Depends who tells i suppose. Lets put it this way, if a race has been set up, its hardly only a few involved is there. Be a wider group betting, so lets see what info cops have. No doubt they will be looking at betting from all agencies in aus as well, could take a while. Could be the best thing that ever happens to canterbury harness
I see Brent Wall has appeared in court, pleaded not guilty, as i am sure others will too.
Looking into Sportscaster race, 22nd May. The race i posted, which shows driver nearly falling out of cart looking for fav to come around.
Jess,
I have heard nothing about the TB man, so Wont comment on that.
But as we have seen around the world, many want to win while gambling at all cost. Throw in a truckload of drugs, young mates that think they are bullet proof, and this is what you get.
Will be interesting to see who spreads the beans from those arrested. I dont think they should take the brunt of it, tell the truth.
Dave Mcarthy wrote an article about early nz racing. Saying how the early tote staff closed races late, allowing mates to win money. Also tales of dividends being smaller than what they should be, all types of things.
Not been to hornby club for years, suppose mainly due to not betting much with tab anymore.
What about these 2 pics of tote windows at riccarton & addington.
Something about that old tote building at addington, warm summer night, walking to have a bet, then a wee walk back to the track once reons voice kicked in. I love using a device, but that tote was great.
Some great tales here of setting up a race, im sure most of us could tell some great stories,
But really it just shows how crooked harness is, we have always known some punters, depending on who they were related to, or who their mates were, had an advantage over others when it comes to punting.
Should have stopped it years ago, i think its just natural for some in the game to cheat
I dont want to do Garrick out of a job, but i have done my own digging.
Amazing who has been interviewed, i have names but wont mention, but it is across the board in the harness game.
Will say this, they all seem to be mates of mates, relations or tied up in other ways. I suppose this was always going to be a problem for canterbury with such a close knit group.
