Ranga, wasn’t aware that people from rest homes were going into TAB’s?
-
Galah, he has been a total drain on the taxpayer all of his life. His claim to fame, the Gold Card, wow
-
At least the TAB is open and people will be able to collect their betting vouchers that have been burning a hole in their wallet while they are still trading! Do you think they will still be honouring the betting vouchers lol No I personally won’t be giving details of the Brodster, if they don’t want punters In then the punters won’t go in!! I
-
A bit rich coming from Peters who has been a drain on the taxpayer all of his life. Doesnt even know he was getting too much Super from the taxpayer and then has the gall to sue the taxpayer. He loses in court and then the taxpayer has a bloody bill of over $1 million for his failure and this fellah is the saviour of racing? Yeah right!
-
Happy, and you believe this BS? The 70m will go nowhere. Stakes are going to go south and owners are going to pull out! Watch this space for the demise now, if they couldn’t make money when business was going well, they aren’t going to in the future and with a Communist government in power!
-
I won’t say unbelievable, because it is believable going on previous decisions! I have been saying for years that the TAB don’t care a rats arse about racing as it has been costing them money! Sports betting is where they have been making the profit and they have to make a profit to be able to pay salaries of $750,000 and the other 130 odd who were on over $100k!!!!!! Racing has deteriorated so badly in recent years and how you get to the stage where RITA owes money to the Bank where it can’t afford to pay it back, it is totally effed! Sadly turnover is not going to increase sufficiently with the current economic climate taking place.
-
Nowornever, the NZ TAB won’t beat the Brodster! Personally don’t need to be investing on Harness Racing, it is the cha,Lange that I used to enjoy. Fortunately financially have everything well and truly covered by good investment and if they only have online wagering then the industry will be in dire straights and won’t survive. Do not think the 70 million will be a god send as 20 mill was for the artificial tracks. Think they owe plenty to Banks and so there certainly won’t be much left over to pay the clubs for racing and the still massive salaries of the overpaid bigwigs. What they need to survive is an attractive package to attract wagering and to have that they need to have horses and I can see ownership numbers dwindling significantly unfortunately. If Harness disappears then maybe the dishlkckers are an option? Yeah/Nah!

You called the Brodster “Uncle Scrooge” for some strange reason, that is why I pointed out that your name calling was very inaccurate!!! Not too sure how you got that I was benefit bashing? What I was clearly pointing out Whiplash, was that Ardern wants to reduce the so-called inequality of wealth in NZ by making the wealthy not so wealth so that the gap is closed. Surely, it would be far more productive for the country to encourage the people without as much wealth, to increase their personal wealth, whether they were working or on welfare? It is the Communist way though to control the people is to have them reliant on government! As for running for parliament, give it a miss as I am not one to have my nose in the public trough! I do believe I would certainly be a helluva lot better than every single one of the current government bar none!!!
-
Whiplash, if you are calling the Brodster Uncle Scrooge then you are well off the mark big time. I spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each and every year on things! My point is that communism is all about control and Arderns ideology is that people shouldn’t have wealth or they are able to. Are their own decisions. To close the inequality gap in wealth she would rather ensure that the people with wealth loses their wealth rather than the poor increase their wealth thru their own efforts! It is the Communist way.
-
Greg, yes he had knowledge of thoroughbreds, but nothing with harness or dogs. It was the constant shite that he continually spat out that was not needed.
-
Don’t think Winnie would be wanting to be listening to Comrade Ardern. Brian Tamaki certainly isn’t, even though he is normally a tosser, Inactually agree with him with not following the 10 people rule, and Ardern bringing in the new rules this morning. Ardern is a Communist and the sooner the sheep realise this the better as she is so dangerous.

Coronavirus: TAB consults on plan to cut 30 per cent of jobs
Brodie replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Holy, I am aware that the Mad Butcher ships have been struggling for years, doesn’t make it right that he couldn’t sell meat online!!!! Well aware that there are 500suicides per year in NZ and it is going to be a helluva lot more this year and coming years as the fallout from business failures and people being laid off plays out. Dont intend getting into a further debate Holy, but seriously the additional weeks in lockdown for business has proven an absolute over reaction hasn’t it and has now ensured that a lot more businesses will go to the wall. Might be incorrect but as far as I am aware there has not been a single positive to the virus in the South Island for over 2 weeks whereas business could’ve been operating. The death toll is going to be huge from the effects of the extended lockdown and for what?. -
Get rid of all the clowns that have justified the stupid costly decisions that have been made and continually will be. The trough should be lowered and non performers moved on! Reality is that the punting turnover on racing will continue to suffer unless the product is promoted and new punters are brought onboard.

