  1. Galah, heard on the grapevine awhile ago that the good horse that came from Graeme Anderson ( can’t remember its name, but many will) and went to The Blue and Silver, the owner had a first month training bill over $5k, which would’ve included quite a few extras. Last I heard AllStars daily charge was over $90 plus GST basic so you probably wouldn’t have much change out of $4,500 for a racing horse on a good month, then again they do win good money most of the time.
  2. Happy, must’ve been a change since I was last there. Used to be a man singing country and western type stuff, but was extremely loud and should’ve been down near the straight further than next to the birdcage, if they wanted him!
  3. I believe that most of these courses that can’t make a dollar will go into housing as there is far more money in that than racing, that is why Addington is the best place to be racing. It is set up with covered stables, locality and most of the food is better than the crap that is dished up at some of these courses.
  4. There is plenty of viewing in the current stand before the winning post Happy. Probably going to be even more soon. No I don’t like the high quality races, quite the opposite, but you only need a couple of looser class races to make money. The singer at a Mot. Is male I thought, unless she is cross dressing and has a male voice?
  5. I was including the gst on the training and shoeing. Does anyone know what the daily training rate for the second tier trainers are at the moment? Doubt trainers can afford to drop their training costs even if they wanted to! Owners are going to become a rarer breed if the stakes are going to be reduced, which they have already tasted is going to happen.
  6. Too bloody cold, most of the year and nothing to do.
  7. Na, Mot is for the pluggers not good quality horses. Addington is the best course for following form and best for viewing. Mot.has limited internet, and that loud country and western singer !
  8. $2k per month would be about right I would say when a horse is racing. some would be over that. you have the basic training plus gst, then shoeing, vets, transport to trials and races and other incidentals to do the horses welfare and you would easily get to $2k unless it was being trained by a very cheap trainer. Trainer at $50 per day is nearly $1800 per month alone. shoeing prob close to $200 Per set by now wouldn’t they be? vets would be anything say $200 at least while racing transport is not exactly cheap plus other bits and pieces so in any reasonable stable would be well in excess of $2k!!
  9. Lol na, couldn’t get anything on and the racing wasn’t that exciting. Had trouble picking up the horses
  10. Harness racing does need a Forbury, unfortunately it is going to be gone in the next few years at best. The stakes have dwindled over the years where it really isn’t viable racing there as they continue to lose money. Think that they were in arrears for their rates to the council, not sure whether they are now up to date. This so-called Killer virus that now has 6 people in hospital for the whole of nZ and not a single person in ICU, will be so detrimental to harness racing nationwide. A lot of the trainers that race at Forbury are seniors who will be giving the racing away and there won’t be too many owners wanting to be paying in excess of 2k per month, to race for a total stake of $5k approx with the winner lucky to get $3k. Harness racing will continue in the future for the next decade, but certainly not as we know it. Less people are going to be breeding as they won’t see any way of turning a profit and the top stallions won’t be having such large books, as their service fees are ridiculously too high. Good idea to race basically solely at Addington as it is the best track racing wise in Australasia, bar none!!!
  11. I know it won’t happen but it would be good if RITA would actually advise us all of the no.of employees and what they are employed to do, so that we can have an understanding of why there are such numbers!! It would be astounding as to the salaries that some of these people are getting for doing eff all, and they want a handout from the taxpayer, who already are paying their exorbitant salaries by way of punting!!! Need to sort their shit out as they will not be a viable proposition goi g forward with their cost structure.
  12. Any chance they could go Fixed Odds only for racing?
  13. Article didn’t say how much wanted! They wanted a taxpayer handout because their turnover was going to be suffering!!!!
  14. Happy, it could well be sport cos it wouldn’t be people opening accounts to bet on racing. You only need to look at the pools for the Ozzie Harness Racing at the moment, not sure whether the pools are comingled with Oz at the mo! Often there is less than $1000 combined for win and place. The TAB should stand on their own as far as operating. Why should a monopoly like the TAB need money to operate. They are going to make money for the year, if not then they should go into liquidation just like every other business. We can not continue to just give money away to everyone that puts their hand out and also those that don’t! This government has not got a clue about business, and how we are going to get out of this mess. Twyford, who was Mr KiwIMess I meant KiwiBuild is the minister of Economic Development, so seriously we are stuffed!!!!!!!!
  15. Rita are delusional if they think there are more punters on horse racing than there used to be. Tote turnover has been down for a long time, but we don’t know how much is being bet with the Bookies on fixed. RITA. Need to cut their employee no.s and justify why so many are on whopping salaries as it is just blatant uneconomical and then they have the cheek to want a handout from the taxpayer????
  16. Happy, you have done very well to write all those not so positive things. Some of things can be altered and improved but very few unfortunately. The whole system needs to be overhauled as there will not be enough horses to race as owners will not wanting to be paying out thousands per month to race for bugger all. There are very few new punters being attracted to the game and without new punters, then racing is stuffed. Galloping trainers are saying that they are looking to move to Australia in the future but that has been happening for years. There is a helluva difference between the ability to win money in Oz and NZ. The Ozzies are still racing and people making money, however we have been totally closed down by a government who has over reacted, but then they wouldn’t care about that. Racing is stuffed for the foreseeable future, and will be doubtful if it will be able to recover to where the existing stake money is! Can trainers afford to drop their training costs to make it somewhat not as expensive to race a horse? Would doubt it except for the blue and silver, but then many of the extras would need to be dropped.
