  1. Every meeting at Methven puts approximately 80,000 back into the industry less trackside costs which I don't know. Every meeting at Methven now puts on owners/trainers BBQ near the end of the day care of the canterbury Trotting owners Association, irt UNHINGED and the club. Not alot of cost, bit of volunteer time alot of happy people who want to come back.
  2. Start by stop treating owners as an inconvenience on Raceday, make it the best experience they have ever had oncourse. Put our money where we get the best bang for our buck, grass track meeting's in Canterbury. Cut expenses don't make me race outside of our own locality. Spread the love first win bonuses, pretty simple worked before. 2yr old entain bonus 3yr old 10,000 minimum to winner 4yr old 15, 000 5yr old and older 20,000 The cost to get your first win is way greater than any of these figures but will have owners and trainers chasing them. As John Dunn told me the top looks after itself.
  3. As an owner why would you have a horse if you can't be there to watch it . Southland are definitely on a hiding to nothing with there dates, maybe they could use some of that Forbury money to get some lights and run some meetings twilight when working owners can attend. P.s don't run them at night in winter.
  4. For at least the last ten years that I have been going to Woodend I have never seen a horse go out without a cover on , winter to keep them warm and dry , summer to keep the sun off with light weight covers.HRNZ visit all Stables regularly, next time you are at any race meeting go and have a close look at their horse's then go find profit and smack him in the nose for publishing utter crap.
  5. Strong recommendations I'd say.
  6. You are right subsidizing is exactly what is going on the problem is what happens in 4yrs time when the guaranteed subsidies stop, do entain go again with an annual 10 mil , is our turnover up enough to generate our own money , are we using any of that 10 million to create sustainable growth? Are there smarter ways of creating a sustainable industry?
  7. How about promoting our product not just to the participants. Highlighting our champions , telling the story of our industry, nah way to simple.
  8. Unfortunately we were sold slot races as being self funding which was never the case , now we have two more on showday which are subsidised even more.
  9. I can tell you when determining punishments they do look at past offenses and how frequently they occur, so you do have to factor into any sentence. Personally I don't know either drivers records.
  10. I can't see any reason you couldn't put a claiming price on any horse in any race .probably not so good for gavelhouse but would definitely spark some interest in ownership which we so badly need.
  11. Take it from me first hand John Dunn is the hardest worker I have ever met. The team Robert Jenna and John have put together just works .On Saturday it's not unusual to be still hobbling them up ar 2.30 they just Don't take short cuts.
  12. Your on the money only looking at nz figures, I'll see if I can get the totals
  13. Unfortunately the betting for these meetings hasn't been good but as you say catering for this class of horse's and their owners is.
  14. Galah you are on the money with how we should be promoting our industry but unfortunately hrnz have chosen to promote a race day experience that doesn't exist just check out harnesslife on facebook this is where our money is being spent.
  15. Agree with most of your points, Methven has provided just under 500,000 into the pool over the last season and has put it's hand up for another date for the last 4 yrs . Unbelievably to no avail sure makes alot of sense.
  16. Owners should throw a few dollars to the owners of the second horse would make more sense .
  17. Sugar loaf worked great on sunday and wild excuse if the pace is on ,can stay all day .
  18. The horse on the beach was classy, the horse heather was washing is one she is part owner of expresso denario , yip Heather is a Witch
