Women and young girls are doing a magnificent job nowadays in harness racing! We are indeed fortunate that there are so many females working in the industry, whether it be working in the stables, training and driving. Without so many in the industry now it would be struggling even more. You only need to look at sone of the Junior drivers races in recent years, some of the fields were half filled by female drives and most are very skilled horse people. We need to continue to entice them into harness racing as I believe that there doesnt seem to be as many males from racing families coming thru like they used to!

Just having a gander at the fields for Invercargill on Friday. normally they would have good size fields and at least 10 races often more! Where are the horses down there at the moment, as there are only 8 races and only 60 horses lining up at this stage, which must be disappointing for the Club! Several races with 6 or 7 only, even the only maiden race has only 8 starters? Does anyone know why there is a lack of horses wanting to race at Invercargill, or is there a drop off of numbers in work down South?

If it looked like mould, smelt like mould, it would be mould. what else would it be lol? The tenant doesn’t have to pay to have curtains tested for mould, but if they take over the property without mould on the curtains it is up to them to ensure that when they hand it back over, there is no mould! Any mould on the back of the curtains wouldve been picked up when the comprehensive initial property inspection report was completed by both parties!

Geez Chippy - You suddenly find out there is a gang problem?!!!!

Walt, what areas have Labour done well in? Most incompetent useless bunch we could ever have had in Wellington unfortunately. Decimated the country and we are going to find out that we are in a worse position once the books are opened up! Someone with Robertsons lack of financial ability should never ever been in charge of finance! -
George Eliot is actually a filly. George Eliot was a pen name for a novelist way back in the 1800’s. not sure what is going on when owners name their male horses with female names, but there is too much of this LGBTQRS and goats stuff going on nowadays!! Why would you name a male horse, Granny Rose? There are others as well, world gone crazy!

Galah, does seem to be excessive penalty for Alan Clark’s drive. It was only 1700metres and have seen so many much poorer drives from other drivers that result in no penalty whatsoever. In many cases the driver on the pacemaker would have handed up to Mr Clark, but the fact that Brad Williamson didnt seems to be the contributing factor here!!! Also not a supporter of Mr Clark when it comes to his ability to drive and he has driven so many more races worse than this one yesterday! Personally believe he has been hard done by on this occasion. The horse he drove actually went pretty well and if it keeps improving then there should be a win or two forthcoming.

There were very few patrons on-course apparently last Sunday at Rangiora. The cost of living for many will mean that they haven’t got the discretionary $ to punt or the $ to drive out to Rangiora! To be fair unless you own a horse racing or work in the industry you probably wont bother going out unless it is a beautifully fine day and warm, when you can watch on TV or record and watch later! The TAB also are also not making it worth the while with their restrictions and AML BS that hopefully National/Act will ease up on?
-
Not sure whether they have a new harness Bookie setting the odds, but whoever it is doesn’t appear to want to attract money to be wagered! when so many are unders on opening, there is just no point even bothering. Easier and more profitable ways of making money without having to do the serious homework. What I do know is that it is not on the best interest of harness racing if they don’t have punters.
-
Personally havent bothered to have a go for four weeks or so. Addington fields at the moment are pretty much the same week in week out without the racing at many other tracks! I believe since Entain took over that the Fixed Odds opening prices on the first four or five favourites are far shorter than they used to be especially the place odds! What serious punter is going to be investing $ on harness when you have four or five paying under $1.50 for a place?????? We also dont seem to be hearing on Trackside anymore of any BIG BETS!!! When it was announced these so called big bets, it was a bit weird because I was putting on a helluva lot more than these big bets and yet not announced lol
-
Galah, what are you doing watching gallops?? Where do you think the saying “its a mugs game” came from? You can not follow thoroughbred form to any great degree! They can win one day and run awful the next! As long as you dont wager on them you will be fine lol

Personally heavily supported Franco Hoffman when it was in the NZ Amateur drivers race well over a month ago when I thought the way it was going was a cert to place! Went very average and the way it went that day thought it was going go struggle to win another race! Was driven that day by a North Islander! Then it lined up in another amateur race with Michael in the cart and it grew many lengths so not sure what caused this to happen when it bolted in?. As you say Walt, it then went on to win its next two starts against far better horses!! Not sure what is going on but many of the House Stables horses are senior citizens and maybe they missed their afternoon kip when they go poor or had extra vitamins when they win?

