be done about this? There are so many unknowns in the game that get resolved at the end of a race but at Reefton, it's often far from resolved. This in my opinion detracts from the event. I want to enjoy the moment, not start the questioning process all over again. We can add on some for outside runners but even that can be no real guide. The last race yesterday was a classic example of an exciting finish being turned into a virtual debacle. Credit where it's due, Mark Mac nailed the first two but obviously his box is on a much more reliable and relevant position to the finish line. When they hit the line it appeared the grey Overzealous on the fence had won it yet that runner was only fourth. When they showed the slow motion low down replay, Sunny Glenis definitely had her nose in front on the line so I was genuinely surprised to see she had only run second. In the days of radio commentaries only, it didn't matter that much where the camera angle was on the line but things have moved on. Would be really helpful if they could line the camera angle up from the callers box. https://harness.hrnz.co.nz/gws/ws/r/infohorsews/wsd06x?Arg=hrnzg-Ptype&Arg=RaceVideo&Arg=hrnzg-RacehdrID&Arg=261797

Absolutely right Newmarket. Looked like he was going to faint halfway down the straight then picked himself up and had the audacity to go again. If ever there was a horse that deserved to win a race it was Surprise Trooper and that race.

Found you online you brave wee thing. I appreciate the hormone treatment you are experiencing must be almost complete now so when do you have the full change from M to F procedure? Best of luck with it sweetie x

without thinking of this race. Was incredible to watch. Shame I can't find a replay. 28 years ago FFS. I not only remember the sire Charlie Wood for his deeds but even his dam, Lucky Wood who I backed both times in 50 cent doubles when she won in 1969. Life, doesn't it go by in a blink. Invercargill Trots today- Beats Auckland any day!!
Joe Kidd replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Congratulations. You've just won the "Prize wanker of the year award" Could fill the town hall with what you don't know. The cartoon dog has allowed bias and vested interest to destroy what was once a fantastic website. I joined up shortly after Dave and Ange set it up. Unfortunately, after a few lead changes, the cartoon dog and the narcissist got hold of it and turned it into the stinking rat infested latrine it is now. I was warned for contributing to a thread that was censored in a manner Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Un would have been impressed with. That of course related to the activities of the then farcically protected species of the integrity unit Ross Neal who had an affair with Lyn O'Connell who very sadly passed away. It was a huge story in the industry. The cartoon dog lost any credibility he may ever have had. I won't be threatened by anyone especially some piss ant who is the quintessential inadequate man. He also despised harness racing and the contributors on that side of things. He displayed a rare contempt following the narcissists lead and routinely threatened their membership. Many good folk left in droves. Now BOAY has arrived he has seen the error of his ways and tried to claw back all the lost ground but you can't unscramble a scrambled egg. My, how that worm has now turned. Fact is, if BOAY had not been created, he would still be farcically trying to throw his weight around. Oh well, at least he has fartswaywaytoomuch to lick his arse and a passive aggressive Pollyanna like you to do help disrupt the flow of good communication here. -

