Happy to provide the figures if I can examine the books. Whole trouble whilst examining the books I'd find all the travel, hotel and restaurant "costs" as well. Like to know how much has TAB management spent at a certain viaduct establishment. When you hear the howls of protest during lockdowns it's invariably those whose eating habits are paid by the "firm" or else are able to deduct the cost as an expense from their tax bill. The number one priority of racing media should be give the advertiser value not some sort of driver of turnover. Once racing employs genuine business type people who have grafted to get the sponsor then all the better. From that angle Bruce Sharrock may be OK.

Is the new COO Bruce Sharrock just Moonlighting at NZTR?
The Centaur replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
I've got a hunch. Anyone with half a brain can see that NZTR should be located at Ellerslie racecourse. With Auckland combining with the other clubs now is the time to act. I would say Sharrock has been hired to facilitate that move. -
The point is that Racing had the unique situation of having all media covered. Treating radio in isolation made no sense. No other organization in NZ was in that position. The TAB over paid suits simply had no idea and more importantly no innovative thinking. Their idea of filling in time was air some obscure greyhound race from the backblocks of Australia. There were so many options where radio could have fitted into the mix but no all they cared about was gambling even if the turnover on a race was less than $100. I'll say it again until the pay structure within racing is fixed racing will continue downwards.

Listening numbers yes but more directly adverisers. They seem to be very aggressive rounding up racing industry businesses. Racing once had it all e.g. radio, TV, internet, printed, on track advertising so they could offer package deals and organise campaigns and expos at the track. Still can but when you pay these bozos massive salaries there no incentive to be proactive.

I listened to Peeni Henare (asoc health minister) on Maori Radio this morning. Now I quite often listen to Maori radio because you get news segments in straight English and not the annoying radio NZ breakouts into Maori every few minutes on morning or midday report. What I heard from Peeni was shocking. The discussion was about funding the new Labour "Maori Health" settup. He admitted that ongoing funding would be the problem. The intention is to take out of the existing health budget about 25% and put it into these new ventures. The intention is to settup Maori "well being" centres and after those then move into the existing health structure to make them Maori focused. Taking funding away from the already under funded system means many people victims of the wealth gap won't receive any health care at all. Thats the only logical conclusion. I might add that in the seven decades on this planet I have never witnessed any discrimination against Maori. The sometimes corrupt legal system affects all types of people.

Rob Campbell from chairman Sky City to chairman Health Authority. One can quite rightly argue that Sky City gambling isn't exactly conducive to good health. I like gambling on horses but that doesn't mean I would support someone like Dean McKenzie running health. It will be interesting watching two ambulances racing around the racetrack. One ambulance for Maori jockeys and another for Pakeha. This new Health scheme from Labour is racially discriminatory, divisive, unneeded and inefficient. From a long time Labour voter I can't now support them. Sure there are areas that Maori health can be targeted but this is all about prioritising along with creating duplication of jobs.

Why is it that the name Grant Peters rings some sort of bell when it comes to photography. Anyone know? my memory is getting bit suspect.
-
You are horribly wrong. There is a huge backlash against Labour with regard separate health systems, separate this and that and as an example the control over the media with the $50m grant for employing only Maori and running Maori promotional programs. The policy of increasing only Maori welfare is creating a huge wealth gap and those disadvantaged as a protest will vote National. Most people have Maori friends mates etc and vice versa so don't want to be seen being active but the silent majority will certainly come out on election day. Mark my words.

Clearly SENZ seem to far more aggressive chasing the advertising dollar. Don't know if I could apply under the Information Act to obtain TAB's spending with SENZ including the bonus giveaways but listening to the NZTR and TAB promos there must be a considerable amount spent even allowing for contra deals. Plus many racing businesses e.g. studs have been rounded up for advertising. The point is that the cost to TAB + NZTR is now far greater than maintaining a loss in radio previously.

Several US ports don't allow nuclear vessels into their ports as well.

