How to get on-course participation back FULL at Alex Park
Karrotsisback replied to Karrotsisback's topic in Trotting Chat
Still waiting for these 4 out of 5 excellent on the money suggestions. So raffles at races or in general, with tickets given out BUT actually COST money to purchase, would also conclude to getting kiddies addicted to gambling in Rangas world? -
Wow that is breaking, can't see it up anywhere else yet. Was thinking when I saw a pic on Vivid memories it triggered a memory, Bird Story. Then posted on Williams on Fire thread. (which btw they got their 1st South TEAM winner yesterday. Well done) Great decision for him to move in that direction. Anyways was thinking how Bird Story is probably true. But not sure of course. But was just starting to think more likely than not true. And now this, me starting to think even more must be true.

Yeah Gamms & Forbs, I def have drivers that there is no way I would bet on, even if horse is the best in race. I also just don't openly go naming those drivers. Don't really get any join out of doing that. See it as being a Team a Team of 2 when they hit the track. Horse + Driver. O'Reilly & Sugar Me are my 2 new favs, combined together AS a TEAM. No I in TEAM.

Knew it, knew you were holding out on us all, with Vivid memory thread, not posting. Dog box for Ranga. Yes you are right, Brods idea was a self interest cap& it went back to those that are already engaged. Not attracted new participants on course. I accepted it as he was putting into conversation & it is a point. It would increase turnover. I have viewed a video where Woodham stated he is in favour or something of that perhaps as early as next year, un-restricting restricted. Im not really that clued up on how it all works re TAB turnover, how much is taken out per bet regardless of win loss, etc. The only thing I could think is if every bet does take a percentage & then the whole turnover is counted then yes Brods has a point. If it is tho that then TAB would lose with those punters being able to come back then I get that perspective too. But I really donβt know enough about it to make an informed opinion on it. But GET YOUR POINT. Yes Hot Dogs, Candy Floss, Coke & Diet Coke those are all available at the Easter Show too. Which is held annually next door to Alex Park & attracts thousands. Altho this years show, is was more like an A&P show, so most likely less will attend next year. Also missing was tug of war, muscle man show, carton character show, like a mirror show. Think they Candy Floss, Hot Dogs etc used to be available at the races too. Think Grass track racing may have that advantage over Metropolitan, in sense peeps can & still go have picnics etc. That sort of thing doesnβt go down as well on the concrete at Alex. -
You don't personal attack Galahs. You are 1 that Im fine with debating even from other sides of debate, due to this reason. There def are others that launch a personal attack, e.g. metal health karrots, or botox karrots, or idiot Galah, or clown Galah or troll Galah or paranoid Karrots or watch out for CCP Karrots, or Jaffas, or whatever laughing its funny actually isn't it. These are personal attacks & shift from the topic subject at hand. From topic to being about poster. Im about to launch into a debate with Ranga, yet I just liked a post on a different thread of Rangas. So not getting all personal with the poster. Sometimes we agree on things & other times we don't. Big deal.

Ok cool, sorry maybe I misread your post. Yes lets discuss it, I have ALL day & ALL day tomorrow too & maybe even ALL week. Im still in my lockdown PJs, so hope you don't mind a bit of banter PJ styles. Its still a.m anyway. Ok so lets chat. This isn't about attracting you or me, as we are already engaged in racing. Which point of your 4 would attract new peeps to the track? π -
Yes see your point as noted Galahs. Actually another thing I do is look for horse gear on horsey or maybe also if horsey has a certain way of running. You know who I observed that Alley Mae ran like wobble kind of, & speedy spur stuck neck out & then Lous some with a blaze. Yeah the colour thing really doesn't effect me much. I don't even know many of the trainers colours in South anyway, so have to look for other things. Some drivers too actually, can recognise just from way they sit in sulky. Noted Dunn in 1 race was starting to get the lean back thing going on yesterday.

A better way to facilitate this would be to have a ticket counter area separate & away from the activities. For pony patts or pony rides in sulky or any other activity. Actually could have a couple of activity get your ticket here counters. This way parents & kids are not stuck standing in a boring line for ages waiting & missing racing action. Instead for certain rides or attractions they go get a ticket which has a time on it. EG 3.50 pm this also is around races so watching racing is encouraged. Then at that time they go up to the ride - attraction itself & present the ticket. The tickets could be given out say with a time on every 10-15 mins. Parents can also go about & enjoy their day without having to worry about waiting in line. Then kids also know they have a fun activity coming up, & meanwhile there is racing action plus street performers & food/drink to take in. Plus its summertime. The sun is beaming down. Street performers could also influence encourage crowd into watching when its on & asking parents & kids who are you on in the race coming up. Remember kiddies will have their free fun betting number ticket from Kiddy Tote. With a chance to win a small fun prize. -

Another idea would be to have 1 specific meeting that they just build up & pump the marketing crap out of. And target EVERYONE. Kind of like the Jewels did at Cambridge this year. Pack the course out & aim for the highest turnover for the year. Have entertainment also & food & drink packages. Again market it hard. Try to ride off it like they do at Addington NZ CUP week. Think read on here that someone said that that turnover for the week helps overall as the rest is just bread & butter. Try & get it like an annual popular thing were it is known in Auckland among many e.g. how going to the gallops Boxing Day races is thing. And hugely popular. -

