No they are long gone, even Gold Coast parklands closed 2010 to build the commonwealth games village for last year. Beautiful track that was too. so nothing at the gold coast now , such a shame. Yes we have Marburg for the battlers.
-
340 wins training last season. One for everyday of the year nearly ! fantastic. We can race 5-6 days a week around Brissy though.

I don't know Flagship. but All-stars have 1/4 of the series runners so should negate the vulnerability. Just watched 91' final at Auckland and Mark Hanover and Reba lord did a great job working togeather a lap out and helped Christopher Vance into 2nd as well by good team work. The only aussie in that one got tipped out. lol The aussies won't be helping each other.

How I wish you are Right.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been on Grants back since winter to go across, since Gammalite, I'm ThemightyQuinn and Our Sir Vancelot all taking victory at Auckland. Chester [Colt thirty one] has drawn the car-park night one , and did jump out of his gear recently at Melton out of the gate. Both these things are worrying me greatly

Chances are all 6 of Marks make the final and with help from his Big brother who might sneak one in ,looks like Doomsday for Aus.

Harness Racing NZ - change the stupid whip rule NOW!!!
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
The whip issue is huge at the moment. In galloping circles Michael Walker and Glen Boss have gone for broke lately. Huge fines and ignoring any whip rule altogeather in some big races lately anyway. You are talking HUGE prize-money differences with Prince of Arran a close 2nd in the Melbourne Cup and as Brodie said with Jonny Cox , Michael wouldn't of got 2nd without riding the way he did. Is that fair to connections of the close finishing 3rd horse? beaten by someone deliberately breaking the rules to gain extra placings??. Maybe HRNZ are waiting to see what happens next in the galloping world. whip bans seem a matter of time. -
Well with the second row being Allstars and the NZ cup placegetter as well ,I think they will be right in it at the business end Happy. Mark and Nat second to none, and no way would I back anything against them , in any race, anywhere. BTW... was just watching utube Village Kid in 87' Miracle Mile at Harold Park and you flashed up from last to grab second. !! Happy Sunrise. You could of been a superstar at one stage?? ?
-
And amazingly the following year in the NZ Derby , Master Mood was rank outsider and down the track again as well??? very strong race you put up there of the sires Stakes. The last horse in that race, was the Derby winner !! That was Placid Victor. My mate Frederick a battling 5th in Derby.
-
Beat a good one there I can see in Master Mood as well , who won a Miracle Mile at Harold Park 1986. ! That was a great miracle mile for NZ bred runners with Master Mood, Lightning Blue, Village Kid and Trident (who chief Rangatira mentioned) all finishing in a pack 1st to 4th. Village Kid won the following year.

Wondais Mate !! He won a couple of heats at Auckland 83' Interdominion as well. got tipped out in the final won by me or (Gammalite) Some time later in the 80's I towed a very fast former kiwi named Its Frederick up to Brissy from Melbourne as he was flying and thought he would bolt in on the fast Albion Park races. No such luck unfortunately, with 4th being our lot as Wondai's Mate, the little champion from the bush (peanut farm), ran 1.55 and change. That was unheard of those days as FreeforAllers running 1.57. or 1.58 was the normal go. He was an amazing little horse.
-
The Injury !! Yes, I was there that night in winter 2017 at Albion Park. The only time in his career he had a catch driver.(John and Luke McCarthy were at Menangle in some semi-finals) from memory. And the catch driver was a Kiwi , shock horror! hahaha Mark Jones hit a wheel in a 7 horse field and he hit the deck big time. (the horse more than Mark) just when he was going to go 5 wide and round them up and win by lengths. Very nasty. I thought at the time Mark wasn't used to such a big striding pacer. He is a magnificent animal.

This Heat will be a beauty. The All-Stars have to deal with all being on the second row. You have to feel for JOHN DUNN. All year long whenever you guys have a feature race he is the one who has to figure out how to 'mix-it ' with the All-stars Team tactics as is usually the main threat. His Efforts in the NZ cup and NZ FFA were admirable. In this Interdom Heat he is sitting amongst them on the second row again , once more trying to work a plan out 'amongst the Stars' He must see Stars in his night-mares.? BTW lets bring it on with BLING IT ON. !!!! The kiwi drivers have a lot of 'distance' race driving so are used to giving up the lead. lots of room on the big grass tracks etc. and using good judgement. A lot of speed racing here in Aus. especially Brisbane and Menangle where they head to the Top and want to hold it. Before that there were plenty of 'Open Air' drivers, not wanting to follow a helmet at all , even if parked or 3-wide even. GAMMALITE a great example. Parked more often than not. Pure Steel always 3 -wide.(but that poor bugger had to endure handicaps all the time) Vinny Knight , Jimmy O'sullivan always out and attacking on many horses. Death or glory !! Lightning Blue shoved out 4 wide a lapout in 87' Interdominion at Addington and 100 whip-strikes later,........Glory !!

