  1. Well it is the middle of Winter. you can't expect the Spring Stars to be racing this early. so with the lousy weather there in Winter no wonder the fields are small and no one watching/betting ? you are being impatient. There was FIRST CLASS Auckland racing in the Autumn for several weeks , with many highlights. It's somewhat ironic that you want them QUALITY horse people to race for Peanuts , while you want to invest thousands as a bet but can't . The irony is quite funny. (If they go to Queensland like the Best NZ trainer ever did, Mark Purdon . The kiwis could of been winning Group 1's. Mark still winning some while near retired. what a legend. A nice 3rd for his own horse he part owns in the Interdominion trot Final too. and Congrats to the Whites from Canterbury running 2nd with BET N WIN. Fine horse people who 'Deservedly' earn a quid by being Great Horsepeople. Yeah get HRNZ to pay Auckland Trainer peanuts then if you want ?? they are useless . Tony Herlihy, Barry Purdon , Ray Green , Butchers . They only win Miracle Mile s, Interdominions New Zealand Cups Auckland Cups, Barry even winning the New Slot race at Addington (as well as the Cambridge one last year with Merlin) PAY THEM PEANUTS . they're NOT WORTH shit. They have Only been preparing World Class Pacers for decades ???? give the stakemoney to owner trainer at Nelson or Westport that prepares a horse that can't break 2 minutes. What a great thing that would be to happen . Useless bloody HRNZ getting it ALL wrong. Wrong people getting the prizemoney πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Ž what a cock up NZ is lol. πŸ˜‹
  2. Well fair enough Brodster . It is good you are looking at the forward picture. and current problems . But are you looking for a solution ? Your thread here says 'Should they Race ??" as the headline. If they don't race we have No harness racing. How does that help anyone ? I'll miss seeing those fine horses and people . I saw it happen QLD when they closed the Gold Coast trotting club. since 2010 nothing there. It's sad. Doomed and Nowornever and yourself constantly bag the Waikato /Auckland trotting as a product because you think you can't bet on it in it's current form. Betting companies Still DO take take bets. But you blokes want the HRNZ to put up race fields that suit YOUR needs for a punt. (one bloke here said he wanted 18 horse standing starts ?πŸ˜‚ something from prehistoric times. he's a dinosaur mate πŸ˜‰) , They are running races to the Participants needs these days. But you totally forget about the needs of the participants. Which is for HRNZ to put races on for them . There's not just owners trainers and drivers depending on this , but heaps of stable hands, all the back up services where people make a living, hundreds of people making some money . and you say 'Should they Race?' . and then pick on HRNZ for poor performance?. surely if they didn't race like you are suggesting, that's When they (HRNZ and ATC) would Have Failed ???? I know you blokes are a fair judge of racing. for example NowOrNever tipped 3 out of 3 to me in Brisbane ( which tallied 77-1 multi ) and even labelled the Trot Grand Final Quinella a month before the event was run. my tip only 4th. So this tells me 2 things. Harness racing is consistantly GOOD , as in horses and trainers and even drivers Run Fairly 'True to Form'. an excellent thing. and are good to bet on if you're having a bet, because you get a Good run for your dollar consistently and seems way better than Gallops , (golf or tennis) in my opinion. Should they race ? of course they should race. Pop a $50 on (like I do ) to help em' out if you're worried about turnover so much then you guys . Try and help a bit. what do you want?? . horses eating grain at home in the stable or something?. park the sulky' in the paddock to rust.
  3. 100% correct. I hate tennis. a poor sport where millionaire brats and bratesses whack a ball over the net. Some Russian with a name you can't even pronounce will probably win the ladies at the end. and Some people actually Bet on it . Its not an 'Appealling ' betting product at all. BUT do WE wish them NOT to Have it ? no. We have Beautiful Horses (Of WORLD Class quality) and Fantastic Horsemen (and women) Competing at Auckland each and every week. But they're NOT APPEALLING to you guys . Just an Insult to the fine fine NZ harness racing industry. Barry Purdon near the BEST in the WORLD at his craft , but not appealing for South Islander to bet on . Insulting to the sport you blokes . Lost your money on something probably and just all bitter as chips with vinegar on. πŸ˜†
  4. He's Victoria race for quite low prizemoney now. The stakes are being slashed constantly. There Big race of the year (to equal the NZ Cup ) is the Hunter Cup. Swayzee got $142,000 defeating Leap To Fame who got $37,000 2nd. That's just a disgrace for the best horse in the world. In nearly our Biggest race. We race for about a half of the amount of your NZ races here in QLD ( except for the Constellations 4 week that just finished) we have 11 months of standard everyday 'boring' stuff now. which is annoying. But good for the participants. Perhaps you race for too Much in one meeting ??? 152 k at Auckland on Friday seems a lot for a Mid Winter meeting ? Perhaps you should 'cut it in half' to meet the 'Turnover' needs some of you are desperately seeking. Yes I just hate to think a Sport should collapse because of poor betting. NO other sport does . cricket still continues with no crowd and no Indian bookmakers lolπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‹
  5. Not a huge amount of difference week to week. This week AucklanD race for 152 k in total and Addington race for $205 k total with 2 more races on. seems fair ? I'm sorry you feel that way. I did make a living for quite some time from the Industry in both NZ then Aus. and feel passionate about it. Have a 'little bit' of knowledge how it works . But maybe the Gravestone is already being carved in NZ , buried like Cardigan Bay under a carpark. People have given up in New Zealand because of the VERY topic of This thread that Brodie made. OF COURSE they should race. is the answer. I think it's terrible for the surviving WORLD CLASS participants the North Island has, if they don't. Couldn't give a Rat's arse about peoples bets TBH. Brodie should go talk to Stockman if he wants to put a bet on , and find out how to do it properly .
