I, like most of you, love the Canterbury Grass harness racing.
But what is happening at Methven, it never used to be a leaders track?
If you do not settle handy, your goneburger? Odd few have come from midfield, but racing is strange.

Luckily Wedderburn harness on,

I spent hours watching videos and studying the form for methven to try and snag the quaddie , You are right just like most southern racing at the moment you gotta be handy!!! or your F####D!

No use flying home for 4th or 5th. Could never of had president pat or cabelle beach on form.

But that trot at addington on friday, what a joke

They all sat back and look what happened!

Totally agree, studying form is hard. In the past, a good horse, that races well on the grass, would be a good bet.
Today, forget grass track stats, as long as you begin well, you were in with a big chance

Can remember some years ago a couple of trainers said the track was never the same after the changes made, and it was effectively a front runners course, shame really, when will they learn to leave well alone.Nice turnover, president pat did slip under my guard after following it over the coast circuit, never mind 12s I thought a little short, but was a average field.

What track do they come from the back if they don't overdo the tempo up front early in the race?

I do have a theory myself that on the grass tracks that have lush grass due to recent rain, that the fence is best because its grass covering is less due to more traffic on the fence, which translates to being faster .

The difference between a good driver and an average driver is the good driver nearly always goes forward, and the average driver nearly always goes back. Of course many of the horses are driven by the trainers who drive to what they view are the limitations of their horses, instead of driving to give them the best possible chance.

Also yesterday the likes of tim williams did not have any drives, and he would have been a go forward driver had he been there.

Actually he did have the 3 drives, making mid race moves on 2 of them.but maybe had he got more we would have seen more moves in the races.

Personally I thought the little green jug was the most exciting race of the weekend and shock horror it was over a mile

Best horse, trainer and driver in the race won.Not sure what driver on Perfect Cut was doing, probably team driving for stablemate that finished 2nd

  • 2 weeks later...

It continues today, first 7 races won by leader or trail horse.
Now, come on. With these constant stats, WTF are drivers doing? They have little chance running home from the back, but why do we have no pressure early? These drivers should be getting handy early, should be speed duels galore, but what happens, drivers settle into line, know the winner a lap out 😴
