  1. Latest appointment for Trustee NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE Appointment of a Trustee of the Riccarton Racecourse Recreation Reserve Under section 70(2) of the Reserves Act 1977, the undersigned, Department of Conservation appoints Rodger John Finlay, Director of Christchurch to be a trustee of the Riccarton Racecourse Recreation Reserve in the place of Gordon Hamish Fulton (resigned). Dated at Christchurch this 13th day of October 2025. Signed by ANDY THOMPSON, Operations Manager, Mahaanui/Sockburn District. (DOC R290220) 2025-go5842 15-10-2025 09:02
  2. I may need to be corrected but I thought the land was under the control of the "CHRISTCHURCH RACECOURSE RESERVE TRUSTEES" Below from when the land was sold after earthquakes and change in ACT by Parliament. Maybe your focus should be getting some "new blood' into the place !!!! The partnership seeking to develop land at Riccarton Park Racecourse welcomes Government efforts to reduce red tape. In an announcement earlier today, Building and Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith said the government will introduce special legislation which will pave the way for the Joint Venture between the Trustees that govern Riccarton Park Racecourse and Ngāi Tahu Property to develop areas of land on the edge of the racecourse ready for around 600 new homes. Minister Smith also confirmed first home buyers will have an opportunity to invest via the government’s KiwiSaver HomeStart initiative. The Riccarton Park Racecourse land is currently bound by two Reserves Acts and requires zoning changes. Ngāi Tahu Property Chief Executive Tony Sewell says getting the land ready for development would have otherwise been very slow going. "As any developer in Christchurch knows, the margins we work within are unforgiving. Timing is critical when it comes to being able to deliver sections to market in the post-earthquake economic environment." Christchurch Racecourse Reserve Trust Chairman Peter Cordner says the Riccarton Park Racecourse site will remain unaffected, as well as the 1,200 m chute and the training stables on the Yaldhurst Road boundary. This project has been the result of countless hours of planning by both the Trustees and the Canterbury Jockey Club and I believe the very best interests of racing are at its heart. "The ability to free up some land for development will generate capital and a regular income which will benefit racing, the Riccarton Park Racecourse, the Canterbury Jockey Club and the wider Canterbury economy." Tony Sewell says he is encouraged by the pragmatic approach taken by all the parties involved. "As well as bringing developed land to the Christchurch housing market, the timely progression of the Riccarton Park Racecourse development will bring benefits to multiple communities". Background Ngāi Tahu Property Limited is a specialist in property investment, development and rural land ownership. The company is a subsidiary of Ngāi Tahu Holdings – the investment company for the tribe. Ngāi Tahu Property also manages the tribes Right of First Refusal. (As part of the settlement of the Ngāi Tahu Claim, Ngāi Tahu negotiated a Right of First Refusal on Crown land to be sold or made surplus within the Ngāi Tahu rohe (region/area), with a view to rebuilding the tribe’s economic base.) Ngāi Tahu Property will purchase its share of the Riccarton Park Racecourse land in a 50:50 joint venture with Christchurch Racecourse Reserve Trust. On behalf of the Joint Venture, Ngāi Tahu Property will develop the land for residential use which will bring much needed land to the Christchurch housing market. The Riccarton Park Racecourse is currently vested in The Trustees of the Christchurch Racecourse as a racecourse reserve under the Reserves Act 1977 (RA) and the Christchurch Racecourse Reserve Act 1878 (CRRA). The Christchurch Racecourse Reserve Trustees are obligated under law to manage the Reserve in the best interests of racing. The Trustees lease most of the Reserve land to the Canterbury Jockey Club (CJC) for the purpose of the racecourse known as Riccarton Park Racecourse. More than five years ago The Trustees and the CJC identified areas of the Reserve which had the potential to generate an income greater than the Trustees could otherwise achieve. The capital from the development would be retained and managed by the Trustees to provide an annual annuity to be made available to racing at Riccarton Park and the maintenance of the Reserve . The land earmarked for development is approximately 38 hectares of more than 121 hectares next to Yaldhurst Road, in the Sockburn and Broomfield areas of North-West Christchurch. The enactment of special legislation for The Trustees and CJC will mean the club can remain competitive with other clubs in New Zealand who have the ability to develop their freehold properties, unencumbered.
  3. This from Sundays meeting at Addington from our RIU POCKET CALL - when questioned regarding the performance driver R Close advised the gelding had raced lethargically throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M Purvis advised he would have the horse examined in the coming days and undertook to notify the findings to Stewards. This horse has had 59 starts in the last 3 years for ONE placing. Last 4 starts 15th/field of 15 9th/11 10th/12 12th/13 Last won a race 18th July 2019 Runs it's best race in 14 starts running 8th in a field of 10 and they "question the performance" It's nearly a career best performance !!!!! I would have thought they had more important things to worry about.
  4. Never heard so much cr*p on radio. Was told they did races on a Saturday so thought I'd tune in as was in car. Were about to cross to a race at Geraldine that they had put $25 each way on a horse and because it galloped before the Mobile left they never crossed over for the call. I hope the 3 guys on at the time have another job...No future on radio. Why do they have to end everyone's name with an "O" eg Marko, Daveo etc
  5. I am a critic of Dean McKenzie. He had 9 months to makes changes but did not/could not make the tough decisions. Waited until he could blame something else (Covic 19) before he got of his a**e. Also can someone tell me what he has done to generate income. Everything he has done is to reduce cost but I have yet to see an action that will give extra income. The future of racing will be decided in the next few days when Stake money for 2020/21 season is announced. My prediction for Gallops is minimum stake at 10k but 40% less funding to NZTR so Premier Racing hit hard.
