Chief Stipe
RACE COMMENTS Race 1 MATAMATA FUNCTION CENTRE MAIDEN 1600 ADELABELLE (M McNab) - Slow to begin. Knuckled passing the 700 metres. OH TO BE (A Goindasamy) - Began awkwardly. TOMSK (J Riddell) – Raced three wide without cover throughout. ANITASHOCK (T Thornton) - Knuckled passing the 1100 metres with the rider becoming unbalanced. BUCCHERI (V Colgan) - Knuckled near the 550 metres. Following the running of this race a number of riders expressed concerns regarding the inconsistent nature of the track. An inspection group comprising of Jockeys, Trainers, Club officials and Stewards inspected the track with the decision being made to abandon the meeting. Chief Stipe
I see "knuckled" is a new racing term.

KickintheKods
Was there any consideration given by NZTR and the Matamata track manager to transferring the meeting to the AWT at Cambridge in the past 24 hours? If not why not?
Joe Bloggs
Gee, maybe a few owners might contemplate going the 'knuckle' on a few heads, remind me again, how much was the AWT and what was the mo? FFS.

Having a trial at 7.00 am in the morning using best available riders would still give time to transfer to Cambridge with decision at 7.30am.

Jockey's complained the track was inconsistent but how is that dangerous?

You would only have a trial if you thought there was a problem with the track or are you suggesting that there be an early morning trial every track every raceday? Trudy is as hard as last month's leftover bread and Scrooge McVinny wouldn't be in a hurry to lose his riding fees. As Centaur mentions above, a trial this morning would have sorted it out, surely.
Doomed
This might explain why most Southern trainers decided it wasn't worth the risk of spending thousands of dollars to take a horse to Trentham. The chance of a meeting being abandoned and getting offered $250 after spending thousands is just too great. Isn't Matamata supposed to be one of the better tracks?

aquaman
They couldn't manage a skin on a rice pudding. No surprise here, this is whats expected. Just do the punters a favour, and close NZ racing down and beam in real racing from across the ditch. 1

The only comment so far is the surface was inconsistent. Lots of inconsistent tracks around Kumara included.
