I'm picking George Simon either returned a positive RAT test or has Covid.  They'll be keeping a lid on it because of the close contact scenario which could mean a whole lot of people self-isolating.

It is inevitable that a meeting will be "abandoned" as infections increase.  Bernie should get down to Freedom Village in Wellington and join the anti-mandate protest.

Surely if two commentators have gone down (surmising here obviously) the industry has been notified of the close contact situation and appropriate measures put in place? I'm picking this would have a fairly significant impact from an exposure perspective?

I mean the industry is taking the Covid situation very seriously , mandating it, exposing persons who have broken the rules, doing regular testing etc.

Surely if any one of these individuals has the virus an industry wide annoucement should therefore be made? We certainly wouldn't want our double vaxxed industry participants safety comprimised?

That would have seemed a sensible , logical move ...which in NZ racing terms  means it's unlikely to happen. Crazy.

Sorry to hear that Jason.  Always enjoyed your calling and most certainly your brief association with the Reefton Jockey Club.  Another thick witted call by whoever is responsible.  All the best for your future.  Brian Molloy

That's disappointing. Several of our long term commentators are sounding very tired and unoriginal . New blood is needed.

Couldn't agree more, I think as Freda pointed out many aren't probably finding it to be the fun it once was.

It's almost as though we have hired an elite bunch of doom merchants to destroy the industry.

So Aaron White has been a close contact , does that require the industry to notify all participants involved of that exposure?

Odd that Simon had the week off but a commentator had to be found at short notice?

Thankyou Brian and the other people who have posted. The words nean alot

Yes,sadly years of travel and work at the expense of my health and family has amounted to nothing.

Unfortunately, one of the most "tired" callers mentioned is the one who won't go into bat for me and told me to give it away as there will never be a place for me. As soon as my training commitments cease i will be moving to Australia to hopefully call some ants running down a wall or whatever i can find.

Sorry to hear that you are leaving Jason.  I may not have agreed with many of your opinions but I really respected your right to express them and the fact that you did.  Sadly there is a nasty insidious sentiment within racing judiciary and administration that needs to be dealt to.  Time for some leadership and hopefully we will see some in coming months.

All the best and I hope your moving to OZ is fruitful for you.  Certainly Racing there is more robust and not as insular as it is here.

All the best.  There will be a place for you over there for sure and be inspired by Tom who was hardly well treated here but has risen above that to heights none of those who held him back here will ever reach.

Do you , as a club, get any say in who does the commentating, or are you just told to obey orders from above?

Just told.  Although when Reon was in action for our Reefton Clubs he was a fixture.   We would have Reon and the others had whoever. These days we are liable to get anyone.  Las six years for the Jockey Club I think Craig Rail, Matt Cross, Craig Rail, Mark MacNamara, Matt Cross and maybe Jason.  some talent there.
