I was surprised to see Terry Chmiel up at Palmy. Thought his horses were better than going to all that effort of going up there.

There are not any big trainers coming down from the North (why would they with the stakes in Auckland) and you have to wonder the value of Canterbury trainers going there. Good for the trainer but is there value in it for the owner? I wouldn't be shocked if one day on hrnz it said Palmy was folding. Who would know.

Never bother looking at the Thoroughbred racing but Tauranga caught my eye on the TAB site as I moved to see the Rangiora fields. It has only 7 races, and then, with a further look the fields are tiny and Tauherenikau is not much better. Who would bet into that type of racing and who would attend? Like the trots on the grass up north in recent weeks, who wants to see 6, 7 or 8 horse on a massive galloping track? So is North Island racing screwed in general? A punter could not help but be drawn to Rangiora with its full fields and the odds on offer and there isn't even the need for an amateur race ? Methven with its inclusive programming will offer another great days racing on Sunday. Without question, harness in the South Island is better placed than anything else in the country. Gallops might as well close up shop and go buy a few sulkies...

You seemed to enjoy yourself last week at Geraldine when you absolutely stormed home for second on the grass like you never have before. Were you trying to get off the grass surfaces as fast as you could? lol

Of more interest than Waitangi Day up north. Terry and Hell's Shadow should win at prohibitive odds to get multis going. Already Gone (3.70ff) and Homebush Lad (3.50ff) to place with cushy runs. Wild cards are Doctor Tim back on the grass and Red Harbour to cause an upset if it can start well.
