For some reason there is a train of thought by many that Greyhound racing should be ended! Personally I dont really see the need to end it, as it us not really cruel to the dogs at all, as they all love to chase! There are other things that should be finished a long time before greyhound racing like Climate Change Rallies, LGBT Rallies and Lefty idealogies!

$40 per month on greyhounds and $25 per month per gambler on harness? Gee you couldnt really be calling them gamblers could you if they are wagering so little? I was under the impression that the Ozzies were big punters but clearly they arent? How could they be only spending $25 per month, $6 per week, surely not so little?

Good post, and explains clearly why many of the posters on here are fearful for the future of harness racing in NZ! There is absolutely no way on earth that this heavy subsidisation of money can continue to be given to North Island clubs that are under performing! I highly doubt it can be turned around despite the North Island based presenters trying to suggest that things arent that bad, they are deluded! Where is the interest going to come from all of a sudden to improve things? Are we suddenly going to attract new owners, trainers and punters? The TAB have certainly done a great job in putting off the punters with punter restrictions also adopting a ludicrously low AML limit that is not in line with the AML regulations for racing! It is interesting that we do not hear much at all from them, but then again why would we while they are getting paid? That will be stopping in approx. 18 months and then they may well be squawking?? They arent really showing us at all that they have racing interests at heart mid term and they have a few storm clouds circling!

It is all good, Entain have the answer to improve the racing, turnover and amount of horses racing, that no one else came up with! It is just Brilliant! Programme more races!! Just has to work doesnt it?

Yes only bet fixed, Doomed. Havent bet tote since fixed odds came in on racing, snd would never bet tote ever again. Not sure about tote paying more but they certainly wouldn’t if I had a tote bet, with amount in the tote pool I bet into, I would only get my money back! No, don’t back shorties ever, surefire way to be a losing punter! No, don’t back $30 fixed odds win bets either! Lol

$10 wouldve a reasonable amount of money back then! TAB allow me to only net $20 on some bets in 2024?

They arent that welcoming Ladbrokes Australia unless you are donating to their coffers! Show any consistency in winning and they will shut you down, Chief. If the NZ TAB want punters to offload on racing then they need to show that they want punters. Giving some punters free bets or cash bonuses to losing punters is falsifying the true amount being wagered! They will continue to lose punters interests in NZ and they can least afford that to happen in racing! Encourage punting to increase turnover who in turn introduce more punters. some of the decisions they have made are mind numbing stupidity, if they are wanting to make more money, however I do not believe that they are that business savvy!

Yes Saturday nights are far better for getting crowds! people dont have time after work to get out to the trots early enough and would just as easy watch on Trackside from the comfort of their lounge suite! Saturday nites would be far more beneficial to get new people oncourse . Why do you think the Metro courses in Oz race on a Saturday nite?

Just received an email from Ladbrokes stating that all Ladbrokes Australia accounts held by NZ residents are to be closed as from 24/6/3024%, they state that they recently entered into a 25 year partnering agreement with NZ residents with TAB NZ! From that date no more wagering from Ladbrokes Australia accounts, and they need to open a TAB NZ account and get a similar experience to Ladbrokes Australia! Hardly wait, as they didnt treat Brodie that well! Lol Interesting isnt it?

Personally and some will not agree with Brodie, but from what I can see is that Entain has very little interest in NZ harness racing after their guarantee is up! They have sucked in the NZ TAB and McAnulty with their bribes, and when they are finished their is going go be a massive decline in stake money. Once this happens their will be a huge drop off owners and then trainers and horses and it will spiral from there! You can disagree as much as you like but there is very little from Entain that actually shows that they are interested in the NZ harness product! The fact that they have brought out a far inferior Trackside website now being operated out of Oz is clearly showing this! They are very inaccurate, provide poor information and comments that are blatantly poorly thought out and not worth reading! Make the most of what we have got while the guarantee’s are in place as Entain know that it is going to turn to shite!! Where is this Dean Shannon bloke speaking out about the poor decisions being made. Cos he is in it for himself and wont speak out as be is only a figurehead for Entain! Feel free to dispute any of this?

I believe that the most ardent racing enthusiasts get the bug when they are very young. I still remember listening to the wireless radio and having the yellow and greenish colour paper tickets alongside me on a Saturday. Trying to pick up Reg Clapp on A Saturday night and hearing the Magness Benro adds, and the staticy very hard to get Greymouth trots! What we are missing is getting the youngsters along to the course so they can get the harness bug early on! I do not believe that without that, the industry can possibly survive medium term! People of gambling age generally just do not bet the bug from going to Cup Day, they are going there for the social aspect and perving! The clubs and HRNZ need to be doing serious marketing like Harness Racing Unhinged is at least having a go!

