So racing on a Saturday from 1 - 5 pm , well 3/4 races at each meeting could have been run at this time of the year by the time they start the racing show . And then in the summer most of our big races are run after 5pm along with the big Aussie racing , where apparently we bet more than here , a bit pointless . NZ racing is such a shambles , everything is done half arsed , and this is just a continuation . There was a time we were as good as any , or was it a dream ?

Great win Pam , well done , back it up with Celine Saturday eh .

The scary thing is i don't think the management actually get how bad a look it is , the splitting of races , or not , is just getting beyond a joke . After the money spent on the jumpers at the weekend to do what they have at Te Aroha is plain stupid . They look like a school fete committee . Perhaps we are seeing where some of the $2mil in bonus money is going . -

This just about sums up our management gurus , on love racings news brief section on Monday they post a story about the NZ bred horse in Asia called Killer Bee , then another story about Zed Em coming back to NZ , great reading . BUT , then they have a story about the increase in stakes just announced in Victoria , really , you are saying here guys we are just going to rub your noses in the shit and show you how well Aussie racing is travelling in comparison us and show you how shit we are managing your industry , just in case you didn't know . UnFuckingBelievable . Never seen McDonalds promoting how well KFC or Pizza Hut are doing , but our promotions department are setting new dimensions in PR . If we can't promote an increase in stakes for our participants then we'll show them how well the other lot are doing . I'm seriously underwhelmed again , becoming a regular thing . Someone put a positive spin on this please , give me some hope . -

So the brains trust couldn't stump up an extra 10k to split the mdn 1200 at Otaki so now a large number of horses are costing their owners 2 weeks training before they get another chance , BUT , BUT , they could split 14 hurdlers at Te Aroha into 2 fields of 7 , yes fecking 7 , with both races having a 15k stake . Absolutely fucking disgraceful , and i'm not knocking the hurdlers , but come on guys , WTFU . If this is their plan for getting racing back ? , then pack your bags now and find something else to spend your money on . These guys could turn Lotto into a losing business . -

And while BS is busy fecking around with social media the castle burns , Otaki overflowing with mdn nom's , They say they will split the two 1600 mile mdns , great , but there are 26 nom's for the mdn 1200 which they are not splitting , why ? FFS , 2 weeks before the next 1200 mdn in the CD , so the poor fecking owners who's horses miss out on Friday have to stump up another 2 weeks training to find themselves in the same position , because a lot of the ones that run on Friday will go to Waverley next as well , then you can add in the northern horses , so if your horse is battling to get a run on Friday , good luck going forward the way these monkeys manage racing . It's 10k , put it up and look after the owners you pricks . -

Whanganu's HOPELESS Track and NZTR's HOPELESS response
nomates replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
This i agree with , need to get something on the outside . As for getting the penetrometer , definitely when the surface is not affected by floods of rain , but when it's into winter you know what your getting there , been punting there for nearly 50 years , knowing the penetrometer would have no effect for me , i know what i'm looking for when it's heavy with recent rain . -
Whanganu's HOPELESS Track and NZTR's HOPELESS response
nomates replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
I backed 4 winners on Thursday , whilst i agree it's a poor look there are tracks everywhere , here and in Aus where i see horses heading for the widest part of the track . Do your form then hope the jocks do theirs , because it amazes me how many still think they can beat the Wanganui bias . -

Wonder if this will must read for the powers that be in NZ racing around the smoko table . Plus wouldn't be nice if one or more of our top trainers came out and slammed our mob for myopic thinking , instead of just worrying about the effect on their pockets . Give that man a pat on the back .- 1 reply

Just warched last nights racing myself , great viewing again . Thought Stradi was a bit unlucky , got badly held up coming to the turn , wouldn't have won but could have been a lot more interesting . Big day for the Scots , gold cup winner trained by Mark Johnston and owned by a Scotsman , also seen 2 young Scottish jocks won races on last nights card , good to see we can still breed a top jockey

Watched a 2yo win on the 2nd day , not a name trainer , cost 10,000 pounds and raced by a syndicate with a lot of them just average joes , some were in tears . Great viewing and what racing , for us minnows is what it is all about .
-
I had a little snooze between them jumping and finishing the 2nd race it was that slow .

