Turnpike Joe walked up the straight in 30.7 when winning that maiden so putting him in the grade via discretion is judicious. Putting him in the other race meant taking on Hesashorething, a horse that as recently as May beat home Beach Ball and Mossdale Ben in a stakes race at Addington.

Until you can get your mindset past 'career wins', there is no hope for you. Just last week Peter Forsberg was soundly beaten by horses rated in the 40s, come with 1 career win.

That is accurate. A lot of the last few years was fighting to prevent the RIB being able to use the recorded conversations/transcripts to prosecute under the Rules of Racing. You can draw your own conclusions from that.

My observation is that with NZ harness, if you are betting the day before (say between 4pm opening and 9pm), the market moves are all automated, especially based on accounts. I get the impression that generally no actual traders are watching the markets at this time. So what you see sometimes is multiple horses auto-firm after bets are taken but no one manually winding the others out until the next morning when someone is in the office (or logged in, however they do it). This isn't the iron clad rule (for example, doesn't apply when there's also a race meeting on such as Friday 4pm when they opened Winton for Saturday because the traders were monitoring for Addington) but is almost always the case on Wednesdays for the Thursday meeting.

Tend to agree and the turnover reflects this. Other factors too including an aging training and ownership base. I've always felt like the best time for Southland Harness is Friday twilight. Given their geographic positioning, they get sun later than everywhere else. It allows owners to go out after work, it captures the Friday after work punters and the Friday evening harness punters tuning in for Addington etc. The other option is Sundays. Saturdays and Thursdays just don't work on many levels.

A person i know last week put a bet on a Addington dogs power play to win 2k. The bet was not a winner. They were immediately cut to $40 profit max on Power Plays. Nice of Entain.

Brodie you never cease to amaze me with your short-sightedness (lets not forget your ongoing head-in-sand views on whip restrictions). Woodlands breed well over 100 foals per year. Part of this, by their own admission, is doing their part for the industry to help get foals on the ground. In some cases they are selling for less than the advertised service fees. But when you own the stallion or have free service entitlements, that is not applicable. Also pays to remember than with, say, 120 foals on the ground, only so many can go through to the yearling sale. The bottom half, mostly by pedigree, but also some on type, get put through the weanling sales. Other key reasons for this are as follows 1) get new sire stock in to stables 2) give industry players with lesser budgets the chance to buy horses at more realistic prices 3) Get some cash coming in during the winter months. A big stud with lots of stuff has plenty of outgoings. 4) Reduce the workload of staff who have just weaned 100+ foals and now have to prepare them for the yearlings sales. Just not practical to prepare 80-100.