Entering thru the gate that people with tickets went through, and pointing around the corner at the turnstiles at Addington, if the men in white coats tried to accoste me! you were meant to be accompanied by an adult if you were under 18! Had a lot of parents back then!

There is if you havent got a cell phone or computer! It would be far easier for the punter and more profitable for the TAB if the details of the tote pools and PLACE ODDS were shoeing on the screen! They wont do this cos their cheap and far worse set up is coming from Ozzie! Ask the Trackside presenters if they like the new set up without the place odds! It is amateur time now, info is inaccurate, comments are shocking!

Ranga are you back on the turps? What on earth are you on about saying that wasnt always the case before? Can you give us all a valid reason why they show only the win odds and not place odds, and how it is any sort of improvement? Decent answer only please!

So they need to be looking on their phones or ipads? Why would they change it from what it was before? Why bother putting up the WIN ODDS then? They are not very professional at all, very Amateur with racing!!!!!

Ranga, they arent showing it on Trackside, which is where the people they are wanting to get interested are viewing! Entain’s racing arm, are very very average at best, Sport’s is where they are more focused! You only have to look at the TAB website for the racing information, it is extremely inaccurate in many parts! The dollars won etc. are in Aud, the comments in horses performances and fixed odds just do not add up!! The comments about where the early speed and racing position is just atrociously bad, that they neednt bother! Updated form etc. is poor, the HRNZ site is far more beneficial! McAnulty and the TAB should never have sold out to a Corporate that are on the downward spiral! They lost nearly $2 billion NZD in the 2023 year, which shows that they are clearly having major issues!

Michael, why do they only show the Win odds? They need to be showing both for obvious reasons! Sorry, don’t accept charity, you be best to donate the laptop to charity! The Trackside presenters used to discuss the place odds, but now they don’t, and I am sure if you asked them, they would not be happy about many of the changes!!!!!!

Excellent and accurate posting Galah. The popularity of punters still punting on NZ harness is indeed dropping hugely and NZ harness Clubs should be very worried! There are several reasons for this which I nave mentioned numerous times! I was looking at turnover on meetings at Addington during the week. There were pools on the tote of under $2k when I was looking shortly before the start of races. They arent showing this on Trackside as the turnover on the tote is now absolutely pathetic and this is at Addington the best track in NZ! Time that Tab/Entain actually start listening to their long time customers and allow them to participate more freely or yes things are going to continue to decline!!!!!! They are losing their most loyal clientele and that is not how any business can continue but then again Entain wasnt after harness racing, they were after the Sports betting in NZ for 25 long years.

There are just far too many races in NZ that are just not worth betting into, and tgis will continue unless they can have bigger fields. Entain have not done the TAB or racing any favours by not showing the place divs on Trackside!!!!! They show the win odds tote and fixed which is just a waste of time! Say the fixed win is $8 and the tote is $12 so. You would expect the punters to go the tote seem there is a variance wouldnt you? So someone backs on the tote not knowing what the pool is and then it closes at $6! Punters want to know both the win and place and the tote pool! what is the damn point posting only the win odds when many of the horses have no chance of winning and therefore the punters might prefer to back PLACE????? Just crazy some of the things they have done in the last few months! There has to be some reason to the madness?

AllStars just arent as dominant as they were a year or so ago! Mark has got other things on his mind, he has clearly stated this! You can not really blame him for losing a bit of interest as just like male stallions they lose interest in racing at some stage and therefore retire from racing ! You need to be so dedicated to be getting up very early in the morning and finish late, 7 days a week and to the scale that MArk and Natalie and co. have been operating under. Without Mark on the scene there is no doubt they will not be operating at the same level and if the current owners are not getting the same results they have been over the last few years, they will spread their horses around to other trainers! This has already started to occur as most of us know that the training costs to have a horse trained at the AllStars is not chicken feed! Personally wish Nathan and Michael all the best with the training at AllStars as they have massive boots to fill!

Not sure where the TAB/ Entain are getting their info from??? You would have to be slightly deluded if you think that the site is better than what we had before 🤣 The info and comments are shockingly poor compared to what the TAB site used to have, it is definitely a step backwards for racing in NZ! Natives Inferno ran second on Wednesday at Addington and today is Sunday and the site has not updated the form on it, despite it opening up very short so the Bookies know it ran second or it wouldve opened longer. Speedmap has it leading lol It has drawn 1 and is not fast away from a stand ever! They shouldve left the site as it was but then they just do not care!
