We have discussed this ad nauseam Huey , there is no way the CD or the SI have the winter numbers to make these tracks work , as race tracks that facilitate an improvement in betting turnover hence returns to the industry . We now have Cambridge , the largest training facility in the southern hemisphere , not being able to fill their fields , admittedly they did split one race . But 8 races , only 3 have full fields , and two of those have only 1 and 2 emergencies . Not exactly blowing us naysayers arguments apart . So if it is becoming a struggle up there how the hell can the others make them viable . But stay positive .

He's got one in today race 6 , at 31's , has won a trial and went a fair race last time at Otaki when stuck on the inside . Worth a gold coin .

A bit rough on Fasthorse .

That is the problem in a nutshell , we are on a constant repeat , season on season , we keep doing the same thing , programming , ratings are a shambles , nothing new and refreshing , but we all know how it ends when we keep following the old adage of keeping on doing the same thing . Large part of this driven by breeders , they want black type for their fillies and broodmares , if you look at our listed races especially , very poor races in main , Rotorua cup a prime example , they are just cornflakes black type .

Because the persons making the decisions have CV's no better than those they decide to employ . It's a rather large lazy susan of suits employing each other , they hop on and off at will .

Are you positive ?

The 2yo's are going to be interesting in the CD , only 6 at the jumpouts last week , none at the trials on Tuesday at Foxton . First 2yo race is at Wanganui on the 4th of September , 800mtrs , next race for them is nearly 6 weeks later at Palmy over 1100mtrs in the middle of October . So no incentive to get ready for Wanganui when you have to wait that long for the next one . As for the Haworth's i believe Emma is going to Latta's but i see the have had one down at Riccarton this week , might be having one last hurrah before pulling pin .Horowhenua getting thin on the ground for bigger stables , Searle , Zimmerman , Cookson all had decent sized numbers but all gone from the district , and don't believe Benner will staying till he retires . I kelly would probably have one of the bigger stables in the district now .

Many more to come Reefton , but we will be told that this and others are not an indication of a struggling industry , or that those charged with administering it are showing precious little idea of how dire the situation is , they are how ever showing that they have very little idea on how to improve it .

For sure it was more , the amount was what he lost out of his bank . Well usually the problem drinker is pissed so easier to pick up , behaviour , speech and steadiness on feet are obvious giveaways . The problem drinker usually can't hide it because they drink to excess . The problem pokie player is a bit tougher to pick up , no obvious signs . They know to be cunning in the way the go about it , wait to be served by different staff if they want cash there , take cash in with them , different outlets . And just because someone is at the machine for hours doesn't mean they are spending a lot , my old man could make $20 bucks last for ages just pottering around for fun , the problem gambler could blow $200 in 20 mins . I used this as an example of how does a community mitigate to stop this tragedy , or help anybody with an addiction , it's hard when people will do what they have to , to do what they want . I certainly wasn't comparing the 2 cases .

No runners in the 0-2 win steeple and only 4 in the mdn hurdle , so not a lot coming thru down south by the looks . Looks pretty dire for jumping for the SI .

None of that is stopping the addicts from what they are addicted to , all addicts find a way . Which was my point , you can't mitigate for everything , i.e. watch every move of someone to stop someone who is determined to to what they want to do . All of the above measures are things society puts in place to best protect not only the abuser but society as a whole , but we as a society will never be able to cover for the determined . As i mentioned , the terrible tragedy that happened in Timaru , how many times do we see this happen , yet for all the measures taken still can't stop it happening . Perhaps you would like to see all teenagers on curfews and wearing ankle bracelets as a draconian measure to try and stop this all together , even that wont prevent it occasionally happening tho , because teenagers are teenagers and will find a way . Which is my point , society , the family of the gambler all want someone to blame , the publican mainly , but really who is to blame for someone blowing 500k on pokies ? I'm sure you don't want someone telling you what or how to do what you want to do , like expressing your opinion , just like myself . P.S. I live under a very nice rock thank you , only the best for me .

Nobody wants to stop people gambling , there's too much money to be made . And you can't piecemeal it , as in you can bet on just certain mediums but not others , can all gambling or leave people alone to do as they please . I don't see people monitoring what the the addicted smokers or drinkers do . They all damage people , families and communities . People feck up their lives all the time , look at the Timaru crash last night , society can't mitigate for everything .

Numbers will dictate that , well on it's way . Considering the lack of jumping races in the SI since the start of the jumping season why would anybody bother having a jumper in the SI .

Retired after yesterday , sound but heart not in it , looked that way after his last start , but at least he is retiring in one piece , hope he has a grand retirement , fully deserved .

Are there signs of cracks in the Cambridge AWT training ranks?
nomates replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Just had a look at the trial videos , Entiviere and Imeratrize both extra impressive , both in for big campaigns , especially Entriviere , going straight to Aus i think , she might be one of the few sprinters from here to match up . -
I'll do it , get the cash , wait a couple of months , tell them SI jumping is fecked , spend cash . Easy peezy Japanesee . Not rocket science , as if they need to spend time asking questions .
-
Well we need to do the opposite of restricting Trainer numbers!
nomates replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
I have said it before , in maybe 15/20 years we will be a poor man's Hong Kong , with maybe 20/25 trainers training all horses and racing on a handfull of tracks . -

The bit i don't get , they wont race there during winter but are happy to run trials , fecked if i get it . -
Pretty sure oncourse presenters stayed in Ossie even thru covid . Wouldn't hold your breath on the racing coverage getting better on SENZ , but we can always hope .

They cost cut every form of information to the punter along with radio coverage and have turned trackside into budget TV , they have laid this cost back on the industry , but they still find the budget to advertise on many different TV channels for sports betting , we are but a back water in NZ sports .

You mean a service something like 18 months ago , whilst not world class it fulfilled a need , and while many will tell you it was costing the industry too much , the lack of broadcasting coverage is costing the industry far more thru lost customers hence lost revenue and a channel for bringing on new customers . Has been for years but certain decisions has made it more of a mountain to climb . But i'm staying positive that we have the personnel to climb that mountain , eh hem , honestly .