Correct, well partially. They do it to create an illusion from the outside that there is a GREAT ATMOPSHERE INSIDE. To try to encourage punters in. Brods hit nail on head NEED ATMOSPHERE to get peeps back. Or the last 1 out can turn the lights out. You are creating a real-time atmosphere here. Would Brods who attended with his super fan friend, be more incline to one-day come back if he has kids, or would he be more incline to tell friends etc about hey you guys should check it out, think you might like it. They had this & this going on. Or course you wouldnβt do ALL from list in 1 day, pick bits & pieces. Could be on a smaller scale too, but would need to be enough to draw peeps. Different activities could be selected this was just an example. Much better to have the course full than have it like an empty nite club where they pretend its amping with lots of folks inside. So yes Gamms could have chariots if there was room. Great idea re use middle of track for horse things. They actually have at Cambridge rides in the sulky for kids. Well they used 1-2 years ago, not sure they still have it. Guess so. They have a lil area out the back & the kids karts ponies multiple of them go around in circles & a new kiddy gets a turn. They also have/had at Cambridge croquet. Along with at Cambridge celebrity sulky challenge & also a standardbred/gallopers high jumping challenge that took place inside the track area. Not sure why Ranga you are mocking ideas. And then not putting forth any yourself. Yet cry out about the industry going down-hill. -

Actually at the Easter show a couple of years ago, had lots of entertainment. This show is popular & next door to the Park. This year due to Covid noticed many acts & things were missing eg. No art show work at all, no animals, no circus, no food restaurant area & so on. Literally was simply just those rides things. Maybe like at your Cup Week thing. So not really an Easter Show from the past due to Covid but YES, it sure has had an effect on International Performers. Still lots of Peeps turned up with their kids! -

Actually just tricked YβAll, Still Up, lockdown & all, lots of time on hand. Just thought of something to add. Could do a Harness History Puppet Story. Peeps are hanging out for Entertainment. Just because in Auckland, donβt think that there is free-flowing stimulating entertainment & affordable entertainment. Something I struggle BIG TIME with whilst in NZ. Boredom central. Alex P would simply be the facilitator whilst bringing new faces to the Park. Giving a better rep to the game. New owners could be had. More turnover. Got to try something new as think most BOAY users agree including yourself have already pointed out multi times, the current status quo JUST aint working. Where is your actual IDEA Ranga? No trickery. Quick question - Why do you think bouncers at niteclubs make peeps wait in line, even when one enters it maybe near empty? Why is that Ranga? What are they hoping to achieve? -

Target Mums & Dads, Solo Mums, stay at home Dads, families, friends of theirs, the works. Make sure drink stands easily accessible for soft drinks & easy to access wine/beer. So parents can chill with a drink while kids play & are entertained. They can attend with mates. Kids will have a ball & be wanting to return. Parents will think cheap 1-2 day of entertainment. Kids out of house. Off internet iPad. Hey friends they say to each other lets do this again next month! Kids be like YES please, lets go back. Bingo Alex P is rocking on. Alex P Complex commercial tenants are happy e.g. brings a lot of potential foot traffic to area. Eg Lone Star etc. Really think something like this could work. Market it hard. Kids pop up tote could be - random kids line up, get a horse number, if their horse wins they come back to pop up tote stand & win something - a lolly or something lol. Something along those lines. That way they stop & watch each race. Nite ALL - ideas still open π -

Ok have added to list. 1. UPT ENTERTAINMENT on offer BIG TIME 2. Get rid of wasted/ non used stand Alex. (Updated Elijah advises stand most likely to disappear once sold as area up for sale) 3. Give out vouchers at BIG DAYS for peeps to have an incentive to return to a normal meeting e.g. Cup Week. 4. Charge on certain special days e.g. Jewels, maybe FAMILY DAY. 5. Create atmosphere beyond those in corporate ALL inclusive rooms - food/drink. 6. Unrestrict restricted punters, so they can bring back peeps back to race-course their kids, friends & family. Ideas still open π -

So how do you do that? Create atmosphere? Beyond those that attend & pay $50-$150 to go into those corporate all inclusive food/drinks packages. Which often are a work do, 1-off, have a great time, but once off as work paying, or maybe its a group get together for a birthday, again a one off. Main focus is like NZ Cup drinking (which again is mostly a once off for these peeps). Nothing wrong with that, point being one-off. How to get young kids of today along to races, to later in future life share their experiences as older folks, saying I used to go to the races with my parents over summer during daylight savings, as many of those did on the Vivid Memories thread? Is it even possible? There are alot of Canβts & Noβs I have noticed. Is this part of the problem? -

Next question, how to improve the experience? So they walk away thinking they may one day come back & also tell their friends/family how they went to races & it had xzy there & as a result they should go 1 day too as they recommend it as being a GREAT DAY OUT.
