Jason Grimson wins appeal - brawl conviction quashed!
Michael replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Trotting Chat
I never said that anyone should lose their licence Gamma so why would I disagree with you? However your post seems to allege that Mr Grimson was initially DQ'ed because someone verbally assaulted him...." would want an active participant 'Disqualified' from participating for a period, because someone verbally assaulted them while they were out celebrating a winner/win with friends and family" I'm pretty sure his initial DQ (and now fine)isn't because someone said nasty words to him, it was because he hit someone -
Jason Grimson wins appeal - brawl conviction quashed!

Pretty sure that verbal assault isn't as bad as physical assault Gamma (especially a cheap shot) But no doubt you'll disagree -
Gammalite: "It's great for racing what Emma is doing" Is today's Steward's Report also great for racing Gamma?

The push to Good Afternoon Harness Racing New Zealand is getting ready to develop a National Venue Plan that will guide how races and resources are distributed across New Zealand’s racing venues. We are writing to invite your feedback on the draft venue assessment criteria that will be used to help us determine the best mix of racing venues and training facilities for the sustained success of our sport. We would greatly value your input on whether our draft criteria are right. For example, is there anything missing or do we have too many criteria, and what weighting should be given to each of them. All harness racing/trotting clubs, kindred bodies, licence holders, owners and breeders are invited to have their say on the draft venue assessment criteria by 5.00 pm, Friday 25 August 2023. Full details including a list of the criteria and ways to have your say can be found in the consultation document. This consultation is being facilitated by an independent company who will compile a report on your feedback and assist us to finalise the criteria. Also, please see the FAQ document. Attend an Information Session If you have any questions or would like to learn more about this consultation, please attend one of our free information sessions on Zoom. We are hosting sessions for different parts of the country, so please register (by clicking the link below) for the area you are based in or are most involved in harness racing, by choosing one of the options below. • Southland – Monday 14 August, 2.30pm – 3.15pm • Otago – Monday 14 August, 4.00pm – 4.45pm • Canterbury – Tuesday 15 August, 3.30pm – 4.15pm • West Coast, Marlborough and Nelson – Monday 21 August, 2.30pm – 3.15pm • Lower North Island – Monday 21 August, 4.00pm – 4.45pm • Upper North Island – Tuesday 22 August, 3.30pm – 4.15pm Have your say by completing our short survey www.hrnz.co.nz/survey or, alternatively, you can email your feedback to yoursay@hrnz.co.nz. Kind Regards Gary Woodham Chief Executive close Venues and race more and more at Addington

Pushed go too soon! I was not a fan of the Rating system when it was introduced, and since introduction it has been tweaked, what, 20 times? Clearly it is still not keeping everyone happy Racing like for like was the desire and that could have been achieved under the old Class system, or even achieved now with some effort (although a lack of horses up North make it exceptionally difficult to be fair) No matter what the system changes only change some winners, it doesn't create additional ones As another poster saids, you cannot keep everyone happy "We" moan if horses are pushed through the grades too quick, saying it forces ioverseas sales Then when there aren't enough higher rated horses to race a real good one like Copy That we moan about the opposition being cannon fodder, or if Copy That is excluded from the race we moan It's impossible without sufficient numbers

Firstly, I did not call you ignorant. Read my post Secondly I read this "I see not quite as many non winners in the top rated % this week, but last weeks sunday meeting at addington was again proof how badly non winners are currently placed in the handicapping system" Whilst you might have posted in a different way in other sentences I didn't read them.
-
I disagree Galah The problem isn't me not understanding you, it's your poor explanation of what you are complaining about You said "I see not quite as many non winners in the top rated % this week, but last weeks sunday meeting at addington was again proof how badly non winners are currently placed in the handicapping system" You now appear to be saying that non winners are treated poorly after they have a win, that's different
-
I thought you had blocked me and couldn't therefore read, nor quote, my messages? Clearly you told pork pies
-
I haven't bothered to check as to recent changes but from memory the above must be rubbish I understood non-winners had a MR rating And winners had a R rating So lumping them in together for a moan is a bit ignorant No wonder Brodie liked the post(s)

Has the new CEO of Albion Park left HRNZ a bit short of cash?
Michael replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Trotting Chat

Has the new CEO of Albion Park left HRNZ a bit short of cash?