Coronavirus: TAB consults on plan to cut 30 per cent of jobs
Brodie replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Holy, because what the Chief states is a truthful statement. No point debating it again, but what I will state is that Chief has got his screwed on the right way and has a heck of a lot of common sense. He is stating his opinion which is fact based and seems to be a common sense unbiased opinion. Did you read where the owner of the Pukekohe Mad Butcher passed away in the ,ast few days a week after his business went into liquidation due to Arderns extended lockdown. He was trying to sell online but was not allowed to so he was forced to go broke. He was on TV1 a few weeks ago stating his position but made no difference he could see no way out! This is just the beginning of the fallout from the unescessarily long lockdown and stuffing of people’s financial position. Thats right we were told to stay at home and save lives!!! BS!! Killed this young fellah and she was not being kind. -
Form is temporary, class is permanent as they say! Refreshed and ready for post Covid form. Wont be offloading stRaight away as there will be no form to follow, but rest assured I am back! Question has to be asked though? did Winnie run this past our esteemed leader Ardern first before he was allowed to say anything???
-
So by the look of it STEVE DAVIS has gone as well? Gee that will be a heck of a loss won’t it????? Some liked him though, I thought he was great too on mute!
-
So on that basis, why are the big wigs that have made stupid decisions, not fallen on their swords or acknowledged their shortcomings. If this was in the private sector these managers would be down the road, but as per usual the punters and taxpayers and horse participants are going to wear it. All the while these big wigs will be drawing their $10k per week salaries.
-
The turkeys at the top of RITA are very conspicuous by their absence! Where is this CEO of RITA, where is this clown Saville who will be on $750k close to that? What have they done for the benefit of the TAB and racing? Haven’t got a problem paying those salaries if the are worth it and add value, however they are have not shown any of it and should be on jobseeker benefit
-
Lol, Rusty you are the type of enthusiast racing definitely need at the moment. Unfortunately the way things are going, I think racing as we know it is going to be dead in the water unless the government bails it out big time and that is doubtful with this government. They do not want business to be successful either do the big wigs at RITA or TAB! Would be interesting to have the TAB bosses actually tell us punters what they actually do each year for their salaries of up to $750k? As for my kids, no they will never be interested as they have other interests and they are fortunate that they do not need racing to support them. I have really enjoyed Harness Racing from a young age and for many years but it has been allowed to deteriorate for many years now unfortunately. This Covid19 has just sped things up dramatically and there are goi g to be one heck of a lot of people in the industry that are now going to need to contemplate their future. Owners are not going to continue to plough money into an industry where there is now no chance of a profit, where many now will need to plough this money into their business or their savings for retirement! Hopefully Brodie is totally wrong here and I would be more than happy to have egg on my face providing it is not too hot!!! Keep up the good work Rusty, and bring on the Addington racing.
-
Galah, exactly my point! If people who are in their 20’s are not interested in racing now they probably won’t be when they are 40 years old. Therefore if these people aren’t coming thru then racing is dead in the water in years to come! I have been interested in harness racing since before I was 10 due to my mother and her father having a bit of an interest in racing. None of my children have any interest in racing whatsoever and probably never will. Believe it or not I have a few mates or acquaintances who also have children and none of them appear to be interested in racing either. This is a major problem that racing is going to encounter and you only need to see the number of young ones on course nowadays, apart from the industry participants. Personally speaking, even I haven’t attended on course as many meetings as I used to as if you can’t get a decent amount on, then I might as well stay at home and watch on Trackside, as the atmosphere is not there any longer!

JJ, Brodie smarter than what? I am as smart as I need to be, anymore smart and I would be pretty dangerous. Of course we all know that the TAB and RITA were wasting too much money and not operating very well at all. We have been advised that there were 10 employees being paid by the punter in excess of $250k and up to $750k currently and previously $1million. This is just plain lunacy and exhorbitancy that the industry can not afford to pay if the racing industry is to continue. The people that provide the entertainment work long and hard for not a lot of return and yet these big wigs week in and week out draw massive salaries for doing exactly what???? Yes there will be savings by effectively sacking over 230 employees, but if they had all these extras why wasn’t this action done previously, and don’t blame Covid19. These employees who have been taking home these big salaries have been making blatantly stupid and costly decisions and yet they will remain on the RITA payroll drawing just as ludicrous salaries they always have. I have no idea what Dave McDonald, Guerin, Whale etc were on or how much it cost to run Trackside radio, therefore what the savings are going to be! However JJ, what I would suggest to you is that the punters that we need to be offloading on racing, is not going to be bothered having a crack at Dubai Camel Racing as they won’t know the form of the bloody camels, although the track will always be sandy! Trackside TV racing in NZ is going to be pretty bland and boring without any presentation and the wall to wall that comes in from Australia whether it be dogs, harness or gallops is pretty mind d numbing. As for being selfish JJ, who is being more selfish in your opinion. Brodie for wanting to be treated equally with all other punters in NZ or the RITA big wigs who are receiving massive salaries for doing two fifths of eff all?
-
Galah, yes you are correct that racing has to be promoted to people that want to currently punt! However racing thru the 70s was very popular as the stands at Addington were often full on a Saturday night. We have an almighty problem coming up if there are no new punters coming thru at all if they have not been attracted to racing. They don’t all of a sudden develop an interest in racing when they are in their 40’s and start punting on horses. This means no new owners as well, so without promotion to the young people then racing will be dead in the water. As someone said the average age of trackside viewers is people in their 60’s so the industry has a lot of work to do!
-
The big wigs on the $750k salary know they need to cut costs, but need to protect their own salaries! How do we do this, either get rid of others or drop ours? Eureka!! They need to make the product better not worse or punters will vote with their feet. This is not going to go down too well with punters when NZ Racing is going to be on equal promotion with overseas racing, as there will be no special promotion.
-
Instead of paying these Baboons in RITA $750k per year ditch those morons that make stupid decisions and pay the ones they are letting go some of these savings. Seriously, they need to make changes to save but they also need to attract new punters and people to the industry. Without more wagering then there is no real hope in the future! Larger punters encouraged to offload without restrictions to get turnover up?
-
Yeah, this is brilliant it is going to bring in heaps of new punters no doubt, as there will be more gallops from Beaudesert, and camel racing from Dubai. FFS, what an absolute bunch of drongoes! Harness Racing is stuffed, punters don’t want wall to wall racing, this is part of the problem.