Some fascinating AS results yesterday with a few coincidences and common denominators. 1) The boss was absent. 2) Tim Williams was the driver on all AS hot pots that were rolled. 3) All horses beaten were the sole AS runner in the race. Letterkenny Boy at $1.15 when I last looked was wiped out with Tim in the bike. Well driven to get the 1x1 only to have Colin Lee and Bigandme lose the plot and wipe out the raging hot fav. Stood down until 1 satisfactory trial. The backers of L B would be well impressed with that "penalty". Kings Landing at yours for theirs was driven upside down and rolled. A false fav in my opinion, Funatthebeach could only manage third in the Southland Cup. Cheerful at 1.30 was driven upside down when Tim seemingly thought he was driving Lyell Creek with the inevitable outcome. Will be the only time Swizz Miss ever finishes ahead of Cheerful again. To my eyes, 4 AS defeats from 4 would have been at 1000-1 yesterday.
-
I'm almost certain you're right DB.
-
Fine win Globe. It's also fantastic that the AS don't have every weight division in the bag. I look forward very much to future clashes. Having said that, it's my opinion that if your boy went to war with KL and beat him, you have the next David Moss
-
At some point, perhaps you will realize that "the softest of trips" is exactly what Kings Landing didn't need but based on your usual Pollyanna logic, I won't hold my breath.
-
I'm sure Tim Williams comes from a good family etc but I wasn't questioning his pedigree Majestic Man is a superb horse who can sprint and stay but in my opinion, the only way he can ever beat Kings Landing is if he can lead that horse like he did yesterday. K.L has an enormous motor and just keeps going when his opposition have run their race. As a result, that's exactly how you drive him. Control the race from the top or parked and then it's thanks for coming. To do otherwise as Tim did yesterday was just wrong on every level. MP or Nat would have been on to it big time and popped straight off the moment MM took the lead off him. Instead, Tim decided to drive KL pretty for the rest of the race which fell right into the hands of MM. A rookie error in my opinion that highlighted the AS are only human when they don't have multiple runners in the same race assisting each other to control said race. Tim has had things laid out on a platter by the AS in a way other young drivers could only fantasize about. He was average early on but getting to drive superior horses under the watchful and helpful eyes of MP and NM was always going to see him thrive which it did. He not only has considerable knowledge now but he also has that all important confidence. Let's be honest, being an important part of a team that plays helpful musical chairs on the best horses in big money races has also been a gift for him that keeps giving. Time will always be the best judge on a horse but I'm certain the future victories of Kings Landing and the way they are achieved will highlight what a pigs ear Tim made of the job yesterday. Interestingly, I felt he also got it badly wrong with Cheerful yesterday who like KL, should also have been a virtual past the post prospect but Tim found a way to see her beaten as well. Kings Landing needed a never say die drive. Cheerful didn't. When she beat Sunnys Little Jestic last week with Samantha in the bike, it was clear that Sunnys Little Jestic would derive great benefit from the first up run after a spell. Having Brent Mangos down for the drive put it up in lights who would be leading. You also had the very good Majestic Chevron ready to stand up. Tim drove Cheerful exactly like it was Kings Landing and KL like it was Cheerful. Race was set up for a Martina Hingis to have the last say. Gavin Smith owes Tim Williams a huge thank you. Mango was never going to hand up easily. Tim drove Cheerful in a one dimensional manner when something other than that was required. I put both surprise defeats yesterday down to him. I'm certain he will bounce back and carry on his winning ways. He's a fine young driver who just happened to get it badly wrong yesterday without that all important assistance from helpful team mates.
-
You wouldn't know if your arse was on fire, Best you remove the full blinkers. Races are invariably won and lost well before the home straight. Kings Landing lost the race when Williams handed up and then refused to retake the lead or at least control the race from parked. He will NEVER do that again. If you're driving a magnificent trotter that is a truly wonderful stayer, you don't gift your rival the race by allowing him to negate your biggest weapon.
-
Magnificent victory by Majestic Man and expertly driven by Brad Williamson who I've previously critiqued for an indecisive drive. Credit where it's due, he's been in excellent form since the drive in question. Well done Globe. You should be stoked. I believe the only way MM could beat Kings Landing today was if that horse galloped away from the pole or Tim Williams did something ridiculous like hand up to his main rival. Why is that ridiculous? Because Kings Landing is a magnificent stayer who seems to have no bottom. Why then would you allow your main rival to negate your biggest and best weapon and set it up for a sprint home? Madness. If he had no option to hand up, he should have come straight off and retook the lead or at least controlled the race from the parked spot. He had ample opportunity to do so. Today's race proved three things to me. Majestic Man is a beauty but we already knew that. Secondly, don't send in a boy to do a mans job and thirdly, having a stablemate to assist you control the race as per AS usual MO is extremely helpful. Will be interesting to see if Williams retains the drive in future and if he does, don't expect him to ever hand up again.

I see On Show won the second at Trentham today. Can recall at least two Show horses trained in the Hastings area in the 1970's that were handy enough performers. On Show and No Show are two that come to mind but think the trainer had one or two more. Is there any connection between today's On Show with the previous On Show etc ?

