Extremely frightening seeing that. Fingers crossed RT May is ok.

I just asked Mr Google.... if you enter "nztr venue plan", I think it is the first returned result, as a PDF file.

I for one will continue to idolize Nairn and old man Williamson. Two fellas that are well respected and know a thing or two. They might just be going through a bit of lean patch at the mo, something that most stables have at some point in time. Unless it's the blue army that just continues to march on.. and on. Some of their troops get injured (Turn It Up, Spankem etc) but they just get replaced.

Kumara track got the go ahead today. Cheap wild pork going too apparently.

More of a harness man than a gallops fan, so please excuse me popping up on the gallops thread... What is the beef between the Kumara and Reefton clubs? As an outsider looking in, it appears Reefton are quite accommodating and Kumara don't want, and never wanted a bar of it (Reefton's offer of assistance). I could be wrong however. Is it just different personalities at play, or is there a bit of history (bad blood) between the two clubs? Can't beat West Coast racing. It's the real grass roots stuff and backbone of the racing industry. For either code, gallops or trots.

Well said Jess. The other thing too, is that sometimes in these God awful events, there are young kids involved/associated or related to the low life scum, obviously through no fault of their own. School aged kids can be pretty nasty too eachother sometimes, and different kids can react differently. Especially if they got hassled enough just for sharing the same surname or being related to the low life... RIP Grace and thoughts to her family.

Honest to God, when I saw that suit struting around I thought it was Colonel Mustard.

I recall the same thing mate. And the post he made has since been deleted from the thread. "63" is the magic number here, as you have correctly highlighted.

Great concept and seemed to go very well, despite having a false start or two. Car park was well populated prior to the first race and many patrons were jumping out of taxis outside the main stand. Pity the weather didn't exactly play ball but it was a good afternoon nonetheless. Well done and thank you to the organisers, the club, trainers, drivers, strappers etc great effort all round and much appreciated by all. Hope to see the concept repeated again sometime, maybe during the non-Christmas lead-in period, with a later start time (perhaps 6.30pm ish).

This is what I am talking about.... $5 chicken burger at Addington raceway. Bloody good kai at a price that I can afford. Score: 9.5/10. Photo circa 2018. But what do the retards do? Yip, bugger it up. This year they ramp up the price and change the chicken, not to mention burn the bun, so few points off these days. Score: 6.5/10.

From 1992 to 2017 the food was pretty feral and the prices just got out of hand. Has improved in more recent times, but more improvement is required.

WTF was he listening to, or getting his info from? Fact is, the race is not a one horse affair, and there are several chances that can win on any given day given the right run and some luck.
-
You take your better half out to the track Oldwhiteman? If not, Medusa is out very early for the prelim... not sure if that's normal for the horse or not. It doesn't look all that great in the prelim either just quietly. But don't tell her I said that.

May have been misreported by some, but initially the trainer reported it as displaying symptoms like hives. Kind of like when one may have flu-like symptoms but without actually having the flu.
-
They usually base their accepted bets on the amount of the liability. That could possibly be why you could get more on the $3 shot that the $30 shot.

I think for the final night of the inters they should ditch them all. Bring back into the studio the one and only Ron Snowdon with his mo. His dulcet tones... "Trackside Saturday night". And on track we can have Jim Smith with his mo. Two manly men, telling it exactly how it is, with a wee cheeky scotch just out of screenshot. Those were the days.
-
The trainer advised the stewards just after lunchtime today that the horse was displaying symptoms of hives, but "appeared to be unaffected". Take whatever you want out of that. Vet checked and cleared pre-race, but clearly the horse isn't 100%. Happy is right. Hopefully he can bounce back next week.

Yeah dead right, the drivers are reminded. And then reminded again at a later date. And then reminded again later on. So on and so on. Should be: "Excuse me Happy, you need to come in to the stipes room and have a chat. You too Mr Starter, both come into the room now please. Right, Mr Sunrise, whilst we are all looking at the replay of the start of the race on the TV screens, tell us what you were thinking immediately prior to the starting tapes being released, and what you were asking your horse to do." [Insert Mr Sunrise's excuse here] Ok Mr Sunrise, thanks for that. Barbara, did you get all that on your typewriter? No, don't include the swear words. Mr Sunrise, we are going to remind you of your responsibilities as a driver at the start of a race, blah blah blah. Mr Starter, tell us how you saw the start of the race and what, if any, concerns you had as the tapes were released. [Insert Mr Starter's response here] Riiiiiiiggggght!!!!!! Next time Mr Lamb don't be such a bloody useless starter, you can't pull the wool over my eyes. Mr Sunrise, take better control of your horse at the start from now on." If Mr Sunrise offends again (within a specified period), he needs a boot up the backside and reference made to his initial warning. Not just given another "reminder"! I still say ban the standing starts.

Harness Racing NZ - change the stupid whip rule NOW!!!
Rusty replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
I always thought vegans were a bunch of tree hugging hippies, that have dreadlocks, protest signs and wear walk shorts with leather sandals..... But after watching The Gamechangers on Netflix recently.... wow. The documentary is well worth a watch. And on the whip rule... I think they have to ban the whip use during a race altogether (both codes). It's only a matter of time, the way the world is going, so they should just bite the bullet and do it now. Whips could still be carried, but only used in rare occasions during an emergency. No, I am not a vegan having said ban the whip. But I'm thinking about changing having watched that doco. -
The state of Victoria ditched standing starts a while back. None of the Melbourne based industry participants (trainers, drivers, owners and punters) that I have spoken to have said that they miss them. South Australia had a rather peculiar way of starting their "stand" (walk) starts, with horses walking around in a circle, on the inside of the track predominantly, then they walk up single file to the outside of the track, driver pulls the left rein and away they go. Weird look but seemed to work with less breakers etc. Although harness racing in that state is on life support and it can't be too much longer and it will be gone completely, if it hasn't already..

Just ban standing starts. They are awful.