Hahahha total Karma for Warnie haha

Loved Ritchie, never forget his reaction to the dreaded underarm incident. He was absolutely disgusted and was so close to giving them a spray.[that would of been great] Latest Gabba test just finished yesterday .Pummeled the Pakis this time round. Aus unbeaten for over 30 years at Gabba now. only 13,000 went each day. struggling now because of 20/20.
-
I have to say though on one occasion Flagship, very late in his career at the Gabba 1st Test here in Brissy, in 2004 Glenn McGrath scored 61 against the kiwis coincidently. I had wondered in on my birthday Nov 2004 and was some funny entertainment for sure. Over 100 runs for the last wicket with Gillespie. Kiwis then rolled for 76 in their second Dig. Sorry about that.

Just trying to pop on some all up bets before the draw. My picks Habibi Inta ( trotting 4.02 for 2 miles and 3.00 for mile1/2 last 2 starts) ???? that would beat some of the pacers. and Bling It On , one of the best pacers I have ever seen. Won Victoria Cup recently beating 'Cruz B' and 'Colt 31' easy enough. Even though 9 he has always been good 50+ wins from 88 starts and over 50 of those were Group races for BLING IT ON. Bring It On !!!! 18. Habibi Inta Alexandra Park Race. 1 WINFM 6.00 Potential Return$60.00 10. Bling It On Alexandra Park Race. 1 WINFM 9.00 Potential Return$90.00 Standard Multi (2 legs @ 54.00) Combine all singlesshow legs 2 Legs Odds54.00 Potential Return$540.00

Well it seems as the draw gets near that about a third of the runners are 'PURDON' runners. (bigBar or Mark) , a third are the 'AUSSIES', and a third 'THE REST'. One of those groups doesn't look overly strong. Maybe they will put 1/2 of the runners (from each of these 3 groups) , in each of the 2 Heats.

Gidday Brodie from Queensland, well no doubt the ground work is done by the NZ trainers initially. Many trotters improve with age as they gain confidence and practice. And most likely reason is there is many more races/ tracks to choose from and set your horse for over here making life easier and more suitable for your horse. Plus a lot of the Aussie trotters are crap (compared to NZ ones) This century since the great Pride of Petite in the late 90's being USA bred (but out of a great NZ mare) only one single Aussie bred trotter won the Interdominion. That was the Maori's idol man with 'Sumthingaboutmaori'.
-
The current Interdominion champion TORNADO VALLEY (a former kiwi) not making the trip to Auckland is surprising. He did start over here this month (3rd off 50m) and has won 23 from 30 Australian starts last year and this since being exported. Must be unable to trot right handed properly would be my guess.

Winner Winner!!!. Yes HAPPY SUNRISE it is. Couldn't help but put up a photo as with your posts everywhere, all I could see was this magnificent animal. He came to Brisbane , along with HYPERSTAT from Victoria who had won 20 in a row or something. for $1/4 mil each I believe. everyone was gob-smacked as 1/4mil then, would be like 1 mil now I guess. They both performed moderately with 5-6 wins each over 2 years or so in Brisbane without a big race win, so probably bought to an end those huge purchases. That stable had some luck though later on in 2003, picking up a moderate Tasmanian horse FLASHING RED who had won 15 from 60 starts racing for 3 years in Tassie , then after they bought him, he went on to take 2 New Zealand Cups and an Auckland Cup among other big wins. lucky pick up for sure.
-
Hey that is the first 4 you have picked !!!! Excellent work by you there!! . Have just logged on in Brissy at 10.30 here so missed it.
-
Very close indeed , but no cigar. Ricky in the bike. This bloke does look a little like Inky Lord but unlike him was unable to win the NZ cup at his crack at it against another Ex-pat kiwi in Lightning Blue just before Inky Lord came along. This bloke ended up in Brisbane here for a very high sale price but never reached the Dizzy heights of Lightning Blue and Village Kid.

A quiz for you older kiwi harness racing supporters. Who is this horse? One of your contributors may have a fair idea at least.