  6. The Sport is DEAD as a betting medium. Brodie knows it. He can't get a bet on even as likes big bets only. Victoria HRV is 600,000 dollars in the red. It continues to race for the moment because of Asset value. There is no way the Sport can survive on betting Revenue . It has to survive without 'Betting' That's where you're focused. But not accepting that people don't Bet on the Sport much anymore. Hence all the grizzling. about turnovers and shit like that. Of Course they are LOW these days. The cost of living is too high for people to waste money on horses. BUT harness racing it DOESN"T have to come to a DEAD STOP like you say. Brad Steele and David Brick and other Very FORWARD thinking folk , are introducing Slot races and Concepts each year , that are USER pays. (eventually people will stop grizzling about those ) they were fantastic at Addington last season . and Cambridge. ? that Larry and Arcee Phoenix wins well that was the highlight of the Year really. and we got them both here in Queensland to repeat the dose at the Interdominion too. Which was excellent . Eventually I agree with you the betting will Cease to exist. I don't Agree That a Sport should Cease to Exist because of that . Fight hard fella's !!! keep the sport going.
  7. That could be an answer . If requiring all the horses in one place at the same time for Staffing / broadcasting purposes or whatever. But it's a bit like saying Don't have Play at All. at one golf course. because only 100 people play there. And Only have the Golf course where 200 people are playing. It doesn't mean the 200 are on the better course. They enjoy that course and the 200 (you blokes πŸ˜‚ enjoy your course. Where it's HARDER to WIN , because there's more players. Personally I prefer the 100 person course where you are MORE of a Chance of Winning !!πŸ’°πŸŽˆπŸ†
  8. You people are so mean . counting runners to decide if a meeting should proceed or Not ?? That's just ridiculous . Waikato has 7 races of around 8 horse's this week. HALF of the Runners racing on the night will earn some money for 4th place or better. This is an EXCELLENT thing. It's the middle of Winter . The better horses will be worked up through the Spring to race in November December when all the Big races are on. of course the fields are gunna be smaller Brodster , Mikey and anyone else that DOESN"T realize this . Don't worry about it so much . You never Bet in the Northern ones anyway. So why be so Bloody mean about em all the time. the same old same old same old rubbish and slandering of the racing, is just ruining the forums. why be so mean all the time. Addington had about 5 races with 7 or 8 runners last week too. You're not grizzling about that?? . you guys are just completely and totally biased is half the problem. The prize money is tallied for the season by PROFESSIONALS at HRNZ. Trying to get all the owners a quid. We do it better in Queensland by running SMALLER fields so that more OWNERS get a RETURN on their investments . Common sense to keep them involved in the sport. Just Don't watch the meetings then ?? . Wait till Sunday then when all your classy low rating runners are racing in the South for your entertainment in those BIG fields where the owners are making a Loss. . And let these Brilliant Horsemen and Women at Waikato and Auckland that are racing , get on with making their Living . What?? so All the owners, All the track staff everywhere, Catering people , camera people HUNDREDS of PEOPLE , should just have the WINTER off because you want 10 starters in a Race instead of 5 -6 or 7 they all earn the same money no matter how many are racing. Horses still pay the some divvies and collect prizemoney. and you guys don't bet on them anyway ?? or race any horses at al? l , so you're all just being Meaner than mean about good racing people that are TRYING to MAKE A LIVING out of the Sport. Blame Brad Steele ? hahahahahaha πŸ˜… he's the one actually trying to keep it going for you people that don't want them to race anymore. πŸ˜‚ 🀣. what a joke. anyway he gets paid (hopefully a million per year for trying to help the industry) and any People like mean ones here , that don't want them Harness racing anymore, can just suck it up.πŸ€ͺ
  9. Vinnie was fabulous . He drove like a maniac. was eternally happy with his horses ( but not with women sadly) and should of won that Auckland race. Poppy Shot 4 lengths clear 400m out and spent all his pennies. Had the race well won if he didn't think he could just win it by 6 lengths lol. he was pretty cranky about that Gammalite win. Leap To Fame and Lazarus race similar ? just too strong. You would of seen Lazarus gate speed. Was just normal ? but just sit outside them and win anyway. Dixon has well over 5000 race wins and no every inch of Albion , and driving the best horse in the world. No way could little Rakero Rebel hold him in with a 25 year old driver not as familiar with his horse and the track. poor bugger got left parked out for the trip too. she wasn't a hope anyway. What the race needed was some TEAM driving. Sanderson needed to attack before they were a lap out with Sure Thing Captain , and give the Stablemate Speak The Truth the last shot from the trail. A Small problem is that Larry is Full bore at the half mile every race anyway. and no-one can get near him from the front let alone the back of field πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ Larry Ran 26.5 both the last 2 quarters for a 53 second last half mile. you can't even win from the trailing position with leader going that fast. πŸ˜… NZ Cup looks to be Aussie bound again .