Agreed, Wilson looked to hand up to Kennedy as soon as he was in front, which wasnt the thing to do. Rangiora is a front runners course where leading up normally assures you of being in the money. You would only hand up to a natural front runner you would think? Santanna Mach has grown another leg recently as he went thru a patch of pretty average performances.

Mossdale Ben winning for the Hopes was great. Horse has clearly strengthened up. Ben Hope such a likeable young man along with Carter Dalgety and several other Juniors which is great for the industry.
-
Mostly gone now and fewer by the years! There are pub-tabs but yes most of the operators also pour the Pints and arent that interested in punters! There are the self service machines but apparently they are going to be reducing them as well. The TAB want everyone to be betting online thru computer or phones so they have control of your wagering on account😩 Very difficult to withdraw your winnings in cash as none of them hold much cash! They want you to spend your betting voucher or have winnings credited to a Bank Account so once again they know who is collecting. They are driving punters away from harness racing betting in truckloads, but they wont care as Entain now wants the sports betting and other forms, rather than harness racing which will continue to decline unless they change policies.
-
Have to identify yourself to the TAB Gamma, if you are collecting $2k! Chances are you are a money launderer according to them!
-
Yeah $51 is just ridiculously low. Tab should open up a book on where it will finish in the race! Speaking of that, has the NZ TAB got rid of the harness HEAD To HEADS again? Gallops are still getting them continuously but not harness, for some reason????!

Does this set a precedent for Addington in the future if they are allowed to start in a race just to pick up the also ran money? Surely it needs to be monitored better? Clearly Trevor is playing by the rules as it is a “free For All” so entitled to start. It is only an eight horse field so you would hope that you arent following him on the home bend as Rachmaninov has not won a race on Addington in 116 starts and that aint going to change Friday night! Not putting the horse down as he has been a very honest toiler it is just that he is not competitive in that class by a long way unfortunately.
-
I appreciate it that it is a “free for” however it is not in harness racing best interests! if it is a out getting money for running last, then why dont non winning horses make up the rest of the field and get the over $437 for just lining up? Surely Trevor doesn’t think the horse is competitive in that field, surely he is taking the piss?? The racebook comment says he will be looking for shortcuts!!! He will be needing far more than shortcuts, maybe across the centre of the track! Hope Rachmaninov goes a good race but the Club should just hand Trevor the $437.50 when he gets onto the track?
-
With respect to Trevor Grant, not too sure why he is lining Rachmaninov up on Friday night. We all know that the horse always tries as hard as he can every week but to be fair he is hardly short of racing to get him fully fit! He goes around most weeks and yes I know that it is the owners right to line the horse up! However, on paper Rachmaninov is going to have absolutely no chance of being in the money as his ability nowadays is nowhere anywhere near as good as any of the other 7 starters! In fact he is a whopping 27 points lower than Spy Da Moment who is in career best form and assessed at 62 whereas Rachmaninov is as low as you can be at 35!!!!! Soy Da Moment is the next loosest assessed hores in the field. Rachmaninov also carded to start in a 35-40 class trot on Sunday at Rangiora where he obviously going to be far more competitive. Racing can always turn up upsets as we know but there is no way on earth that Rachmaninov is going to be competitive on Friday night against its opposition, so personally can not see why you would be lining it up when it is in on Sunday???

Seriously Holy, the Pfizer has got to your brain! That lady was a rep from Pfizer you Clown! So you reckon the European court is not legit? Lol
-
Young Carter Dalgety still having an excellent season. From what I looked at he has had 138 drives fir the season and has won 33, so near on wins every 4 starts! Not bad for a Junior and has an excellent UDR. Not sure whether he chases drives too hard as with his ability he should be driving in most races in Canterbury!
-
Did I say that Paleface? It was a Cup race for horse’s assessed at 55 and over and you believe that those horses would compete competitively in the NZ Cup? Harrison finished second and he would be outclassed in the Cup even though Mossdale Ben went a good time off 20m!

With respect Gamma, that field in the Kurow Cup yesterday was hardly quality ??? Worst Kurow Cup field ever!
