Auckland Harness- It aint getting any better!

Auckland race on Friday night again and once again it will be another loss making venture for harness in NZ!

6 races carded, 2 have only 7 starters and 3 have only the 6 starters!!!!

Surely this can not continue and needs addressing as it wont get any better with the way things are being run!

Turnover will be poor, oncourse attendance will be low and the racing will be boring you would think?

It will be OK though because we can talk about “THE RACE”!!

HRNZ need to address the elephant in the room that is the cost of racing horses to what you can earn with stakes.

We know that the stakes are going to be reduced and training costs will continue to escalate!

What is HRNZ suits doing about it???

The Fields are huge for once on Thursday why they ain't racing at Alexandra Park instead Cambridge if this meeting was run there I doubt the field sizes would be the same

No Riverton Cup this week, no numbers, Horarata Cup, only 13500 stake, no races for top class pacers other than all in FFA races which usually are canned if Purdon turns up, all the money is now by racing in Oz for 2 or 3 months, this industry sadly is fucked in NZ.

No Southern Supremacy heat at Riverton either.

I believe this has all happened and got worse since they changed to the rating system which is catering for the poor horses and not the good ones which are going overseas as a result.changing to the rating system has stuffed the betting also with a decline in horses that had a chance at 20/1+.it's a 75%decline in horses that had good winning chances at them odds.there is a interview with ken spicer when this changed saying it would not affect the betting bullshit just like the ratings.

Many reasons for harness decline Forbury.

There has been a lack of promotion to get new people into harness racing for decades and is now even harder to attract them.

The existing enthusiasts and punters are turned off by the actions of both the TAB and HRNZ decisions, so much needs to be changed or the industry will continue to suffer!

Does harness racing need a variance of 85 rating points?

Maybe 100 is the top rating and no penalty points for 5 starts after a win, there must be manipulation by some allowing their horse to drop back to get a easier run, it also stops reducing the numbers in the higher grade, stakes should be scaled as well, maybe struggling non winners race for less but winners get a stake increase

The old c1 c3 system was fine, but no relief for genuine struggles also chased them out of the system

One would of thought stablemates help each other but not in Tony Cameron's world god he's a shocking bad overrated driver.faith in Manchester should of bolted the first in but for tony.very good drive by the girl on it.that was my best of the night hate you tony

i backed american muscle myself, but it was clear it couldn't go round the bends without hanging in. I thought given the way his horses gait was on the bends, his only chance was to make a move down the straight with a round to go and then have more control of the line he ran on the final 2 bends, but he didn't. You just knew that by waiting and making his move on the final bend at full speed and with horses moving out inside him that he was a good thing to gallop, and thats what he did. Hes not there to help a stablemate though many seem to think they are. Can't blame him for that..

Must be hard to get some of them trotters to go left handed when used to racing right handed at Alex Park?? They have a lot of gallopers in the trots races, so imagine they must be tricky to keep balanced at full tilt. (never drove a trotter in a race to get the feel of it unfortunately) American Muscle lost ground last time it raced at Waikato in the stewards report in Nov,  trotting roughly around the final bend, and ran 4th.