  10. oh ok. thought you had him mixed up with young Jack for a minute. lol. Anyway Grant has barged off the fence in Both the heats of the Interdominon as well as this Grand Final. something that has been seen by LEAP TO FAME a few times. I think Grant is getting more 'Leeway' than other drivers get doing this early in the race. Luke McCarthy got KING of SWING off the one draw, in the Group 1 Blacks A Fake run this week 4 years ago, only to get the chop and Gallop fiercely to the back (courtesy of Anthony Butt) who got suspended. The horse leaving the fence causes issues. Nothing Herbie would do would keep Larry on the the fence??? . He was coming out No matter What Mr Galah. bloody oath you'd be grabbing up if you were Herbertson, with Larry coming out under your horse lol. Herbie did good to stay in the running line after, rather than get planted 3 deep. you just can't see it that way. Funny BOAY story is when Gammalite won at Auckland the horse bulldozed inwards after the start ( the complete opposite of Larry last night ) and Clarke cleaned up John Noble's horse on the second row into a fierce gallop. El Regale. This gained Gammalite the trail behind Poppy (Popular Alm) and the win at the Auckland Interdominion. driver got a suspension to spend some time holidaying with the winnings πŸ’° . John Noble left swearing for a week πŸ˜…
  11. Not Herbertson. It is the young driver Jack Chappell on Tims A Trooper who is on the Dixon payroll . so you got that bit wrong. Jack drew second row and could of been used to help Larry get off the inside , but wasn't needed. Rakero Rebel should of been in the Mares race Group 1 Golden Girl. This race was way out of her depth. You think Herbertson should try and hold Leap to Fame in ? lol πŸ˜‚ No Point knocking your horse around like that πŸ˜… saying the New Young Driver Champion of Australasia is poor tactically not great thing to do , but go for your life I spose. there's not much you can do to beat 'Larry the Powerhouse.
  12. Well I agree with most of what you say. Those races were TOO LONG at the 2 miles . The Aussie horses aren't good at it. never race it. Also LEAP TO FAME can come from anywhere, over any distance, doing any work. (Cambridge race prime example) and Merlin, and Republican Party, and Don't Stop Dreaming and Chase a Dream Didn't bother even turning up for New Zealand to exploit that fact. the very horses that could pressure him. Pinseeker ??? nah 🀣 So the race was boring and the 3 horses along the trailing positions behind Leap To Fame picked up tens of thousands of dollars in place money without having to do anything. In the TROT, Bob Butt did the same. Just dropped in to a trailing position behind Arcee Phoenix instead of taking him on. his horse BET N WIN is a 2 mile winner (Rowe Cup) but took the 'easy way out' and let the Aussie dictate and run away. Maybe needed John Dunn driving it ? he has a real dig in the Big races with trotters. So the Interdominion racing went Exactly as Most experts predicted. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it . I thought Gus could win it , But the poor bugger has to come from the back every time, and bloody London To A Brick just got in the road of him and Oscar B, so they lost their chance in the last lap. Gus and OscarB must of made up near 8 lengths on Bet N Win in the last lap, so still good merit in 3rd and 4th. Winner was too good drawn the One Alley. the winning trainer driver Chris Svanosio, and his young stable junior Taylor Youl who you wouldn't know, but she is high up on the Victoria driving table with a stack of wins , are TROTTER specialists , racing mainly them like Williamsons do in NZ.

