Calling Witless Winston and the idiot Journalists
Chief Stipe replied to Reefton's topic in Galloping Chat
You clearly have no understanding of the West Coast. Technically yes Reefton is the "West Coast" but it is closer to Buller (Westport) than Grey (Greymouth) and certainly a long way from Westland (Hokitika) and the Glaciers (South Westland). The distance from Karamea in the North to Haast in the South is greater than the distance between Auckland and Wellington. So when you talk about Tourists "thronging there" they do tend to pass Reefton by or on their way through to other destinations. It is nowhere near the coast. Now you are getting off topic with regard to Government HAVING to cough up infrastructure. The reality is it is a bribe from the Shane Jones slush fund. Basically a bribe to cover the fact that the most naturally resourced province in the country is unable to use those resources thanks to the Greenies and they are killing the remaining industries e.g. the likes of coal production. I don't see any big pine plantations happening either. Geez even Monteiths is now brewed in Auckland. Back to the topic - Reefton as a racecourse - you are providing a counter argument to your initial argument that is you are now saying that Reefton is more popular than Mutta Mutta. So one must conclude that Reefton as a racing venue stays. -
FFS - if I ban one where do I stop? At last count there were at least 7 people who would meet the broad definition of a troll. Geez even dear old Brodie would be gone! The Dogs section would have been closed down ages ago. As I said show me where anyone has breached the BOAY rules and I will deal with it. I'm not getting into a situation where every second person is being moderated because they may say something that disagrees with someone or more importantly disagrees with me. I'll leave that to the other site which many of you have migrated from. Nor will I ban someone because someone who is a legend in their own lunch box (albeit a short one) wants me to aka the other site. To those of you who are so sensitive, even when it comes to emoji's, I suggest you consider ignoring those who offend you. Feel sorry for the troll because they are generally lonely socially inept individuals who are seeking attention. Pity them. Get real! The virtual world isn't real! Imagine what a real live troll stalking you at the pub is like! Here is some advice regarding trolls: Why Do People Troll on the Internet? Every internet troll has a different backstory and therefore different reasons for feeling the need to troll a community or an individual on the internet. They may feel depressed, attention-starved, angry, sad, jealous, narcissistic or some other emotion they may not be entirely conscious of that's influencing their online behavior. What makes trolling so easy is that anyone can do it, and it can be done from a safe, isolated place as opposed to interacting with others in person. Trolls can hide behind their shiny computers, screen names and avatars when the go out trolling for trouble, and after they’re all done, they can carry on with their real lives without facing any real consequences. Trolling makes a lot of cowardly people feel stronger. Dealing with Trolls If a troll tries to provoke you, just ignore them. They’re not worth your time or emotional distress. Try not to take anything personally and remind yourself that their bad behavior does not change who you are. Remember that a person who seems like a troll is actually the one suffering in some way and is trying to distract themselves and make themselves feel better by taking it out on you. If you can, try to have a good laugh and think about how sad it is that people actually feel the need to insult complete strangers on the internet. If you're feeling strong enough, you might even consider responding to them with kindness by complimenting something about them (such as their profile picture, their username, etc). This is the last thing they'll expect from you, and while you'll have to risk being trolled again, there's always a chance that your unexpected kindness could move them in a way that changes their behavior for the better.

So anyone who puts an emoji against your posts is "stalking you"? Can anyone tell me what BOAY rules are being broken? BTW if I recall correctly it wasn't The Tank that ruined Racechat it was Wightman and Molloy.
-
BOAY'ers take some ownership. Put anyone you don't like on your Ignore list. DON'T bite, don't bait whoever if you don't want a response.

Apparently the "buck stops" with the starter well actually he is the one that lost the "bucks." It's a classic the Captain (the starter) must have it right which was the factor in a many avoidable air craft accidents. Hence the implementation of Crew Resource Management systems where every participant was expected to take responsibility and speak up. I suspect the Apprentices are still in the "Yes Sir/No Sir" mode of their careers. I remember when doing my amateur harness driving course we had a session with a Stipe. One of the topics was how he should be addressed - Mr x and Sir. Authority only obtained through title and position NOT credibility, skill and experience.

Chief Stipe replied to Reefton's topic in Galloping Chat
Thomaas I know you haven't ventured far from your mothers apron but Reefton is hardly a tourist mecca aka Queenstown. Even Reefton (the BOAY member) would attest to that. I'm not sure how many resident horse trainers are left in Reefton - I'm not even sure that there were that many ever. Aside from the O'Malley's and by true West Coast location definition they weren't really even Reefton. Compare that to Mutta Mutta - apparently in the Bermuda Triangle of the mecca for all things Thoroughbred and a skip from the metroplis of Hamilton and the shining new star of Cambridge. So credit where credit is due - Reefton out performed the privileged classes on their ONLY race day and presumably their last. Arguably there is a solid case to shift some of Mutta Mutta's dates (plural!) to the West Coast. -

How much did you put on your horse on course Reefton? -

Chief Stipe replied to Reefton's topic in Galloping Chat
Yes and if we are honest with ourselves the vast majority of those interested in the industry had their first experience of it at their local race track - mine was at Hokitika. One of the downsides of centralisation is that fewer and fewer people will have easy access to the sport. The majority of New Zealander's live outside Auckland. Even those that do live in Auckland find it too hard to travel across town to Ellerslie. Our young people are largely transient - they need to move to larger locations to be educated and eventually to find work. I took my interest in racing with me. Remove the early exposure and you remove long term interest. Reefton doesn't cost the industry anything more than any of the large tracks. Arguably if you remove capital depreciation it costs the industry a lot less. Local volunteers keep it going not overpaid execs. As for a racing experience I can't see how Kumara prevails over the other 4 West Coast tracks. -

On Course Turnover is representative of how many people were on course. I guess the biggest difference between Mutta Mutta and Reefton was those at Mutta Mutta were industry employers and employees who don't seem to bet. -
I'd love to know how they found out.......was it social media? I'm picking they got a phone call and that was the only thing that stopped them from doing it again in race 2.

30 HOURS TO THE BIGGEST COCK UP BY TAB

Hardly worth the NZ TAB applying for a license - "800 accounts generating $1 million in turnover." Says a lot about competitiveness. -

Certainly going to be an interesting Stewards report especially with the ninth race being abandoned because of a fall.

Well if you are going to start threads of any value - get rid of the ...., the princess, attempts at humour and the obscure pidgeon language you write in. Thanks.

So what are your metrics for the "viability of a racecourse"? Makes money? -
Once again you are incorrect - which is pay for you with anything concerning statistics and real numbers.

Geez you talk some crap. My New Year's resolution is to move your posts as soon as they get off topic. Starting now.

Chief Stipe replied to Reefton's topic in Galloping Chat
He is probably like me somewhat confused when comparing the on-course turnover stats for Reefton vs Mutta Mutta on the same day. Double the turnover yet Reefton goes and Mutta Mutta stays and gets more infrastructure improvements. Go figure!
