  1. By my calculations, if you remove the 2 extra FY25 meetings, that represents an increase of 13.3% YOY turnover. Extrapolating from that and applying the same increase to say $400m GBR, assuming margins remain stable, that would mean an annual increase of about $50m GBR. Of course, not all of that is due to the online monopoly. Some has come from CPI, increased marketing etc., but even if it were, it is still only about 1/2 the predicted recapture at this stage.
  2. It's off topic but of course chlorine is toxic. Whatever happened in Havelock North, the people of Rangiora, including the council resisted it to the bitter end. Been good for bottled water and house filtration sales though. And yes, I know you are an industrial chemist.
  3. Pretty sure she did that in the interview. As I said, only those who listen will hear.
  4. So, now post where Becks actually said that, if it's her you are going after, not Garner's interpretation in his intro which she probably didn't even hear.
  5. I think you are completely missing the point.
  6. Some of you just don't listen. She's not on a crusade to ban racing. She's on a crusade to stop that happening. Those with their heads in the sand are the ones exacerbating the likelihood of that. Same route the greyhound community took.
  7. If you read, it's there for 22/23. 23/24 is in the NZTR annual report
  8. 2023/24 Turnover Breakdown Total Domestic Racing Turnover: $1.31 billion Tote (Totalisator) Turnover: $720 million (~55%) Fixed Odds Turnover: $590 million (~45%) So yes. It's definitely BS.
  9. From the "Size and Scope of NZ Racing 2022–23" report Total Domestic Racing Turnover: $1.28 billion Tote (Totalisator) Turnover: $735 million (~57%) Fixed Odds Turnover: $545 million (~43%)
  10. He might have said that but she didn't. So if there's a nutter here, who is it?
  11. oops that was a snap.
  12. That's exactly what I'm trying to prevent happening.
  13. Don't agree. One is bred for food consumption, the other for human entertainment. I don't want any of them banned. Where did you get that idea?
  14. I've worked in a number of places with 100s of horses and none that I would describe as nuts.
  15. No. Never had or seen an insane horse, and you are right, if I did, I'd blame myself in the first instance.
  16. It's probably a bit of a complex ethical/cultural question, but In my view you can't really compare end of life decisions for animals produced for food with decisions about those produced for sport, gambling and entertainment. Though humaneness and welfare are common to both.
  17. No doubt they have, but have they got them right. From my communication with them, I don't think the estimate of overseas losses is close to right, nor was it soundly based. They still do have to recover ~$10m a year from the lost POCC charges before they get ahead as @Kit Walker points out.
  18. And of course owners but under the supervision of and with the consent of a licence holder.
  19. I may have watched a different interview but I'm pretty sure when asked the question that Becks said no, it shouldn't be banned. Can't be bothered watching it again, but I think that's flat wrong.
  20. You are certainly not alone. Many joining you every week.
  21. No, but does that matter?
  22. You've lost me. Say what you mean? I'm talking about entering private training premises without consent or notice, e.g., landlords.
  23. What do you mean?