  17. Great drive by Sanderson πŸ†. RUBIRA Rated perfectly. to win well like that, when you have Luke McCarthy parked on your back. The Grand Master of the harness world Marky Boy (and helper son) WIN the Queensland Derby for New Zealand. Best Queensland horse FATE AWAITS a distant 3rd. Look out 'Marketplace' in November and December. !! RUBIRA might just blast his socks off in the Velocity Slot $1/2 mill then the NZ Derby . someone better tell Regan Todd to start jogging him up now 🀣. none of this hiding out for the Winter if he wants to Win those Big races in the Spring. or Mark will be back and come on over the top of him.
  18. The $150k Queensland Derby is up next. It's Grand Final night in Brisbane. RUBIRA of Mark and Nathan Purdon's drawn the outside barrier so is going to have to be driven well. The Queensland Oaks just raced and Grant Dixon and Nathan Williamson tried to work togeather to run the Quinella , taking the lead with Cool and Classy and the NZer sitting parked. CAPTAIN"S MISTRESS would probably of won it for New Zealand, if Grant gave it the lead over that longer trip. Just a bit tough on her sitting parked after working hard around the field from a second row draw at the start. Instead , Australia's Best horseman LUKE McCarthy out-drove them and roared up the passing lane to take Victory with SOHO AMericano for Michael Stanley.

  20. She's only young mate . and doing ok . a friend of mine gets her to drive his horse at Redcliffe each week and shes won some on it for him. so we love her. Chloe also trains about 10 horses so works very hard. Jett Turnbull turned 18 years old yesterday. is doing fantastic in his second year driving. And Yes, Carter is WORLD quality, and showing it with his great training and driving results in New Zealand, and wouldn't hesitate in a heart beat to put him on my horse. Already a Auckland Cup winner and soon a NZ CUP ??? maybe.? if he can get Republican Party up to it. that would put him on the TOP tier with Marky Boy and that if he can do that .
  21. Go the Tassie !!! πŸ’° bring home the bacon lol. Ranga has Better Eclipse in there too at $3.80 . should go well with Herbie on cloud nine.
  22. Grand Final Night . underway with Carter just missing out by a nose in Race 1. The track is lightning fast , as they ran 1.50.4 for mid class horses. A warm 20 degrees at the end of yet another glorious Brissie Sunny day. Good Luck to All the BOAY Participants in the Final legs of the BOAY Interdominion . First runners coming up soon in the Pacing Consolation Race 3. Hoping James Rattray can win next 2 races fingers crossed .
  23. Congratulations to James Herbertson for Victoria . this years winner of the Australasian Young drivers Championship title.πŸ† Herbertson Finishing 4th in tonight's Final Heat. to take Championship Victory over the local lass Chloe Butler (who won the last heat at Albion Park Race 1 ) Was hoping Carter would win Final leg that for New Zealand as had a couple of bob on it but got done a nose on the line. He led them up in a scintillating 1.50.4 mile so was a good effort. Final Points were James Herbertson (Vic) 111 points, 1st Chloe Butler (QLD) 95 pts 2nd , Jett Turnbull (NSW) 77 pts 3rd. Carter Dalgety 4th on 66 pts , followed by the other 6 contestants
  24. This young bloke going quite well. Only in 2nd season and from a very famous family from Bathurst. Jett Turnbull has won 3 of the series races so going great Guns. here's a paste on him. The 17-year-old is flying the flag for his state in only his second full season of race driving and was successful aboard the Rickie Alchin-trained filly Hunger Strike in heat two of the Championship at Albion Park on Tuesday afternoon. The win brought up 100 wins in 2025 for Turnbull in the prestigious series where he is up against some of the best young drivers in the Southern Hemisphere, headed by last season’s Australian leading driver, Victorian James Herbertson, who currently sits on top the leaderboard after the first round of heats.
  25. If you blokes are having a look tonight at these youngsters race tonight Herbie should nearly win All 3 Heats tonight again.πŸ€”( or some Quinellas with jett turnbull ) The first race tonight (Heat 7 at 7.52 NZ time ) the Bettor's Delight mare WORKS FOR ME has good NSW trainer , who isn't that good a driver, so was getting it beaten. Will improve heaps with James driving it. HEAT 8 is Race 3 tonight . Herbie drives the number one. The trainer Chris Watson is another ex-pat NZer , whose son Damon usually drives the horses. they have 2 in here this race. Chris usual race colours are black with a silver fern too like the All blacks. so a sort of win for NZ if it salutes ! can't work out Why this horse JUST ROLLING AROUND is so short in the market though.?? but might just be because Herbie is driving it . it does have 3 Redcliffe wins I spose. HEAT 9. is race 5. Herbie on the former top Western Australia trainer Michael Brennan's horse SABALA. Ran no-where at Addington in April for Jonny Cox, but was too good here first up. Cake-walk this in . The James Herbertson Treble is 14-1 odds . so might be worth a fiver? to get some week-end money πŸ’°πŸ»
