Sadly, this thread will just continue down this road. Curious having a go at Thomas regarding his views on punting. Mardigras & barry will also get involved, which makes for a bloody boring, but familiar feel to it. Just post your tips everybody, forget about the arguing, that’s what was asked in the first place.

I first went to riccarton in the early 80s, Kerr stable were one of my favs. Horses always looked fantastic. I remember gaffa and clansman, but there were others, anyone name them?

Good story, early on she looked like an honest trotter that would win a few, especially after running so many 2nds early on. Was more of a sprinter type early on, but I remember this race, and was surprised she won and was not run down. Maybe the vet trainer , was ahead of the times ?

Wasn’t a motukarara trainer involved in a shooting out that way in the 80s /90s? John Sheenan or something, somebody will remember

Had handy type called Big Idea in the 80s. His daughter Marie Price , didn’t she have good trotter So Long Eden? Thought she trained and drove it early on, but I could be wrong

Surely horses in other stalls would have tried a little harder when time to race ?. Not saying I don’t believe this, but I’m hoping it’s just in your imagination and you’ve recently been watching some trashy horse horror

How many members now chief. You can use same formula as rc if you want. Add up all members, multiply by 1000, then reduce by 20%. Good enough for them, good enough for us

A horse pulling extra weight from a standing start would be a disadvantage , but once going at speed, in some ways extra weight is an advantage on hard surface. Try stopping trailer when attaching to tow ball, loaded & unloaded. Totally different from a galloper that carries weight to pulling sulky

Thought I had read the same Double R. Pretty sure some brainy but bored professor came up with some sort of info. I always thought the lighter the better too, but maybe not the case

Brodie, Frees Best, Hondos Away, Best dream , never won a race with any other driver than Cowie, so Brodie might not be on the money on that one ?. Also trained Kahuna Pele later on, he drive that in all his wins when he trained it

This has been mentioned before. I thought that on a grit track, little difference between heavy and light drivers. Thought Eddie had good record driving, in fact can’t remember others driving the horses you mentioned , apart from junior drivers etc
