  1. Does anyone know how the NZ TAB they choose their Bookies? Kieran McAnulty was once a Bookie for the TAB supposedly? Michael Guerin on an interview with McAnulty asked him if he still had a bet??? McAnulty said that he still does! Are you any good! Asked Guerin? McAnulty said NO!! So if he didnt know how to make money punting why on earth was he employed by the TAB to set odds???
  2. Not sure who is setting the odds currently or are there several who do it for differing parts of the country? Tony Barron actually sold that Judith Gwenda horse to Tyler Dewe clients, on what it has shown so far at the trials and today probably Tony Barron got the better deal. The Bookies need to do their homework better and also let punters on for a reasonable amount!!!!!!!
  3. The Bookies believe that a bet of $200 is a big bet worth showing as such on Trackside last night!!!! The interesting thing is that they mostly never mention bets that have larger returns than what they announce? Very strange indeed!
  4. Bookies not wanting any money on the Tyler Dewe horses clearly. Going to be interesting tomorrow to see how they go but I believe there are far better value around Gamma. The thing is Tyler is not overly gifted in the cart and yet he has this amazing UDR for training?????
  5. Tyler Dewe is continually picking up more horses from other stables! Going to be very interesting to see if he can keep the wins coming like he has? Not sure why he has had so many wins so early on in his career as he comes from the Hamish Hunter stable who hasnt got a great UDR? If this Judith Gwenda was thought much of, I doubt Tony Barron wouldve sent it away down south! Has shown very little so far at the trials and $2 fixed is crazy short, but punters be on if you believe the horse can prove me wrong!
  6. Does anyone know who the current harness Bookmaker is that sets the odds? How on earth could Judith Gwenda open up at $2 fixed odds in the first race at Invercargill on Sunday? Yes the horse is now trained by young Tyler Dewe who has done a great job with the horses he started! However $2 first up for a horse that has shown very little so far at the trials including a very average performance recently at the trials for Dewe. The horse was trained previously by Tony Barron in Canterbury who is no mug trainer and yet when it ran 5th and qualified recently it didnt go very flash at all finishing last and a distance from the second to last horse. If this Judith Gwen comes out and wins first up for young Dewe, there really does need to be some serious questions asked as to how a poor performing horse that has shown very little can be turned around so quickly! Can it win, No it can not on what it has shown so far but then again Dewe improved the hell out of very average horses before!!!!!
  7. Young people mostly are not looking to wager on harness racing!! The industry has not promoted itself well enough over the last couple of decades and this has been hugely detrimental as well as the poor treatment to many punters who have been very loyal to them for many decades!! Reality is that the industry is in serious trouble and anyone that says that it isn’t, has their eyes closed. There are next to no new trainers coming through now as there is barely a living in it for trainers unless they are able to win regularly.
  8. Turnover oncourse has dropped as well as patronage on all courses over the past few years!! No real point going oncourse nowadays for many punters who like to take things more seriously than others! When you are restricted by the amount you can win before having to identify yourself, there is absolutely no point going oncourse. The restrictions on certain punters by the NZ TAB from the amount they allow you to wager and also the blatantly ludicrous $1k limit for the ANTI MONEY LAUNDERING excuse is going to be continually detrimental to turnover and harness racing! The TAB are getting what they deserve but unfortunately it is harming the racing industry and ultimately there will be a huge loss of jobs at the TAB when it is run by ENTAIN! Crazy policies always come back to haunt you and have bad consequences!!!
  9. Yes most of the PUB TAb’s do not give a rats nowadays, they just hole that punters jse the self service terminals. There are very few punters using them now as the interest from many is dropping off! The TAB hierarchy has made several stupid policies that is limiting turnover and profit and that is the major reason that they are looking to outsource to Entain!!!!! Punters are using Betting Vouchers nowadays rather than cash and none of the outlets ever hold enough cash to pay you out!!!!! ! And no, I dont want it credited to an account!!!!
  10. Would like to know how much this GRINS actually contribute for the naming rights???? As Galah states it is going to have a short shelf life as it is only for the Big Boys and Corporates and highly unlikely to bring new entrants into the harness industry. It is also likely to be subsidised so hardly beneficial to the industry. Look it is great that they are trying things to try and keep the industry going but this is not going to help one iota. The positive about it is that they have listened and pushed the distance out to 2200 metres rather than the blatantly stupid mile!!!!! I hope everything goes well for “The Race By Grins” But as for interest from the enthusiasts it really is not worth the hype BS that the media try to push onto us! As Galah says a non win race at Methven or Addington has got far more interest as a punting proposition!