This meeting is a great watch for sure , but look under the carpet and the mess is scary , some of there racing is running for less than us in NZ midweek , even at some of their Saturday race meetings , and their training fees aren't cheap , so you are definately racing for fun . Pretty much like NZ .

Are there signs of cracks in the Cambridge AWT training ranks?
nomates replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
From what i seen on Wednesday , and i was watching closely , the win pools were not big , certainly no bigger than any other midweeker , that was just the tote pool , perhaps they are dragging it in on fixed odds , perhaps not . As for the track , bloody hard to pick any sort of pattern , seen horses sit 4 wide and win seen horses lead/trail and win . If your back you have to go early and wide . The one major i have noticed is that the main thing is a clear trouble free run , where they can maintain momentum , saying that not many sprinting off it . And if your horse is not handling it you can soon see . Wont be getting much of my money , i will watch to see if i can pick one to back next start , got Johny Johny on Wed off the back of a tough run previous meeting sitting wide and sticking on , had a good draw Wed and got the lollies . Darci Palmer will get one next time , seems a better horse on it . -
Usually expensive quick fixes at that , that have completely depleted racings reserves . The worrying issue for me is the fact that racing still doesn't know what their share of distributions will be to confirm to participants what stakes will be next season , 5 weeks away . I would suggest if the numbers were glowing they would be shouting it from the roof tops , at the moment they aren't even squeaking from the basement .

The jumping situation is merely the precursor for the rest of the racing industry . None of the feeders at the top table nor the guys running it have done anything to allay the steady decline of anything in racing , just as the TAB has been unable to substantially improve betting turnovers , saying that they have been the makers of their own demise with some of their decision making and investments .
-
Saying that the open races are no better , 65k in stakes just 15 runners between them , an 8 and a 7 , 3 of the runners are rating 57 . Yet the R65 1400 has has 20 runners with 6 on the ballot and probably missing a run , get the 3 from the opens and you would have 2 races with 10+ runners , surely better for betting . Maybe i'm just in a grumbly mood today , but our lack of numbers is a serious concern .

TAB-NZ - Bloopers, bugs and general stuff ups.
nomates replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
I'm an older bugger now and have seen plenty over the years so it takes a fair bit to astound me now . -
Just seen the fields for Palmy on Saturday and the jumping races are abysmal , 28 horses competing for 120k . For an industry struggling for funds this isn't a good look or use of resources . I am a huge jumping fan , one of the great racing spectacles is watching the Wellington jumps races from the top of the public stand , but the decline nationally is scary , is it time to just say enough is enough .

To prove a point , that the NZTAB thinks we are all just a load of junked up gambling addicts , today they have gone from offering a bonus back if your horse runs 2/3/4th , to saying just back number 1 and if it runs 2/3/4th you will get a bonus bet . Don't worry about studying form or any of that other shit just gives us your money on number 1 and we will look after you . Their lack of understanding really does astound me , regularly now . -

And what if the vet had said , no it's fine you can give right up to the day of the race , which could easily have been the situation given the lack of knowledge around the substance . My point being vets shouldn't just be able to walk away with no accountability in these situations , highly paid professionals . -

WTF is 5.6 days , christ you've got to stand there with a calculater and watch to work it now . And why the Feck isn't everything on the list , for christ sake it's just looking like laziness or amatuer hour . So if you a trainer don't rely on your vet knowing or being able to find out , jeeezzzuuus , maaarrryyy and cchhhrriiissssttt . -

And what happened to the vet ? Are they not working within the racing industry when administering to racehorses ? Mark should not have had to carry this on his own , not when your paying big bloody dollars to a so called fully qualified professional and relying on them to know their job . Christ there is trainers i know that are barely literate , and they are supposed to know this shit , give me a fecking break .