Covid flyers have interesting Horse Connection
The Centaur replied to Gospel of Judas's topic in Covid-19 and Racing
Which is when? I've seen some disturbing instances lawyers getting back in with just a tap on the bum. I've got a longstanding grievances against a bunch of lawyers who robbed me of hundreds of thousands dollars. I've been meaning to put a web site to explain it all. Then again given the lengths they went to muzzle me the site would have to be bomb proof. -

Lets compare Jamie Kah with the Wanaka couple. All flouted similar laws. Kah potentially could lose millions long term courtesy Victorian Racing Tribunal. Short term she had some great mounts lined up e.g. Incentivise. So what is the Law Society doing to penalise Hannah Rawnsley. AS far as I can see nothing. Rawnsley's offending is far worse as she used a document for an improper purpose and the degree of premeditation far greater. The minimum they can do is suspend her legal license for say 6 months. -
Didn't MP base himself in Victoria and train from there for a season or two. I distinctly remember a quote in the press when he got back that even after training many hundreds of winners in NZ it wasn't until training in OZ he learnt all about feeding.

Doesn't matter where he is he fails - Cameron George
The Centaur replied to Mark D's topic in Galloping Chat
Just been gobsmacked at Cameron Georges rise into CEO ranks. When he came from Australia to be part of RIU there seemed little track record in the industry. His linkedin page shows only four years college education. No university or tertiary qualifications. Then by obviously being matey with some on the ARC board he becomes CEO Auckland Racing Club and takes real estate courses. Soon after CEO Warriors. All this time with little in the public arena of what his ideas or management skills if any are. Then to top it all off the new board members on NZTR pleading for him to be Chairman NZTR whilst not even residing in the country. Now I must be wrong surely the guy is some sort of genius. Surely!!! Just that no one has explained to me in simple terms just what the genius entails. -
If you are a licensed racing person don't call Cindy a mole!

There is a person in NZ thankfully not residing on this forum who in comparison would have got several lifetime bans.- 1 reply

As for betting I think there should be some rationality in the rules. Therefore a limit placed on jockeys, trainers, jockey agents and officials such as handicappers. Instead of zero for e.g. jockeys have a simple limit also for officials. In this day and age a judge is hardly going to change the result of the race if he had 10 each way on the runner up. In the case of a presenter its a bit like a share trading journalist. Buy shares, heavily promote the shares then sell them for a profit.

Listening to Michael Guerin can be rather stressful. Ok he seems to have ditched his diction tutor but his oh so "knowledgeable" punting info leaves lot to be desired. The Foxbridge was the first WFA for the season with disjointed preps. Yet Guerin relayed to all it was a 2 horse race. His so called "speed map" totally overrated and lacked logic for this time of year. Yet when it came to his own money he informed us he had $1000 a place at 7:1 early in the week on The Chosen One. Now did he elaborate on this? No. Had he spoken to Andrew Forsman ? We don't know. Its the same with Emily. How often do we hear what Opie has said. And previously when Karyn was on board did we ever know exactly what Te Akau was thinking.

Racing Today 1 September 2021 - 2 NZ and 5 OZ meetings.

I was starting to enjoy the days offering until the greyhounds jumped in. -
Curious, If the bar became a place of interest prior to your posting the article (24Aug) how come it only appeared on the official list yesterday. Something doesn't smell right. Maybe Molloy went to lawyers to stymy getting on the list.

The viaduct is deadly. It intersects train, bus, ferry and auto transients. Most businesses there creamed windfalls because of the government subsidy of Americas Cup. How many repayed the wage subsidy that kept them earning millions. Hardly surprising the abusers bar is caught up in the outbreak. All these downtown outfits need to be closed for at least a year. One case there can spread overnight to all parts of Auckland.

Congrats Bernard - another one bites the dust
The Centaur replied to Reefton's topic in Galloping Chat
What a huge coincidence they are in the same building. Have board members that are simultaneously on the both. Share a lot of the facilities. Constantly meet. You are right on one thing. The rubber stamp. -
Ridiculous fine. $100 would have been fair. Wayback when I did stint as owner/trainer there was a seven day rule. 3 days before the race my vet applied some ointment on a slightly infected fetlock. Being an honest sort of guy I reported the treatment as per the 7 day rule. To my dismay on the morning of the race they scratched my horse and fined me $30. Apparently unbeknown to the vet and me the withholding period had changed. After that I learned the hard way it doesn't pay to be "honest".

Well finally the Channel X moderator has admitted the harmful, disgusting and vindictive posts made by Leo Molloy over the years by deleting them. You have to love the latest post replying to "Insider". Insider and Molloy go back long ways which must give rise to wonder what impairment substance he is on. Many nutcases get on the ballot for Mayor etc. This is another one.
