  1. Poor Brodie. Wants to use the self-service early so they don't know who he is and he can do bets to win $999 and avoid the big brother, five eyes illuminati North Korea rules around identification. Unlucky my bro.
  2. Yes I am aware, and the Manawatu meeting slated for two days later (on the 21st) will also be moved to Otaki giving them a two-day meeting to themselves. BUT, they will also still run the dual code day on Jan 6 at a smaller level, probably four or five races as has been the case recently, even though it doesn't currently say either of those things in the calendar. You can also expect a couple of meetings at Thames to be announced sooner rather than later, too.
  3. I believe the Otaki gallops meeting on Jan 6 will actually be run as a dual code, just two days later than usual. It's a misprint.
  4. The police/crown have lodged some sort of appeal very recently.
  5. You won't find any argument from me that Republican Party and Muscle Mountain were both bad options given their draws/handicaps.
  6. Turnover was $1.75 million, up 40% on last year.
  7. A winning bet playing the speed maps to win $145,000 was terrible? Come on son.
  8. Are you specialist? People who paid in, say, $50, get back $50 rather than $45. 95% of them will leave that $50 in their account and give it back to the TAB today, the same as if they had $45 at the start of the day. But in this case they are appreciative of the GESTURE from Entain to give them money back.
  9. I believe Entain 'topped up' the payout after the last so everyone got their money back. As an earlier poster said... somewhere in the vicinity of $10,000. That kind of goodwill will be rewarded today when most of that money will be reinvested across both codes.
  10. Only just saw this.... would have said Don't Stop Dreaming win and Kango Top3/Top4
  11. Of course you do, because you can't find one that will sit 3 pegs at $4.50 a place and run a drum.
  12. It's in the Racing Act.
  13. There is both thoroughbred and standardbred racing in China. There is no gambling. The standardbreds compete in saddle paces. You can see them briefly at about 1min 47 sec mark of this clip below. If you peruse the recent NZB yearling sales, there were multiple Chinese buyers of about 7 colts... for a spend of $230,000 including an $80,000 colt.
  14. If someone is repeatedly speaking about your wife or daughter in an unsavory manner, they're fair game.
  15. Put your tin foil hat back on.
  16. Watch his 'final' drive, on Aye Aye Captain. Specifically from the 400. The horse outside him had attacked for the lead a lap out. Shocked the Stewards believed him.
  17. I will donate $100 to your favourite charity if you can go 3 months without putting ! at the end of your sentences.
  18. It's a shocking field ... if you think she's not $1.90 then point out the horses that are over the odds?
  19. I could show you 10 stories from last 6 years quoting Mike saying he's about to retire.
  20. Those are questions for the handicappers and Cambridge's Michael Douglas. But the race conditions allowed for up to 54 raters and horses with up to two career wins, which basically allows in horses that was won a couple of races quickly and found themselves on 55 or 56. Turnpike Joe walked up the straight in 30.7 when winning that maiden so putting him in the grade via discretion is judicious. Putting him in the other race meant taking on Hesashorething, a horse that as recently as May beat home Beach Ball and Mossdale Ben in a stakes race at Addington.
  21. Until you can get your mindset past 'career wins', there is no hope for you. Just last week Peter Forsberg was soundly beaten by horses rated in the 40s, come with 1 career win.
  22. That is accurate. A lot of the last few years was fighting to prevent the RIB being able to use the recorded conversations/transcripts to prosecute under the Rules of Racing. You can draw your own conclusions from that.
  23. My observation is that with NZ harness, if you are betting the day before (say between 4pm opening and 9pm), the market moves are all automated, especially based on accounts. I get the impression that generally no actual traders are watching the markets at this time. So what you see sometimes is multiple horses auto-firm after bets are taken but no one manually winding the others out until the next morning when someone is in the office (or logged in, however they do it). This isn't the iron clad rule (for example, doesn't apply when there's also a race meeting on such as Friday 4pm when they opened Winton for Saturday because the traders were monitoring for Addington) but is almost always the case on Wednesdays for the Thursday meeting.
  24. Tend to agree and the turnover reflects this. Other factors too including an aging training and ownership base. I've always felt like the best time for Southland Harness is Friday twilight. Given their geographic positioning, they get sun later than everywhere else. It allows owners to go out after work, it captures the Friday after work punters and the Friday evening harness punters tuning in for Addington etc. The other option is Sundays. Saturdays and Thursdays just don't work on many levels.
