Was good to see that young Wilson House eased Warloch out of its race last Friday night! Warloch bled during the running and was eased out of the race with 1300m to run. Warloch has been a great toiler over many years winning a multitude of races! Many times he has had the quickest sections and has often punched well above his weight by racing some pretty good horses at Addington. He was many lengths below some of our better horses but seemed to always try his heart out and it is surprising that he was not sent to Ozzie to race, as I am sure he wouldve done a super job over there! We have probably seen Warloch race for the last time in NZ, you would think?

Everything now says the racing SEASON should be Jan to Dec, but no HRNZ says it is Aug to July and they call it racing YEAR! What is the reason that they maintain that the SEASON is Aug to July that cant be easily changed? Makes no sense!!

No problem at all with the racing year being from Jan to Dec. calendar year as that is what we have for most other things. The horses birthday age now gets changed as from the 1st January ! So why can this not be the racing SEASON?

Apart from the change of the horses birthdate for age based races there is absolute no benefit whatsoever!!!! It doesnt extend any horses racing life at all! Just read on HRNZ site and can someone please explain what the hell they mean? They say the harness year is January through to December! However the 2023-2024 season started on the 1st August??????? From what I have been told, Craig is allowed on early, and apparently he is restricted! Not sure whether he makes money on the punt or not, but doubt he does, he would seem to make money out of his Tipline and from being pain by the NZ TAB! It is pretty obvious that the NZ TAB wouldnt be wanting anyone tipping out if they were any good! What Craig is doing is clearly a CONFLICT OF INTEREST! “Whale” is a passionate harness enthusiast and we need plenty more of these in the future so HRNZ really need to be putting all their efforts into retaining and getting new enthusiasts into the sport! Without the betting turnover there is not enough profit for the harness industry to survive medium term! We need punters to be attracted to the sport and we need far more new owners. This is the biggest challenge that racing has to find the answer to!

At the end of the day, it is up to the Punter whether they want to take advice from the many Tipsters! Whether it be Craig Thompson, the commentator, Trackside presenter or the online ones! Personally i would’ve thought that the fun of punting was selecting the winners yourself? Following someone elses tips and backing them is a bit boring and in most cases a surefire way of losing!

You are correct Galah, the current system helps a lot of horses to stay racing in New Zealand rather than be exported to Oz. There are an absolute heap of horses who hovel around the rating 35 to 40 mark indefinitely while racing like Take After Me as one example.

To be fair “The Race” is overhyped for what it is for harness racing! Does anyone know how much “ Grins” actually contributes . Yes harness racing needs promotion big time and good to see it in action! However as previously stated it is just a transfer of funds from one high flyer to another existing harness participant! We need to be attracting new blood to the industry and one race at Cambridge that is over in well under 3 minutes, I doubt does this! Harness racing oncourse was once very popular with many thousands bon course every Saturday night at Addington with a great atmosphere and food fare wasnt much more than Stevies pies or custard squares! For the industry to thrive we need new people oncourse in bucket loads and wasting $150k of industry money on one race for the elite is not going to achieve this!
