Yet the jockey riding the warm fav in Race 2 decided to drop to the back. Surely.... surely... the trainer would have told the jockey the back markers didn't make an inch of ground in the first race. You simply don't get this with Australian racing, and I believe it's putting people off punting on NZ racing (as the evidence suggests).

I wanted an answer for the ride and someone kindly posted the stipes report, which was great. Unfortunate for connections, as it appeared to be in front at the time he was forced to stop riding, but that's racing.

Cutting away immediately after the race is terrible. Put them on TS2, so we get both. We don't need USA races taking up space on TS2, when we could have Aus premier racing aftermath.

We see this type of thing across NZ sport Take away jumps racing, you take away the grassroots and heart of the industry. In rugby, since the NPC and Super Rugby became somewhat irrelevant, the All Blacks' quality has diminished. Ridding NZ racing of its heart with have a negative flow-on effect, and although jumps racing doesn't bring in the drunks who spend money on alcohol, it's beside the point. It can't all be corporate spending.

They are effective adverts. They get people talking, and although they might be cringeworthy to racing fans, they will bring in new customers. Seeing as the TAB does nothing to attract new customers via the internet (google), old-school adverts are their only choice.

Sure - on that basis, a jockey who wins the Everest or Golden Eagle in Australia would leapfrog most jockeys with significantly fewer wins. You can't use stakes as a guide to who is the best jockey, but you can use number of group and listed wins (to stop someone from the bush winning).

Unless Warren Kennedy is doing meth, he should have it in the bag. You could argue big race wins for Opie, but the rest...no chance.