You're probably correct. We all know that a slushy track can be a big leveler with the brilliant horses most disadvantaged. As stupid as they can be, the TAB know only too well that many big punters especially put their cue back in the rack once the rain impacts on the track. With their no bet cancellation policy, you could have big $$ on a hot pot that may well despise a slushy track. In most other contracts you'd have a case for a refund as you took the wager in good faith based on the TAB's totally false and misleading weather and track conditions. I hope the rain clears up but it's been raining solid in our area for several hours now. Our lawn has some flooding. Impressive for FINE weather
-
On the TAB website they have weather and track conditions for tonight's big Derby meeting at the Park as FINE and FAST...really? So pissing down for the last few hours is regarded by the TAB as FINE and despite all the rain, the track is FAST. Nice. No problem. Track conditions have never tripped up horses in the past, especially top horses in big money races Unsure if they are lazy, deceptive or incompetent. Perhaps all three. Come on TAB. Your site is bad enough without bullshitting people. Was tempted to go tonight but the prospect of the caller wanking on about THE WIZARD, THE ICEMAN, THE MAGIC MAN and of course THE CHIEF would have resulted in me throwing one of my grandson's soiled nappies and the callers box. I'd also have to throw one at nauseating Mick Guerin the moment he started pouting and licking MP's bum. Safer for all concerned if I stay home and watch the races on the tele
-
I'm a tad surprised you guys don't know who Greg is. This should eliminate any confusion.
-
Didn't want to comment until I'd watched the race. I've seen much worse in terms of commitment to win a race and nothing be said. I watched a WA race a few days ago. Horse was deservedly at just over yours for theirs after a little bit of the blows and driven by champion WA driver Chris Lewis. Sitting three back on the outside after doing zero work. Horse looked to be doing handstands but Lewis didn't move. Train started going from the back and still Lewis didn't move. It paused two lengths off him for several strides. Lewis fully aware what was happening but still didn't move. By the time the train had passed him, he had zero hope of winning. Horse stormed home to finish just off them full of running. Farcical. Made up panels in the last 300. As clear a case of a driver deliberately not giving a horse the chance of obtaining best possible placing you will see. Nothing said. Turn the page. It's their EFTPOS card and they use it when and how it suits them. For what it's worth, I don't think there was anything dubious with Lukyanova here. To my eye, horse looked less than happy twice in the straight and Marshall looked to be holding it together more than anything else. Give the driver the benefit of the doubt but in saying that, I've seen him be very kind to a horse one week when no real money came for it only to drive it to win like his gonads depended on it the following week when the money coincidentally did come for it. Does leave you feeling a tad disillusioned at times, especially when the stipes can't or won't see what even blind Freddy can see. Anyone who thinks they have your back is optimistic at best, deluded at worst. All we want is consistency.
-
Good luck with MM Globe. I feel you may need it Never a good idea to talk about "certainties" especially with trotters but an All Stars double with the trotters looks a formality to my eye. Could be a treble with Funatthebeach looking a big hope in the Southland Cup. I'd also label Letterkenny Boy as well but that race is only worth 10k Cheerful was impressive last week despite the boss being away and this race was a genuine target so we all know what that equates to. As I've stated previously, I sincerely believe that Kings Landing is the best trotter we've seen since I Can Doosit. Yes, what I'm saying is he will be better than Stent and Monbet etc. Trots beautifully, has a ton of speed and can work more than the others and still leave them standing when most are reading E on the tank. That makes him exactly the sort of horse that will dominate races such as the Rowe Cup, Dominion and Inter Dominion Final etc and he's only 4 FFS. This is a very good field with exciting prospects MM, Valloria and Over The Love so I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds. I don't agree with Brodie on this race not being a good betting race. Time will tell but it's the race of the week for me but I am bias. I love the trotters. Easton Light, Nigel Craig and Petite Evander cemented my admiration and adoration for the squaregaiters. What I'm not looking forward to is the AS dominating with trotters as well as everything else but I've already expressed why I'm not excited about that prospect. I'm sure that by the the time we are eating our Sunday dinner, the divide in NZ harness racing will be a little wider. Those who believe the AS operation is to be admired ONLY, and those that believe their magnificent and dominating record in almost every big money race is not good for our sport. Sweet On Me is the formality win for the week in the Delightful Lady Classic. She's the next Adore Me and will win by a cricket pitch. Smooth Deal has the Cardigan Bay stakes in the back pocket. Virgil will likely run the quinella. The biggest shock of the week will be if the AS don't run 1, 2 and 3 in the Derby scooping all the cream....again.

30 HOURS TO THE BIGGEST COCK UP BY TAB
Joe Kidd replied to TIME FOR CHANGE's topic in Galloping Chat
I checked out the marvelous new TAB site yesterday and felt fifty eight thousand dollars seemed a high price to have paid for it. I lined up a bet only to find they closed the race two minutes before it started. When I did get on for another race the dividends were totally out of whack. Took forever to declare dividends and pay out etc etc. When they crossed the finishing line, Trackside often put up the wrong horses or just put up photo despite things being clear cut. These are all fundamentals that don't exactly build confidence in the operation. I was interested in a race from Tokyo, Horses name was Mr O Net. Fixed odds of 1.38. Wins easily and the dividend paid out on the tote was a remarkable $12.50. -
Nothing passive aggressive about the way I communicate. I hit right between the eyes with no ambiguity. Clearly, it is not me who fails to understand what passive aggressive is. My least favourite style of communication but coincidentally. the very style piss ants routinely reach for. If the cap fits.....
-
Your blinkers and blatant bias prevent you from seeing reality. All you do on this site is bait solid contributors with passive aggressive bullshit. Seems to me you are a plant from the wimp brains at the oxidation pond on a quest to disrupt the flow of relevant discussions and turn them into conflict. We all experienced that occurrence on a regular basis at the sewer which is why most of us moved here. Now a piss ant like you wants to turn this very cool site into oxidation pond number 2. I'm sure fartwaytoomuch is on standby for you to give each other today's rimming. Knob Goblins.