  11. 3 more sleeps till “The Race by Grins” Can hardly wait! Does this race really do anything beneficial for the harness industry? If it does, would love to know?
  12. Not sure he would like soup? Craig I am sure is a good bloke but the fact that he picked all the winners on Jewels Day 50 years ago is a bit over rated isnt it? I dont keep a record of what he picks or collects but From watching his picks over the years he would surely be on the losing side of it? If People want to pay him for his tips on his hotline then all good but to be charging people on that and yet give them out for free and being paid by the TAB, just does not sit right!
  13. Wouldnt know that, but why on earth do they persist with this very loud music as Newmarket has said?
  14. To be fair the TAB employ him to tip out what he likes and the fact of the matter is that he is doing a great job for them! Should not be allowed with him tipping for the TAB and also getting income from his Whale Hotline!!!!
  15. Newmarket you are correct, lunacy having so long between races in April! You are also correct, the fellah singing near the birdcage is a pain the butt!! If you want to hear music then go to a concert or a bar! He sings far too loud for where he is located, would be better located at about the 800 mark!
  16. Gamma, there are already enough races fir the big boys and is a constant drain on the coffers of harness! My point is that in Nz anything to do with finance the control freaks in Wellington want to know where the money came from and where it is going??? You invest money they want to know! You buy or sell property they want to know! You win $1k or bet 1k they want to know who the hell you are and put it down to possible money laundering! You win at the Casino and they want to know who you are FFS! You form a trust and they want to know every minute detail avout everyone and everything! It is just a load of BS and it is high time we stood up to these control freaks and tell them to stop meddling in our daily lives! And yet these same Communists can give away taxpayers money to anywhere they want without questions asked.
  17. Stand corrected, but we both probably know the relationship, and the point being made, was going off an interview Do you have an opinion on the situation?
  18. Says it all really doesnt it? The horse was sore from the time the barrier pulled away you could tell in its action! Dont want to castigate the young driver at all, but seriously how could you not tell that the horse was not hurting badly? Not sure what investigation is required really, and what it is going to do? I believe the driver’s mother is a vet, and I think the driver is studying to become a vet maybe wrong so, it is really a but odd that the horse was required to run the full distance when people on TV could see the horse was blatantly in pain!
  19. So they must’ve known the horse was sore by the look of it?
  20. Gamma, well done. You add a lot of humour to this site. Very witty indeed.
  21. Why wouldnt they just say not met reserve? Anyway, if someone has bought it for $3k I would be betting that they could’ve spent it more wisely! That horse was broken down unfortunately. Time for retirement for the very tough Mogul.
  22. Watched on Trackside today the last race at Addington. Now I am no vet and have never driven a harness horse in a race but to my eye a horse ran the whole race and appeared to be very sore going by its pacing action throughout! The horse was Mogul, a warrior of a horse who I would say by its pacing action has run its last race! Not my horse so, do not pay the training bills, but personally believe the driver should have pulled the horse up rather than let it run in pain for the whole 1950metres. Surely the driver could feel that there was an issue with the horse today? Watch the replay of race and I would be surprised if anyone thinks the horse ran on sound legs today?
  23. “The Race by GRINS” over rated beat up for the Big Boys! Do most punters really give a toss about the race? All it is is money shuffling and is more money laundering than someone collecting $1k! I hope the authorities asked all the correct questions of the slot holders as to where they got the money from to buy the slots????
  24. Gamma, fields are far too even on Premier Meetings to offload to make a profit. If you are doing it for a bit of fun then fair enough to have ago!
  25. I agree that there are punters and enthusiasts giving it away, due to the current economic climate. Personally not that hard to make good money if you put the time and effort in, however you are correct they do make it harder than it used to be due to restrictions and the blatantly BS anti money laundering $1k limit!!!!! These blatantly stupid policies that the NZ TAB have enforced is one of the major reasons they are having to outsource to this Entain outfit! Seriously the NZ TAB decision makers are deluded if they believe that their policies that they brought in are logical and to ensure that harness racing in NZ had a bright future! Certainly the jury is out about this Entain going the to be the Knight In Shining Armour for the racing industry in Nz, They are only going to be in it for themselves !
