Can't really remember that race, I'm guessing he may of got stirred up behind the mobile like he could do. Real Force had been going good races as I remember and probably deserved it. The first time Peter Jones ever sat behind Sundon was his winning Dominion . Sir Roy McKenzie rang him up to see if he could drive him, he said yes but does Fred know? Sir Roy said he'll tell him, I think Fred got suspended anyway for giving him a quiet one on Cup Day. The Dominion comes and P Jones wondered what he has struck, Sundon grabbed the bit in the prelim and took off and it took all of P Jones's skill to get him back to him(he was actually down to his last resort and just yelled "WHOA"). Around at the start he grabbed the bit again, P Jones headed him towards the outside fence, Sundon was blind to it( all the horsemen here will know what I mean), and clocked himself a real beaut on a concrete post. Sundon from that point walks around like a lamb, lines up like a toff, steps brilliantly to lead after a quarter, waltz's around on two threads of cotton and wins easily. P Jones maintains the clock on the head certainly didn't hurt his chances.

Q6. Sir Castleton, must have them all covered now 😎

Q9 . Sundon's Gift NZ born & raised, only won one race in NZ, but it was a goody, Rowe Cup

Q.4 Stormy Morn Remember when Trevor Thomas trained him at Ces Donald's old place in Belfast

If(haha) Sundon makes the cut, I’ve got an insider story on his Dominion win… but till then, my lips are sealed.

Great work

ps rapt to get in before that greyhound fella, I’d want him on my quiz team 👍.

4. Village Kid ( of course!) …….. 1. Popular Alm

Well I for one LOVE your quizzes Gamma, gets me thinking and quite nostalgic… not bad for an Aussie. I’ll have a crack at some of these. Q 2. Quite Famous Q 3. Thorate Q 5. Westburn Grant Q 6. Yankee Loch Now, back to putting the thinking cap back on for the ‘P’ & ‘V’ horses. What ones did you have a blast behind? Were they ever the same?😎
-
The best bet would be the one running second 😉.

Alright Gammalite, true blue Aussie you are, them three are… 6. Lightning Blue( heard that name somewhere before), best ever son of Lonero to walk this planet. 7 La Coocaracha, have you ever seen a faster 200m down the back straight at Alex Park from a trotter when it won the Rose Cup, awesome! By Safely Kept as well. 8 Lawn Derby, first horse to pace under 2 mins outside of USA. Left his hopples at home as well.

What a great line up! Must make sure the next one I get starts with an ‘L’.

Saw Knight Pistol race at Addington Cup Day one year, where he won. He was a good tough horse.

1. Krug 2. Koala King 3. Knight Pistol

Peter Jones was beautiful to watch in his hey day, sat great in the cart. One of the best never to drive a 1000 winners. At the top of the straight when they went past us , the mare had a good length on him, both Mike Storment and P Jones both driving to their horses strengths, HD just outstayed her. Great race.

👍 reckon you boys have nailed it. Golden Reign still had to go around them all, despite A Butt taking half the field out.

Those trotting annuals were my annual xmaspresent,,still got them, probably a market for them, as one gets older often wonder what to do with them. Same mikeynz. Couldn’t of had a better present for me. Just get them out and reminisce about the good old days, nostalgic.

Final Decision, one of the shining lights that made me get more involved. That’s the year’s before winner running third, left his hopples at home as well. There is a picture in that years , 1975, Trotting Annual, at the mile and a half, of Lunar Chance taking the lead, Micron tailing the field 5 lengths back, and…Final Decision a couple of hundred yards away.Robert Mitchell still thought he was going to win on the home turn he was going that well, just came to the end of it.I think he ran his last mile and a half in around 2.58, great time then, around 4.09 overall. Dereck Heckler, bit of a cowboy trained him, took him to the USA. Phenomenal horse and striking with it. Great time to be a young enthusiast.

2. That would be Elsu, done on both occasions by Just An Excuse

Here we go, great if you have a spare 1 hr 13 mons 45 secs, funny how the memory gets tangled. Bonnie's Chance awesome in both the 81-82 Cups, along with Armalight. Enjoy
-
I remember Bonnie’s Chance had a great run in the Cup, 1 by 1 I think, and Richard Brosnan saying he was thinking about letting Hands Down go around him at the 1/4, not realising HD had missed away and chased the field! Made the right call.
-
Okay, start it rolling. 1 Basil Dean 2 Borana 3 Bonnie’s Chance 4 BAF, Blackie, Natalie’s boyfriend. 5 Bag Limit 6 Baltic Eagle Great list there 👍

I think she was fined $1500 from memory, so a serious offence definitely. At least you know she was trying. I don’t think the whip makes a horse run faster, just keeps them going. On days gone past, I would say P Wolfenden & R Cameron were a couple of the best whip drivers I’ve seen.

Kerryn had a GoPro on her that day, just stepped and never saw another horse. Trackside just couldn’t show from the 250m, Animal Rights activists would have had a field day. I think it would be a close run thing with Jim O’Sullivan’s effort in the 1987 Interdominion Final with My Lightning Blue.
