Chief, Cup day is a huge source of revenue for the Club and also employs hundreds on the day.

Yes the costs will be much reduced but the markup on the hospitality is massive and will leave a huge hole in the income for the year.

Will agree to disagree that it is going to be a major loss to the industry both monetary wise and to increase interest in racing from potential newbies.

Cindy doesn’t care, socialists dont. No argument from me.

cheers

With the Spring Cup, Im curious to see how Bad to the Bone goes against Copy That.

2 out of 3 times they meet, Copy That had lead, while Bad to the Bone was parked.

Be interesting if Bad to The Bone draws & gets away well from a stand to lead or trail & Copy That is left to do the work this time. Bad to the Bone starts fresh up tho.

Re noms Telfers have 5 of 6 in a 3 y-o pace + 4 of 8 in fillies & mares & 4 of 14 in 2 y-o.

Can see Galahs point re could become problematic. Guess they will send more down to South once facilities allow.

Fields are out

Race 10 - 3 y-o race 7 starters ALL Telfers runners. No doubt about it Telfers will run top 4.

Spring Cup - Bad to Bone draws inside Copy That. Could be interesting. Purdon/Phelan have 4 runners in field too.

Hey all,

Just a friendly reminder, there are 2 other threads to discuss Covid on - NZ Cup & Cup Week which has been moved to Covid-19 & racing area. Also another 1 on this main trot thread called NZ Cup & Cup Week - Will it go ahead.

This thread is for Lead up races to Cup and to The Dominion 😄

You could start you own thread about the Sires Stakes. Lets try and keep this 1 to lead up races to the Cup and Dominion.

To get back to topic thought Id do a quick update on Road to Cup.

An interview on radio Senz, Green told Guerin that Copy That will race once only in North next week Spring Cup as long as it gets off the ground, then head South. Approx 4 other Northern hopes have already ventured South & are lining up this week.

Purdon was also interviewed & said that Self Assured is big & round lol going into race this week, but with 2-3 runs under his belt prior Cup by Cup should be screwed down.

Majestic Man is back in the trot as is Sundees Son. So some nice re-matches coming up, as Majestic Man gets a 10 metre advantage.

Who wins the Canty Classic tonight? Gamms you like these races to bet on, who you think? Or anyone?

Self Assured fav even tho an article out today HRNZ saying he's bigger/rounder than normal only 85-90% fit at best & he will be driving him conservatively not looking to mid-race move looking for lead.

Thought this sentence was funny. And shows an example of Guerin speaking his opinion more. "Gifted the front".

"But if and when South Coast Arden moves he is gifted the front, again that seems unlikely, then the dynamic of the race changes enormously".

Surely no driver would hand the lead up to South Coast Arden ...

Morning @Chief Stipe @Brodie @hunterthepunter

What are the 3 of your thoughts on today lead up races to Road to Cup,

Who wins the Trot?

Who wins the Classic?

Or is there a horse you would like to see go well?

On 10/1/2021 at 11:52 AM, Karrotsisback said:

BUT today is a BIG for the connections of these horses. To see how they go. Only approx 5 weeks til the BIG DANCE.

Wonder if Pembroke Playboy will be driven more aggressively after his last race held up ... ?

Gamms might have some selections for us, or maybe Mikey NZ or Honest John. Or maybe even Enteebee might give us an update on how Majestic Man is and how they hope he will go today ?

Tend to agree with you Roman re peak fitness. Its next up so lets see 👀

Ill be keeping an eye on Pembroke Playboy, Robyns Playboy & the Northern horse Kango. Hard for Kango tho off unruly.

Great nite so far for Dunns, chopped up that field. 3 wins already tonight including a quinella in the fast run main Trot tonight.

Agree with Self A best horse in field. However not at peak fitness. So think gives others a chance to win if a horse like Pembroke P gets a good run, then has a chance.

A few are good stand starters too e.g. Classie B, Pembrook P & Robyns Playboy. Will it be foot down at the start to see who can get to the front?

Go Fast GIF

Lets fact check specially for Ludwig and Ranga. Just taking a look back from this thread off the front page only. 10 posts some obviously were pulled from another thread and ALL 10 of mine are on topic. Rangas 4 posts only 1 is. But it was actually a dig at Hunter re Nat winning.

Yeah Kango went nowhere turning in, thought might of run on a bit better, but did do mid race move from unruly.

That was exciting race to watch with moves & no stable driving.

Congrats to connections of South Coast Arden.

Yes indeed Hunter & Dunn is quite the good driver too 👍

We could do a BOAY CUP rank list Top 6 + 1 wildcard going on results after each Road to Cup race.

Based on placings last nite

Pacers

1st = South Coast Arden  + (wildcard Amazing Dream after impressive Oz win)

2nd Pembroke Playboy

3rd Self Assured

4th Classie B

5th Robyns Playboy

6th Kango

Trotters

1st = Sundees Son + Mataderos (wildcard after impressive win)

2nd Chief of Staff

3rd Midnight Dash

4th Woodstone

5th Majestic Man

6th The Dominator

Yeah the pacing one. Just noticed there are LOTS of horses in the race or is there more. 12 isn't it or is that not right?

Taking 1 out would help ease the traffic slightly. Not so bad if they didn't have sulkies but with sulkies it makes it tougher.

For the past 5 years, its been All Stars as trainers, & their usual owners & drivers has been them too, with 1 exclusion Orange.

For past 7 years same thing bar 1 horse 2015 Arden Rooney - Manning trainer/driver which likes like an Aussie with Aussie owners.

For the reason above & that reason ONLY, would this year like too see the Cup go a different trainer/s, driver & owners for 2021. Whoever doesn’t bother me.

Id be rooting for South Coast Arden being a Northern horse BUT same owners & horse is stabled at All Stars & same driver.

Hence following ALL the OTHERS in lead up races that may have a chance, should they get a good trip Cup Day (including Di Caprio) 😃

Page 2, ALL bar 1 were on topic - and that was answering Honest J re his Hot chick he used to follow. Rangas 3 - 1 was a mock , 1 was off topic but topic had been brought up & 1 was talking about the past.

Wait does that mean that Self Assured will start off 10metres? And you are saying maybe Sundees Son will too ... ? Interesting, well then sorry Gamms if that is the case re SA can't see him winning. Would take a lot of team driving & don't think that will happen this year lol.

Even Sundees Son off 10 metres then having to circle that BIG WHOLE FIELD, makes it a lot tougher for him.

Tots down with Gamms here, what a gimme. Both Sundees Son & Self Assured should be off 10 metres

As Green says

“Dont know who it is, that makes these decisions”. Lol what a hoot he is. Check out those face expressions too.
