the galah
I watched the races tonight and racing at auckland isn't a good watch in my opinion. You have races like the main trot where it has all the runners from the same stable, which each week seems to have a different horse driven to win. You had the debacle of a start in the last race where an uncontrollable horse pre start already starting to veer out when they attempted to line up, yet the starter still let them go,wiping out 3 of the 7 chances. A messy old start was how the trackside people described it,as if they didn't want to say it was just a debacle.Maybe the starter had an appointment at the bar which he had to get to before it closed. Then you have the telfer stable with its dominant numbers in small fields. If aucklands the the show case for north island racing then the downhill slide is very evident. The poor betting pools reflect a lack of interest from punters. But the question that keeps bothering me. Why does Auckland need or deserve this million dollar race meeting in February when that is all it can deliver for a regular meeting.?
Gammalite
Sad to read the comments here , as you guys are supposed to be the trotting /harness racing supporters that are left 'alive.' Imagine if we had comment from those that don't give a shit about harness racing lol. No wonder the game is doomed. I'm glad to of had participation owning, training ,driving , when 'Everyone Enjoyed' a night at the Auckland trots. was awesome. The shambles of been reading for a year since the last Cup (with poor it's poor start) has continued on to the poor showing tonight , of any support whatsoever , for the product being churned out these days. Don't think Brodie said even One positive thing all year. Yes I agree with these comments above , in respect of couldn't find a horse you want to bet on. (Hard to find one with the ability and odds you get with VERY ELLEEGANT this week though !!! ) the treasure of Nz . bit of a step back to look at 6 horse Auckland fields lol............. Temporale the class runner racin on the night won it , I spose , so that was good.

Just can not think of any in the North Island at the moment! What we need in NZ is not to have so many sheep and more that actually do speak up and not bow to people who really are nit up to the job. As stated above, the small fields are dominated by basically 2 or 3 stables. Great that they race horses but just shows what a sick position harness racing is in up North. Brodie obviously has his opinions on things and always states this, but will not apologise for being outspoken! What I have discovered over the past year or more Gamma, is just how accepting of mediocrity people are! How so many just accept what they are told to do and do not question!, How does Auckland racing continue to get such high amounts of funding when the product they deliver is poor? Can they trade out of their financial position with their racing? Not on what is currently going on!

Temporale the class runner racin on the night won it , I spose , so that was good. Yes its very sad. But all the indicators are its going to get much worse. We are in november, yet the fields are so small and dominated by multiple runners from the same stable. You have the auckland club losing an absolute fortune on a housing development in times of unreal growth in the value of housing. My opinion is they need to see the writing on the wall and transfer their resources to another area and help north island racing become a more attractive and sustainable industry.Even blind freddy can see that. And why haven't those in the media been honest and why don't they discuss it?It was just a couple of years ago we had mick guerin peddling misinformation about how stakes were on the up and people should have confidence in investing in harness racing,so go out and but a yearling. People like that have big platforms. He has been shown to peddle a false narrative around this club in the past so why does anyone listen to him is a mystery to me. Can't we have someone in the media be honest about where the club is at. Josh dickie is a symptom of aucklands demise. Can't find a place to train a big team because where hes at is being sold, so he moves to Victoria. More numbers reduced. What happens once Lincoln farms, one of the handful of dominant stables numbers wise, sells its land as has been reported it will do? As i've pointed out for the last few years. The rising value of land/racing properties is a major factor in preventing participation everywhere. So they need to invest in setting up accessible training centres in the districts where future racing is to be held and they need to plan and take action now,or apart from the very big stables no one will have anywhere to train from. Shouldn't they be facing reality now and planning for the future now? Edited November 5, 2021 by the galah 2

eljay
Like all failures, the blame must and does lie squarely at the top. Time for change, don't you think! The age old signs are showing clearly - they are holding on - and on, and on an..... The big problem is have they held on too long leaving the club so broken it is past fixing??