I have no involvement in the industry whatsoever and I don't even watch the races, so I don't know why you would think that I would be reeling. Perhaps you could elucidate? I am learned enough to know that the 500 pokie machines funded the money eating monster that the RIU has become, so any funding to be received by the codes in future will already be reduced by $15,000,000 Why would I have any comment at all about Cambridge Raceway? I have no knowledge of anything at all in relation to Cambridge Raceway. Again, perhaps you can elucidate? However I have read the we have a new HRNZ Chairman My predictions in relation to that are With Holden in charge I expect THAT, in the next 18 months 1. Catherine MacDonald will be gone 2. The HRNZ CEO will be gone 3. Auckland will get all the Friday nights back and Cambridge will be relegated to Sundays (and therefore NZMTC and ATC will share and cannibalise the Friday night T/O) .......within 9 months, not 18 4. There will be no race meetings at Ashburton, Hawera, Kapiti, Marlborough, Rangiora, Stratford, Nelson, Manawatu, Oamaru or Timaru 5. The West Coast March meetings will be gone 6. The Xmas meetings on the West Coast will be under severe threat (no predictions as to the lunatic's effect on the Southern scene as my geography knowledge isn't sharp enough) Then after 3 years just like the Warriors Holden will move on with the comment on his Linknd page "succesfully restructured the sport of harness racing by levering my knowledge gained over many years" The Warriors were very happy to see him go, time will tell but I bet "we" will be even happier to see him go -
Based on Holden's past history the CEO would be goneburger, but since he is unwell it will probably be Catherine McDonald who will be leaving the building Mark my words

Thanks ATC and NZMTC Now we have the Jack Nicholson movie II The lunatics are running the assylum (Cam Bray not included...other than to say his vote appears easily bought) ,....................................................................... Statement from HRNZ : Harness Racing New Zealand Board Changes John Coulam and Kevin McNaught have resigned as Chair and Deputy Chair respectively of the Harness Racing New Zealand Board, and have been replaced by Phil Holden and Cam Bray. Both John and Kevin remain on the Board. Mr McNaught will retain his current sub-committee chairing roles, but the change helps relieve him of some of his workload. Mr Holden is an Independent Director on the Board and Chair of the Finance Committee. He is also Chair of two other Boards, including Cycling New Zealand where he is overseeing a significant change process following the very public challenges that sport has faced. He is also a former CEO of both Harness and Greyhound Racing. Cam Bray joined the Board last year. He is President of the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club and is also a member of the NZ Sires Stakes Board. “I want to acknowledge and pay tribute to the significant contributions John and Kevin have each made in their roles on the Board over recent years,” said Mr Holden. “We will continue to seek their wise counsel and advice as we go forward. “I want to emphasise that I do not expect any disruption to the ongoing administration of the sport,” he said. “The change simply reflects the desire by the Board for a re-evaluation of our priorities and a fresh look at the challenges harness racing faces nationally. There is a significant level of uncertainty that we need to address as quickly as possible, and in an upfront and transparent manner. “I will have more to say on that in due course, but in the meantime, I look forward to engaging with members and everyone involved in harness racing, and hearing from them first hand.”

Government approves Entain partnership with TAB NZ
Michael replied to Nowornever's topic in Trotting Chat
It's 500 machines and they fund the RIB to the tune of $15,000,000 Year #1 not looking that great already I have no views either way as I haven't followed the finer print that closely, but 2028/29 is when the deal can be judged; that's the first year after the gaurenteed "payments" -
Hi Agent, I'm not sure that this is correct. My last advice was that On-course T/O was not more beneficial to Clubs (which would explain a Club's reluctance to invest in On-course attendance promotions

WELL DONE TAB... BALLARAT CUP FIELD ODDS OUT ALREADY
Michael replied to Davis's topic in Trotting Chat
It's got nothing to do with the Ballarat Cup But you brought it up in your post I just walked around it (I didn't run!) It is the same as any other grass track I have raced on, except the crossing is one of the best about -
Excuse my ignorance as if a pacer loses a shoe we usually just take the other one off as well This Report says it lost the right hind plate but slipped on the left hind Am I missing something? Condolences Brian, given the work that goes in to a raceday I know it's gutting Mike
