  1. Totally agree about the iconic&the traditional racemeetings.....I fondly remember attending, with Mum&Dads chillybin, meeting up with the extended family,us kids joining the kids punters club&winning some chocolate,or even better collecting up all the tickets on the ground with the cousins, then waiting for the next newspaper so you could check ALL the results.
  2. Different soils, different climates need different upkeep, there is no "1 size fits all" in regards to track maintenance,or irrigation etc.......
  3. Totally agree.Thank you Tony for speaking up for the little guy.
  4. Different tracks have different soils, for example;there is no way the same rules/maintainance tapping back/filling/rolling at Riverton are also the same rules/guidelines for a clay soiled Awapuni track, So why does it seem that the caretakers are instructed to roll the track so much???
  5. I haven't done the research... but if there's no jump meetings in the South Island(&also maybe in the North), next year or beyond what will happen to the racehorses that have gone around this season,or been earmarked for a jumping career in the future? It appeared the average for the Northern this year was 10 yrs old,who will be rehoming these "Old Boys" they will be too old for the re-educating/show homes(no resale value there) have the animal rights group thought about this? Or maybe the NZRacing" Life after racing" group needs to realise, that due to temperament etc there is no life after racing for alot of horses&becoming a jumper is their last chance of life.
  6. Just tuned in, in time,to see the last couple of races at Woodville, the track looked in bloody good order, how come it handled so much rain this week but it didn't handle 20ml in a week 10 days ago-different Stipes/Track Inspectors or .............??????
  7. On a free draining track with the soil that is in that area (major pine tree/ plant nursery all around it)it was totally disappointing to read that the track was waterlogged........or is this a chance to say Woodville is too wet in the Winter&too dry in the Summer so it is no longer a long term racing proposition considering the Awapuni Synthetic is now in use?
  8. The consistent rain&waterlogged track???🌞What has the weather been like in Woodville for the last 48 hours?
  9. Obviously this is a list of the small fry in a big sea.Who holds the list of the big fish? And where can we find this list?
  10. "Racing wont survive in the CD without a synthetic track at Awapuni"..........the biggest BS I have read for a while.
  11. Back in the day late 1980s early 1990s:I remember many horses backing up&being competitive on all three days of the Riverton Easter Carnival(Saturday,Monday ,Tuesday)I also remember(I think) more than 1 or 2 winning on all 3 days.
  12. Just enquiring for a local fundraising sports club, would there be any interest for tickets to an old Fashioned Presidents Luncheon type of thing,on local trial days or racedays in the Central Districts Area?Soup,Main Meal,Dessert/Pudding $10-$20 dollars per person,Any feedback appreciated.
  13. We need Trackside Radio,I have spent many trips to&from a racemeeting, listening to results/times ,expert opinions on track conditions.Pluswe have to think of the oldies who listen to everyword faithfully while making their $1 EW on EVERY RACE. Even little towns have their own Radio Stations.....how hard can it be to have our own Racing Channel?????
  14. I presume there has also been extensive research in to how the wax based polytrack base will perform with the big NZ frosts&fog&also torrential rain.
  15. Why is this no longer in the monthly NZTR Calendar&if this has already been posted somewhere please redirect me to where I can find this information?
  16. It wouldn't hurt them to come up with a fundraising/charity/keep fit type of thing during the lockdown though would it,or even a genuine non scripted social media update about what they have been up to,after all they do claim they are professional sportspeople, look at all the other sportpeople of NZ(&the rest of the world) that have been able to do stuff for eg; kids tv,at home fitness etc
  17. Back in the day you weren't a good jockey or apprentice unless you could swing up yourself, from what I have seen in the last few years,I think only Opie is able to do it nowadays.
  18. Not as tough as the trackriders&stablestaff waiting for an opportunity to earn their next dollars.Hopefully the raceday jockeys have had a time to reflect on how well paid they do get for the amount of time spent in the saddle or in the stable. Not all of us who love racing are in the 56-60 kilo weight range to be able to become a jockey.
