NZ Derby Turnover $867K Industry funding contribution $1000000?

Am I thick or does something not add up here?

You are talking TURNOVER not REVENUE!  How much did Reefton or the Pokies contribute to stakes?

Walked into this one.  I am talking turnover of course.  Reefton got in funding about $105k (I think) from a turnover(I think) of about $700,000 or about 15% (still far too high).  Ellerslie probably got $1.5m on a Turnover of (say - I don't know for sure) $2.5m or 66.66% - it just cannot be sustained - even if it was $3m T/O it was still about 50%.

But fear not - David Ellis assures us stakes will double next season so there must be a magic wand somewhere

Why do you continue this stupidity of highlighting 'one off once a year' meetings...

..where the yocal locals turn up once a year...and the rest of the Hoi polloi around the country turn up to watch the barn dance?

If Reefton raced every 2 weeks??  Yea that

Btw Ellis and Vella Fella are joined at the hip and lip...

Vella is on the Mak Commitee and he's promised Davo Utopia....just watch

Reeftons turnover was $542k

Ellerslies was a touch over $4m

From the ARC annual report for last season ...

The Club itself contributed in excess of $1,000,000 of additional stakes for races run at Ellerslie, over and above that which is provided by the national stakes funding policy.

I think you will find that is an agreement between and NZTR and NZB regarding funding. Would be a similar situation if it was run at Te Rapa, Counties or Avondale.

Also it is called the Karaka Millions, but since you mention Magic Millions the NZTR/NZB relationship would be similar to the Racing Queensland/Magic Millions Sales Company relationship with the meeting held at Gold Coast Turf Club

A touch over $4m?  Where did you get that info from?  And $1,000,000 spread over 25 racedays is eff all.  And you do not include the oncourse from Reefton.  And even if it was $4m the NZTR probably put up $1.3m for the days racing so it is still almost 33% of the total turnover which is vastly vastly more percentage wise than Reefton.

No chance of it being run at Avondale, Auckland has taken  their races ie. The Avondale Cup and Concorde etc. The Board of NZTR are mugs for handing out $500k to a race that pulls horses away from group races.

x two!

I think it is $250k each isn't it?  But when I think about it I would bet most of the ARC's $1m it puts into stakes will be to prop up KM night purses.

Was chatting to a Waikato-based trainer just this week..he tells me that Bernard is still trotting out the 'close the tracks' line.

There is a real absence of quantitative evidence as to how much - in real terms - is going to be realised by this process.

If we could all see,  we may - just possibly - grudgingly accept that there is no choice.

But there aren't any such figures for us all to digest,  or none that I have seen,  so .....

You can't or don't produce the data when it doesn't support your argument .
