Rusty
Flicked on the telly this afternoon and saw a bit of the dogs running around at Manukau. Although I totally despise greyhound racing and think it should be banned, I observed something is different. So I thought I would turn to the good, intelligent folk within this forum (the trots, not the dogs), to maybe answer a small question on those God awful dishlickers that have returned to racing recently. The dogs go past the finish, but the camera stops at the finish line, and doesn't follow the dogs pull up post race, all trying to get their snouts into the fluffy lure. Viewers at home can't see their respective handlers retrieve their mutt from the lure post race. This is new... So what would be a fair guess as to why this is happening? The dogs get shoved into their starting box pre-race by their handler, and it looks like two runners at a time. You know, because this keeps the distance between each handler, and is a good look with the current social distancing requirements. So what is happening post race? Probably the handler whistles out to their puppy and it responds immediately and returns to its handler. One by one, all keeping their distance from eachother. I hope the greyhound outfit is not potentially letting the racing industry down, post race... I have every confidence in them and surely there is nothing to see here... so much nothing to see, that the camera operator oncourse agrees, there is nothing to see post race. At least not the dogs being retrieved from the lure anyway. I'm missing the Sunday harness meetings that is for sure. Can fully trust the horse people to do the right thing. No tricky camera angles required.

They don't want you to see what is really happening. In this case, the handlers breaking all sorts of social distancing rules by getting there dogs. Would they be wearing masks etc? If they are just doing what they did before and getting there dogs then it just shows the greyhound leaders are putting themselves first and trying to get some gambling money. Unless, of course, someone has seen what was happening and can speak against this. 46 minutes ago, Rusty said: I'm missing the Sunday harness meetings Not long to go.
Yankiwi
That'll be exactly what's going on. Pre Covid-19 lockdown. The road just outside the track is fully accessible without being "oncourse" and would surely make some interesting viewing.

Ban greyhound racing. Get rid of them. We don't need them.

And not wearing them post-race. So unless they are putting them on to retrieve their dogs, then taking the masks off again to lead them back post-race, surely some questions have to be asked? the galah
Yes,its all a load of bullocks. Just as they don't show falls in the after race replays. Just as happy says they don't show jumpers falling. A one point they cut out the falls of jumpers in the replays shown a week later on trackside..They would cut out 200m of some jumping races, sometimes more depending on how many falls. Same as horses at harness or gallops that fall, not allowed to show that either in replays immediately after race.. We see it in real time, but because a replay is not shown it somehow didn't happen. Its pc gone totally mad. The point is if their is no transparency, you believe they must be hiding something they don't want you to see.

Happy Sunrise
I can answer. I still imagine they don't show it because it must be hard to do. Again, fair enough, I jumped the gun and went too far. Apologies. no excuses.
Mehe
Happy in every race they have had with the dogs there has been breaches and this wont stop there are people in the game that think they are above all laws

Someone pointing out they are not showing the lure pick ups seems reasonable. I never said i expected there to be social distancing at the lure. As happy has pointed out we all knew there would have been some pre approved rules to abide by.So given what happy has posted, why not show the lure pick ups? Same stupid reason they don't show the things i referred to earlier. Not just a greyhound thing. 16 minutes ago, $ BILL said: The same way you and your buddies entertain yourselves. Brodie
The chances of anyone transferring Covid19 to some other catcher is very small. Time NZ got on with life and stop worrying about what others are doing. If you are that scared of catching any virus, then stay at home and never come out. Reality is that the decision to lockdown as long as this is going to kill a damn site more people than greyhound people catching their greyhounds. When Harness comes back Are all the drivers going to be two metres apart in a race?? No they aren’t because it is not possible!!! I know plenty will have a crack at the Brodster, but FFS why are so many so scared of something that has not killed a single person With reasonable health in NZ????
