Joe Bloggs
It's a real battle, unlike past years, some lovely horses being passed in by pissed off vendors. Sadly they aren't realists, the market is telling them what people are prepared to pay. The Aussies have scored some bargains, the Asian buyers are quiet, Singapore I can understand as it's a basket case in the NZ vein, maybe it might pick up later, but somehow I think we are watching the decline in all it's glory. Ellis has fallen into the Savabeel colts stupor again, his cheaper buys over the years have saved his arse, the Savabeel fillies are worth every cent, once Savabeel goes to the paddock in the sky Karaka will be prime real estate for developers..... Fingers crossed this pass in rate steadies, otherwise this sale will beak all records, for the wrong reasons.....
nomates
I wish DE would leave some horses fro the other NZ trainers , oh that's right the rest don't have any money . The dearth of horses being sold to race here is alarming , i would suggest most bigger owners are spending their bucks to race in Aus , Foresman just paid 600k for a lovely filly , educated here heading for Mt Macedon ?
Joe Bloggs
Ellis seems obsessed with Savabeel, his eyes gloss over and he goes into a trance, have Waikato hypnotised this bloke? As for Forsman, if he builds the VIC stable from Karaka it makes no sense, our bonus schemes are magical, buy BOBS/VOBIS and there are a few QTIS eligible horses in this sale and at these prices its a no-brainer for Oz trainers/Syndicators..... I follow racing Australian racing at the intro level. i.e. maiden races particularly at the provincials. Therefore I use Breednet to get the sale prices. That incudes the online sales where big spenders bail out. Some stallions I completely ignore when it comes winning maiden races. Those stallions incude Savabeel, Smart Missile, Dundeel, Vancouver, etc and looking at adding Almanzour to the list.
Chief Stipe
Maybe Ellis should have bought more at the Gold Coast. He has the best Stakes Winners strike rate of around 17%.

Joe Bloggs
Whats his ROI with his colt, that's my point, I don't mind his fillies at all, but Ellis has a horrible record with his colts, and why he keeps doing it leaves you pondering.......doesn't it?s........does he chose the wrong type of colt? NZ black type has lost it's lustre, it's cache, it's flown the coup years ago.......the pages in the catalogue make you cry to what we saw during those great decades, the poor domestic racing is now showing, next years sales will be even weaker. Why would you stand a new stallion in NZ? Iffraaj, Showcasing, stopped shuttling when they realised the repatriation of funds back to UK/IRE just wasn't worth it.......there will be other casualties, sadly, we don't want to see that, but it's a foregone conclusion, the Kiwi trainers living in hope at Karaka trying to compete with the cashed up ex pats, Aussies and Asians means NZ domestic racing can't keep going, the first to go will be 2yo racing, how many suits from Petone will be seen at Karaka?.......there's always book two......now you just gotta feel for the poor bloody vendors at that sale.....

Joe Bloggs
Now you're just making things up, shame on you.......what's wrong with Adelaide, Perth, Sydney summer, Sydney Easter, MEL Classic, Inglisdigital, and Karaka when you can pick up BOBS/VOBIS/QTIS for a song?......how's that? Tell that to the hundreds over the years that bought into his stallion syndicates, unless you were trying to minimise your tax and didn't give a toss you'd be pretty pissed at the ROI wouldn't you? As a sideline, what's the ROI for Albert Bosma's lot compared to Big Dave ? now that would be interesting.

Ellis probably got a bargain. One of the mares colts will be good, they've had experience with its full brother and would know what to look for. $625k will be a bargain price if he makes a stallion. He buys the stats like most wealthy buyers, purchasing Aus breed stock that seem to mature quicker, cost more and dominate the local product. Savabeels he used to buy so many he couldn't help but get the odd couple of decent ones each season , though many of the expensive ones flops. I thought TA might have been more active on the Proisirs and Per Incanto stock, the Aus buyers certainly were, alwaya good sign.
Huey
Has a Sire gone from hero to zero as quick as Ace High , in demand last year, 4 through the ring this year to date off reasonable reserves and none finding homes.

Huey
Ocean Park had a bit of return to form with some make some decent enough prices which was good to see. I really like the stock of Ribchester , very nice types to me. I thought John Bary bought a smashig filly in Lot 149.

The only others are Fortuna, Go Racing and Marsh. Who has the best results in NZ? Bearing in mind Fortuna use Te Akau as their trainers. nomates
Buying a particular stallion in numbers like Savabeel purely playing the numbers , the colts syndicate is one syndicate of owners working on one winning "The stallion making race 2000gns " or a G1 race of some description , selling that one horse makes the profit for the whole syndicate , get 2 or more and your quids in . Sangster and his mob started this in the 70/80s , buying everything no matter the price and reap the rewards selling as stallions , some at huge prices , some at not so huge , but at the end of the season it was about profit . If nothing works then the tax write off covers the losses .
