Grass track racing

169 nominations for Methven on Sunday. The grass track racing is enormously popular...horse numbers, public support etc. Yet why has the north buried it's grass track circuit, and instead relies on the Cambridge/Alex park tracks with low horse numbers, low public support.? Time to provide that which works .

Couldn't agree more.

One of the real shining lights of the industry at the moment the grass tracks.

To not have anything in the North Island of any great substance is doing a great disservice to the game.

Some of the turnovers last season from grass racing were the better than most premier meetings around the country - especially at places like The Mot, Westport and Methven.

Methven is a top class track, the best grass track. I don't mind betting there but not so keen on other tracks. Rangiora grass a shocker, Motukarara punters' graveyard roughest track surface in Canterbury, crossing dangerous. Geraldine is OK always seems to be clearing racing here. I think the club attracts good horses so the pace is even and the best class horses dominate. Further, afield avoid all coast tracks and Waterlea grass, won't bet at any of them.

I agree with reservations. I do not know why Motukarara is so popular because the track is poor with crossing dangerous. Methven far ahead of rest.

IifThere will be no punters allowed on courses for a long while if you are only allowed 100 under Comrade Arderns rules!

There wont be any room for owners either !

This crap has to stop but no doubt so many will think that we should be very Kind and stay home and be very scared still!

Nothing in the South Island community for over 40 weeks but we can not be bloody complacent!

Had a drive on the Motukarara surface a few years ago and couldn't believe the size of some of the holes in it in some places hope it has been smoothed out since then!

No it is still the same. They need to ban the galloping on the course. It should be kept for trots only like Methven. This would improve the track.

Had a crack on ARAWA park Rotorua once . thought was gunna die, and horse would gallop for sure ! hitting like 50cm+ holes and all. Had to hook foot right through the sulky stirrup so didn't bounce out of cart. truly scary experience really lol. ran 2nd by some miracle after all that , albeit 4 lengths from winner lol.....

Done.

No more galloping and hasn't been for a year at least.
