TAB For Ever Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Yes possums so much happening in Auckland this weekend.....but with so much on and the cone boys never resting , you need to add a bit of travel time. Not only is NZ's most impressive ,amazing race day happening at NZ's only International racecourse but there is a ton of other stuff on too to suit all budgets.....much of it free too! And something for everyone so the missus or family has NO reason to keep you away from Champions Day , which gotta be the greatest day ever ..and only 8 min drive from CBD. Get up up here on Friday , Southerners can leave their raincoats and winter woolies behind. Auckland Arts Festival getting into full swing....SIX the Musical is 90 min great entertainment while Tammy Neilson among many others has shows on ,plus so much live music around the City ,much of it free. Friday night cross code Racing fans can attend Alexandra Park ,no bookings necessary..free parking ,free race book and free water supplied ! A few mins away the Blues Rugby team will be trying to show why they the current Super Champs. Come Saturday and so much on ...add travel time ..the Pasifica Festival usually huge and these events go into Sunday. For the kids ,there plenty happening.....a great Zoo and a some kids stuff at the races too....kids karts on display at trots , and free entertainment at Champions Day. The missus needs to enter the Fashion event while Dad joins the BGP room and competes in free picking Comp with huge cash prizes . Free shoe shine and comfortable seating wherever you on course. The afterparty at Ellerslie gonna be something special ! Great music and DJ's. If this South Islander can enjoy it you can too....gumboots and jandals OK in public stand with great viewing but if you want to mix in with the Jaffas try to bring a little decorum....and leave the envy and cynicism at the gates. Warning..Parking at a premium ,and bet sensibly ! 1 Quote

Huey Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Agree I think it will be huge at Ellerslie Saturday, can't wait for the wall to wall coverage and I've set on Hankee Alpha and Penman to Quinella the race that stops a "sales complex!" 1 Quote

The TV Ad says there will be 14 in the The Raffle Race which is clearly a false claim and makes our industry look stupid. Also, will the cost of this be worth it? Quote

I suppose the only way we will know if the cost is worth it will be if a big crowd turns up for the next Ellerslie meeting about a month after this one. 1 Quote

It only looks stupid to those who are already hooked in racing. 34 minutes ago, Bloke said: Also, will the cost of this be worth it? Ask the Slot Holders who have put the money up. The rest is marketing which the industry desperately needs. Quote

Why would that be the only measure of success? There are numerous others that are more relevant. Quote

No problem with marketing but at least they can be honest ("14 Champions" is just more hyperbole). Reminds me of Weaver, The Auckland Cup run on a Wednesday according to him was going to be "The Race That Stopped Two Nations" 2 Quote
SLB2.0 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I think Saturday will be one of the bigger turnover days of the year (Australian racing included) - and if you fancy backing No.1 runners, Ellerslie could be profitable. 1 Quote

I tend to agree. They may not make a profit but turnover will be well up coupled with some great racing from Flemington. 1 Quote
mikeynz Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Think TAB should get a job promoting Auckland but today we will see where racing fits into the social fabric. Quote
The Centaur Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Having listened to the army of presenters radio/tv/web I get it..... "It's a great day" perhaps they could now relate something usefull. Quote
SLB2.0 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Your next aim is to translate the first five words of every Rodley sentence. I get that he's "excited" but he's a bumbling mess atm. 1 Quote