  17. FFS, most people that test positive in NZ have no or very minor symptoms nd others say it is not as bad as the flu!!!!!! Of course there are people dieting of it overseas but there are 8 or 9 strains of it and NZ and Oz have not got the bad strain clearly. Does trying to protect people who are vulnerable in rest homes warrant effing the country and its population, when every year there are just as many people killed by the flu?
  18. Ranga, you must be the hardest person to understand ever! What the hell are you on about? The media has scared most, so much they think it is this virus that is going to kill them. There have been 18 deaths. 16 were over 70 years of age and all had u dearly I g medical conditions. The other 2 were in their 60’s and had medical issues. 10 were from the Rosewood home and most we reform the dimentia ward and were resuscitated by instruction which meant they were waiting for god!!! The government has totally over estimated the virus and panicked and now have brought the country to its knees by their actions. The effects of their actions are going to play out over the next few years.
  19. Basil, the truth of the matter is that our leader is a control freak and is being followed like a cult! You only need to listen to the way she speaks to us at 1.0pm as if she is speaking down to everyone. Of course we had to close things up initially to slow things down, but it just blatantly ridiculous now that they have scared the living daylights out of everyone. People cross the road when you are out walking as if you have the Black Death, where walking past someone is not going to give you any bloody virus. We have had supermarkets open and as far as we know not a single person has contracted the virus from there!! Random testing of the public and not a damn positive!! FFS the sooner the sheep realise that you have had scammed and killed your livelihood the better. There was absolutely no gain for anyone but this government for keeping NZ closed for another week, except it is just her way of showing her control of the NZ public!
  20. To be fair I am not blaming the current government for their business decisions or lack of business decisions! the fact is that none of them have any business sense or success, so we couldn’t expect much!
  21. Was not meant to be insulting Mehe! The point is that elective surgery has been put on hold and people who need surgeries are in limbo, because the government says so!!! There is not going to suddenly be all these people being wheeled into the hospital wards for Covid19, therefore this government should’ve given the hospitals the all clear to operate on people that deserve them. With respect, I don’t believe that most of the country should be suffering emotionally or financially because we have 15 people from Rest Homes catching the virus and dying when the nurses have been told to keep them comfortable but don’t resuscitate. I can assure you that there are many people that die each and every week in rest homes without Covid19. Anyway, I hope your wee operation goes just fine next week?
  22. Anything to do with the brain?
  23. Mehe, don’t intend to get into any to and frying as just can’t be bothered. Yes we needed to be locked down, but the govt. was slow in locking down the borders. They have made many mistakes and couldve done things better including the way the wage subsidy was rushed thru without a lot of thought. Hospitals should’ve been doing surgeries now rather than having surgeons twiddling their thumbs! We should’ve been allowed to go to open spaces outside rather than being coupled up as more chance of catching the virus from affected people inside. Reality is that there has been about 1500 positives including probables and really no deaths caused by the virus to anyone without any underlying conditions and old age!!!! You can be a sheep if you want and go with the flow and believe everything, personally I like to think about things! Anyway, just hope things go good after we are out of home detention but I believe the cure of being locked up will be far worse than the disease!!! Anyway, Ozzie trots on !
  24. Brodie does get the facts! There are far more deaths every year due to the normal flu! 800 deaths in NZ every week and not locked down! Will be heaps of deaths due to the consequences of being locked up! Generations will be indebted due to the lockdowns, The situation should have been monitored and when numbers were what they were, things should’ve been amended. Telling us everyday the no. Of positives and probables is a waste of time when most of the positives had very minor symptoms at worst, many with no symptoms. The random tests in Queenstown, ChCh, Waikato and Auckland had ZERO positives! The fact that many positives have no symptoms shows that it is not a killer virus at all! The virus strikes vulnerable people in Rest Homes but the standard yearly flu kills them every damn year without the country being locked up! You can believe what you want, your prerogative but the fact is that the modelling of having 28,000 dying from Covid19 just shows what a load of BS it is and stating g it is because of the early lockdown is a cop out! Adults have to be locked up but it is ok for school kids to go,to,school, that is because the virus in NZ is no worse than the flu. Are we getting locked up again when the winter flu hits? Why haven’t the hospitals been doing operations when the hospitals are so empty? So much scaremongering by the government and media!!!!!
  25. Noodlum, there are more killed every year in NZ from the flu every year. There are about 800 people die every week in NZ from a variety of things and we are in lockdown because we have a few elderly frail vulnerable people pass away with the instruction not to resuscitate? When influenza hits and people catch it, are we all going to be locked down like this every year because vulnerable people have been admitted to hospital? Seriously, this has been overplayed by a leader that is power crazy! Australia haven’t been in totally lockdown like us and yet their death rate is less tha. Hours percentage wise! Oz was told that they could have 150,000 deaths and they have had just over 70! The damage has been done to the country due to the decisions that the government has made, although so many have been totally brainwashed by this virus!
