  1. This crisis even if solved soon will revolutionize many ways people work. New Zealand has so many natural advantages it is stupid piling so much money into central Auckland. Example. The convention centre. i.e. the burnt out centre. Why would you come from high density areas like Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, etc etc and be holed up in middle of Auckland. Also why billions spent on the rail tunnel when a kilometre or two walking to work would do wonders for the heart. Already estimated $5billion probably $8billion when finished. Racing does not need any offices in Petone of all places. There are plenty racecourses for a head office e.g. Ellerslie and new management techniques using technology for mobility.
  2. With your experience setting up quickly forum websites I really think your services should be taken up by NZTR, HRNZ, GRC or RITA Now is the time industry participants must be communicating and floating ideas. Racing management won't go out to forums because they fear any criticism of themselves so if they have control then so be it. The main thing there has to be open two way communication.
  3. When I was in hospital for several weeks knocked out for some I was surprised at the number of overseas patients particularly from Asia. Staff told me it was significant boost to finances otherwise the tax payer would be paying far more. I would say many of those coming back only because of the better, cheaper accessible health service.
  4. The yearling full brother to Verry Elleegant surely must be a steal of the year at $140,000 purchased by Bob Peters Western Australia, Looked magnificent albeit on the TV but I make a prediction it will be the best horse in WA in a couple of years. Pity WA don't get many wet tracks however. Don't think it can do worse than the $2.2M horse running at Wyong. They finally moved to Plan C and gelded the horse. Didn't help still ran last in a maiden.
  5. What a load of rubbish above. The situation is extremely serious. Don't forget that due to the nature of the problem the health system cannot perform as it normally would. A good proportion of the time safeguarding health workers is the focus. No health worker should be put at risk. Bed capacity in hospitals means nothing if there are limits on how close and in what numbers patients can be housed. Even travelling in an Ambulance how do we know the virus doesn't remain in the vehicle. Look up the meaning for exponential growth.
  6. Most people who go to a university do so to educate themselves on what they feel most passionate about and will launch or further their careers. Well Dean McKenzie did so in Sports Management. So the self appointed genius on the other racing forum went about lobbying his yes men who invariably can make tax deductions for their eating and drinking habits to install McKenzie as racing's bright hope in Wellington. Never thought "the genius" was into sports in such a big way.
  7. Doubt your high school daughter would have got a pass writing that screed. What has 9/11 got to do with it. The only useful information in that pathetic rubbish is the COVID helpline number. Oh as well there is the bit on esports WOW!!!
  8. The farmer with teenage kids is ideally placed to keep horses going. Perhaps a marketing area for NZTR to pursue. Even get new families started in racing with retired trainers acting as advisers on the phone.
  9. Whats the difference between being in a stable or a paddock. Someone still needs to care for them. Some stables will be suitable to carry on others not. Depends if the staff can be kept in a locked down cluster. If stable rely on help that comes and goes then not suitable. For an owner who perhaps is looking to sell or discover the ability then the business of training still exists.
  10. Please explain to the Non knowlegible.
  11. You may have a point but training a racehorse and racing doesn't really mean much close interaction even for services down the track. Could well be that the people involved will now get into situations with more interaction. There are going to be numerous anomalies.
  12. Racing did not have to lockdown straight away. Instead a planned lockdown from 1 June would have been best solution. Its clear that RITA and NZTR made no effort to counter Jacinda Ardern's belief that anything UK does then NZ must do. Chief Stipe, This might be good time to send out invites to key managers of racing to participate in forum discussions.
  13. Anyone who follows the nuances of these commentators would have noticed something ironical. Initially Tom was the pupil and unfortunately followed Marks stop start style. Via Singapore and Hong Kong Tom transitioned to a more fluent style. Now it seems Mark is following Tom's style.
  14. The attendances may be poor but the facilities are not. Right now the facilities should be contracted to the government for use as isolation centres, schools or whatever. For example as a caravan park.
  15. Avondale which hosts the Sunday Markets may be in trouble. However some out of the square thinking could solve the problem. Actually nothing wrong with the track or facilities.
  16. I don't know which forum but I raised the problem of auditing the TAB with all these so called promotions. I actually worked for the firm auditing the Wellington Racing Club (early seventies) and remember going through all the unclaimed tickets to see if someone from within was absconding with the winnings. That sounds oh so simple to what must be the case now. This whole fixed odds era is riddled with problems.
  17. That may be true but so many businesses have failed to insulate against any downturn. I vividly remember the empty restaurants in the early nineties where there was only a fraction of the number that exist now and wondered what would happen if there was just a slight hiccup. Already I'm seeing shuttered up shops and for lease signs. This is going to get pretty ugly unless a miracle vaccine comes along.
  18. This time last year I quite enjoyed the comp on here. One of only a few I've entered. PJ i.e Peter Jenkins has disappeared of the face of the earth and wasn't it Maria who did a power of work doing the results. I'm prepared to write a short routine to process the results if there is demand. So whats happening?
  19. One should be careful about sub judice. After all two wrongs don't make a right. The way I remember events Leo Molloy didn't just put up a link or just the name. He put up a photo of the murderer as well. I was surprised the post stayed up for long even after other people commented it was against the law. There is another issue. If a social media moderator doesn't remove an illegal posting then what is the liability? A smart prosecutor will subpoena internet records if a moderator did access the site. As Molloy's posting was visible for at least 12 hours one could suspect that was the case.
  20. H'mm don't know if they will let you on the jury Chief. They tell me the inmates at Pareparemo hoping those Bluff Oysters are shared out.
  21. Racing is worse than that. Most punters have less knowledge than bookies then multiplying their disadvantage over several reinvested races over the day the net takeout far exceeds 55%.
  22. Winning a national premiership looks great on a CV for Asian racing. Does anyone know how the allowance system works in Australia? If he has the premiership wrapped up come June/July I am sure Waller will be begging for him to go to Aussie if he can claim.
  23. There may be something to do with Trackside automatically taking only one channel feed from Australia. That means where there is a split there is no one at studio to switch to the other channel. Can't understand the logic taking all these USA, Korean and Japanese races.
  24. Yes I agree lobby to change the law. However in some cases evidence is suppressed and leaking information is the only way to get some justice. Evidence in the Grace Mullane case was not suppressed and justice was running its course. Wikileaks although acting in violation of some countries laws is acting to seek justice and that would appear the difference. Even so vote for "prick of the month" goes to Scott Morrison. Off on overseas vacation whilst Australia burns.
  25. This guy is setting racing in NZ alight. The Tapanui Cup drew as good a handicap field one could expect. It also produced a classic ride. Shades of Lance O'Sullivan and Moreira. Disgrace how NZ Racing and Trackside can't make these races special. Instead straight after the race TV off to the greyhounds to watch a dog having a shi?.
