  1. Don't know why yp would be surprised at Bossons comment , it was my first thought , she has been up a long time without any substantial spell , then a flight to Aus . She will be even better next prep with the trip under her belt . As for Probabeel , i think the other mare was race hard and also has a very good track record , won a Donny , so she is no slug , they beat the rest pretty easy . Definately the track had a lot more give in it than many were expecting , which worked for the Pom in the QE stakes .
  2. Just watched the 2nd at Invercargill , Kin Kwo was riding Flying Sardine , about to have the above conversation .
  3. All of the above relies on the one vital ingredient , HORSES . Not just the ones that are there but a substantial increase in the numbers arriving to be trained there . It's a plan based on hope with no sound reasoning , which has been a staple principle of NZ horse racing management for decades .
  4. Bugger my wife and i had thought great we'll go , night racing back on the agenda . We were going to take torches just incase . Thought maybe this was one NZTR/TAB secret ideas to rejuvinate NZ racing and turnover .
  5. Got an amazing turn of foot , that's what you need against the Aussies . Gonna be a great watch this arvo strap yourselfs in . I see Te Rapa slow 8 and showery , the G1 opens up a bit , starting to like Covetina Bay with the way the track is going . Sydney and 2 pretty good NZ meetings , as good as it has been for a little while .
  6. Apparently under a JCA review , more amatuerism in NZ racing . This should be reversed , should never have happened .
  7. Te Akau and JR got a big day in front of them , got the favorite in 3 races in Sydney .
  8. The good track is going to level it out a bit , made it a lot more interesting .
  9. They wouldn't have enough hours in the day to deal with all the questions about why they didn't do the obvious , god knows i sit there on race day doing my nut at some of the decision making , make that most of it . The most regularly asked question would be " why didn't you move sooner when you were so far back " . Most regular answer " i was waiting for the ones in front to move because i wasn't sure when i should go " .
  10. They are going to run shuttles between Awapuni and Riccarton to make sure fields are full .
  11. So there is the problem , the rest have to sell properties before they can move , if the want to , if they can up root family , if they don't have partners that don't have other employement that subsidizes the training . I'm sure NZTR aren't going to subsidize any loss of income or moving costs .
  12. How many horses at Rangiora ? And they wont all go to Riccarton , not everyone wants to live in the big smoke . There's Ashburton so some will go there . What about the ones that own their own property , what do they do , sell up , hard selling stables when no track to train on . What if some of them and/or their parners have supplimentary employement to get buy , or kids at school . Lots of if's and maybe's . They are spending money that isn't guaranteed to come in , the whole thing is based on shaky supposition . As ever .
  13. What happens if numbers drop by say 25% , that's a lot of revenue gone , what then , everybody else get a fee increase maybe . This is what happens when no structured financial plan is in place , everything becomes conjecture . Pam you say 200 horses in work , Mr P says the model is 300 , huge difference considering the figures involved , what happens if your numbers are correct ?
  14. Going on those numbers i see you and Mr P aren't on the same page . I'm pretty sure i know which one is painting the pretty picture . History shows no track makes large amounts of money , Cambridge possibly .
  15. I think you under estimate the amount of marketing that is required to convince the majority of industry participants that these A/W's are racing's solve , those with access to these tracks think it's great , i wonder why that could be ? The vast majority struggling along at one of the great unwashed tracks i can assure believe this more gross mismanagement .
  16. If the money's right i'm up for it . Can't have the heels to high tho , 6'4" already .
  17. Is the pool of top management that thin in NZ , or do they just not bother looking outside their little circle . It's just incestuous .
  18. Money to employ someone that goes around patting them on the back and massaging their ego's .
  19. Took the words straight outa my mouth , their problem tho is they are not shrew enough to play smoke and mirrors , they just put out some lumpy , mushy PR spin . If we asked for more detail their answer would be along the lines of " commercially sensitive " , what they don't understand is no one see's them as competion .
  20. All of the above or maybe something more obscure , but maybe if they put out a statement on what they were trying to achieve they wouldn't cop so much shit .
  21. CS , i see you've started this thread twice . Long day eh .
  22. YAWN , wake me when they do something serious that will impact racing in a positive way . It's like these suits are all sitting on a " lazy susan turntable " and just taking turns hopping on and off , never landing on the same position . Maybe Monopoly would be a better board for the , where all squares say " go directly to jail , do not collect Fuck all .
  23. That's why you need a V'Landys , he comes in makes all the decisions , takes no shit . He done it with NSW racing , He's done it with the NRL , yea a lot of moaners , but when he's getting it right they have SFA to bitch about . I reckon if you offered him enough he would take a serious look . We might look like a battle field for a while , but as i said as long as people know that it's short term pain for long term gain , they will jump on board . The biggest hurdle would be that the people who could try and get him or someone like him in , don't want to because he will show them up as the incompetants that they are . Yet again , self interest .
  24. The only thing i would say in regards the big stables and studs , their self interest keeps them mute , i don't believe they are telling the power mugs that they are right , it's just that they are not saying strongly enough " you guys are Fucking it up " , i just believe that they are doing sweet and don't want to rock the boat . David Ellis talks it up because he wants to syndicate horses . Where as i see it as their duty to stand up for the small guys and the betterment of the industry . If things get so bad that there was a collapse the studs will be fine , the big stables , well Baker is retiring shortly , Foresman moves to Aus , he has a reputation so wont battle for patronage , same with Te Akau and JR , and Marsh and the others , they have money behind to start up . The position the top guys hold demands that they start speaking up loudly and long , but as with everything else in this world , money rules .