  6. And we still wait for 1/2 year report now 2 months OVERDUE How can anyone invest in the Industry without knowing where they sit financially.
  7. It may be so long they may need to print in a seperate book.
  8. As the report is for the period Aug 1st - Jan 31and with having the income from "their amazing new website" plus being Pre Covic -19 the figures should be OUTSTANDING based on the BS they were spinning Come on Dean release the figures or will they embarrass you and your Board.
  9. And the BEST PERSON they can get to reply to these important questions is IAN from PUBLIC AFFAIRS I hope the EXECUTIVE OF NZTA don't mind being given the "middle finger"
  10. Are these gone ?
  11. Before we can do anything RITA should release their 1/2 year Financial Report. 3 of the last 4 years this has come out before the 6th April........why the delay. You can not keep bad news hidden forever.
  12. I questioned you last week BUT this week I praise you. 175k from BGP should help pay the wages this week. TAB WINNERS BY A KNOCKOUT
  13. Before Christmas when the TAB was having 50 million a week in bets I tried to put $100 on a greyhound @ $3.50 and was restricted to a bet of $39.00 Yesterday the TAB took a bet from BGP FOR $70,000 TO WIN $105,000.00 and lost. Last week they had 2.5 million invested in horse racing so would you not think that they would restrict their exposure. During the week on Racenet under "latest news" was article about Topsports and their new product. As detailed below One of TOPSPORT’s standout products is Best Of The Best Premium where punters can bet at any time up to 30 minutes before most Saturday metropolitan races across Australia and get the best price of Top Fluctuation or Best Tote, and you can bet to win up to $5,000! And that’s something you won’t get anywhere else. Aussie punters should bet here Dean McKenzie should investigate why TAB Bookies took this bet. By the way BGP well done getting the TAB to take the bet.
  14. On the rita.org.nz site you we find the latest update from The Chairman Sorry Dean but my high school daughter could have written this. At this time the Industry needs to see what you are doing to save/protect the future of this Industry. Questions 1- How many of your Staff at the TAB have had wages cut due to either lack of work or income. The last financial report shows that you had 10 staff being paid $250,000.00 + 30 staff being paid $150-250,000.00 96 staff being paid $100-150,000.00 2 - Operating Expenses in 2019 Report were $142.2mil (up 15mil in 5 years). Why not tell us how much you have "peeled back" from this in the first 7 months. 3 - Why not be upfront and tell us the true position as at today of the TAB (RITA) 4 - We turn on the TV, Radio and websites to read Management and Employees of NRL, AFL, NBA, Football Clubs taking huge wage cuts to keep their Industry alive. If you have staff who have done this tell us so we know what is happening.
  15. This man has been a good Racing Administrator but as a CEO he continues to show that he lacks the ability and qualifications to hold this position. The CJC ( i presume) pay for their time on Newstalk ZB every Saturday before 8am and for the $20.00 bet they giveaway. This morning Tims bet was $20.00 to WIN Te Akau Shark in Australia Why is this so wrong. 1 - As the CEO of the Club holding a meeting today he is by his bet saying...Don't bet at my meeting, In 9 races there is nothing worth having a bet on (Thanks Tim I'll give your meeting a miss today) 2 - NZ Racing/RITA is entering desperate times and every cent counts. So why would Tim bet in a race in Australia where Australia will recieve co-mingling fees for such bet. A bet in NZ would keep all fees/commission for NZ Racing. I know that we are not talking about alot of money here BUT it is the principal. As a CEO of a Club racing today and a major player in NZ Racing he should be support his own Meeting.
  16. Described all day by an over excited caller as “The GREAT RACE” mmmmmm
  17. And to those who want to close down Timaru I hope you enjoyed yesterday. 11 races, many with 20 Acceptances and a perfect track. Unlike most of the City Race Meetings
  18. What will the operating profit be this year ? Last year 154.9 million. what is your figure for this year ?
  19. I think you will find Waller trials most horses before they race. So they are ready for a $130,000 race on a Saturday. I may be wrong a 10k race on a Saturday may feel like going to trials.
  20. Do you think that a trainer saying he put horses in to make up a field (only 2 noms) is good for racing. Just keep taking punters money !!
  21. When you have a leading NZ trainer using a Saturday race day to give a team a run instead of going to the trials. Time to close the place down. It is becoming a DISGRACE.
  22. Having attended an amazing day at Royal Randwick with not just Winx but the whole concept of creating a 2 day Carnival "The Championship" and hearing people talk about the success of "The Everest" got me thinking. Do we have any CEO's in racing within NZ with any VISION !! Auckland seem to do a few things well but still struggle get big attendance. Waikato....not sure Wellington...struggle Canterbury void of any new ideas What have NZTR and the above Clubs come up with over the last 10 years to add excitement to their race days ?
  23. A question someone may know answer. When it comes to Trainers 10% winning stake are Te Akau the trainers who employ Jamie and pay him a salary or is Jamie the trainer receiving 10%.
  24. I was thinking the best way to let the NZRB/TAB how disappointed we are in their $50,000,000.00 investment in " Dog "of a website. They don't seem to listen to their customers. My proposal is for everyone to withdraw all the funds in their account on the same day Let's say Monday 18th Feb would this work ?
  25. Same problem. No trainer, no jockey, no barrier draw. Local “primary school” could do a better job.
