  1. awesome..epic mate...got any pix you can post?
  2. Curious to know the circumstances of your meeting with Secretariat ...
  3. yes, good point! Still worth a truckload more now though. Thanks for posting the info over the last week or two, CS, about the Belmont ...ever since rediscovering TV footage of Secretariat's win on YouTube I've made a point of following quests for the Triple Crown ...and had an unexpected week in Kentucky in May 2013..(Orb's Derby) … saw Secretariat's grave and the statue of him at Churchill Downs.. amazingly there's been two more TC champions after the decades of waiting.
  4. wonder how they're feeling right now! Esp the owners who quit him for 50,000 GNS as a yearling
  5. I'm guessing Stipe but perhaps Michael Wallace is the connection...would like to know. In the denouement of the Belmont, it crossed my mind that Justify is a lot like Secretariat in looks...and I spared a though for the recently departed Bill Nack, RIP, who didn't get to see the 13th Triple Crown winner seal the deal.
  6. Congratulations to you all, Ashley ..I'm not sure which BOAYers are in the syndicate but well done, everyone. Horse looks a good stayer in the making.
  7. It's how quickly he learns from these mistakes that will determine how far he goes in this profession ..it is not for the faint-hearted. Hopefully AS and NG Harris will have his over-confidence sorted. It's a fine line between being sure of yourself and up yourself. So let's be a little forgiving - he is just getting started and is clearly a talented rider. On a different but perhaps related note ...Sam Collett ahsnt copped a suspension since June last year and has ridden in over 1000 races!
  8. Brilliant win by Justify, had it all his own way in front I thought but a deserved TC winner.. .as a complete aside, Secretariat woulda kicked him by about 20 lengths based on the time posted! (2:24 vs 2:28:18)
  9. Zanyetta streeting them at Te Rapa was the highlight for me. She only broke maidens a year ago, looks to have a nice turn of foot and tries her best. I note a smart debutante 2yo filly at Newcastle yesterday called Smart Melody, ran 900m in 52 seconds flat and won by 5 lengths ..on a heavy track ..
  10. CORRECTING MYSELF BFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES.. Justify has Sexcretariat on both sides via Storm Cat (male line) and A P Indy female side) but 5 and 6 generations The one I mentioned with A P Indy on both sides closer up is Hofburg.
  11. With the Belmont each year I have fun looking through the pedigrees to see which runners have Secretariat blood. This year half the field has got at least two doses of Secretariat in their first five generations..and one runner has 3 !! The hotpot has A P Indy (whose damsire is Secretariat) on both sides; My gut feeling is that Justify will come unstuck Sunday, esp if it is wet. I don't want him to (come unstuck) but the odds are against him and I didnt like the way he closed off the Preakness.
  12. do you think the decent price for O'Rachael also reflects that she was 3rd in a Gp 1 as a 2yo ?
  13. at least he has a back-up camel, so all is not hopeless for the Wolfman
  14. Taazi you da man..couldn't have said it better mself (and I'd have probably taken longer!!)
  15. Having posted last night my concern that BOAY is 'taking the bait' by getting into endless argument over RC, I note that there are a truckload of posts on this thread today about ... RC. Is no-one listening? PLEASE ...either ban the subject or move it to a different part of the site (give it its own if you like, and let the bitter and twisted do battle without ruining this site for me!). This is a results thread for a Comp...
  16. Having read the last page on this thread, I have something to say..so listen up! I am on this site precisely because I didn't enjoy the stupid name-calling/insulting/offensive behavior of various posters. I simply want to have some fun, learn, comment and interact with lovers of thoroughbred racing/breeding. If this site falls into the trap of responding to bait deliberately sent out by supporters of the rival site, this site will be lowering its standards and undoing all the good work building it up over the last few weeks (not to mention the planning beforehand). IMHO, BOAY controllers, whoever you are, whatever your opinions on RC and its followers, please do the sensible thing. Ignore the nonsense. Don't take the bait. Stick to the good stuff and enjoy the reaction you get from members. And that's all I have to say about that!
  17. cheers for that barryb
  18. looking ahead, racing scheduled for Te Rapa on Saturday...rain expected every day through Wednesday..I wonder if the TAB will offer a market on abandonment?
  19. cheers for that ... i'm picking Justify to come unstuck over the extra trip
  20. Dargaville, Castlepoint, Hokitika and Stewart Island ...??
  21. cheers mate... a strong staying type totally undone by the dawdling pace for the first 1600... he'll keep til next time on that big roomy track on a Heavy 10 or worse!
  22. thanks for the heads-up on that
  23. Not sure why I'm doing this, but I have very strong feeling that the bet of the day tomorrow at Riccarton in St Andrews Masonic M6 R7 No 8 Drawn 1 T Moseley aboard FF $6.80 and $2.30 Heavy 11 -likes Riccarton, 3rd up in new prep..won 3rd up last season (June), has won twice over this distance (2000m). Gets back but should go very well.
  24. Curious to know if: any other trainers' horse were tested for alkalinizing agents on the same day - ie is it a routine test (and Mr Pike got caught stuffing up in a clearly minor way)? Did Mr Pike know the rules that applied in Australia - having campaigned in Queensland before, including at the same carnival last year? Who/what caused the Ozzie stewards to test these horses for this? Random, or pre-ordained?
  25. RIP, Peter. We have a permanent reminder of you and your champion horse at Ellerslie
