Agree about Wild Excuse.Only lead up race was Methven cup where I think 3rd but needed line up at Ashburton or Kaikoura and finish in top 5.I see a few are moaning about it not getting it but the rankings have been out for months and if they really wanted a start the ball was in their court to front up
I would say back to the all weather and all things being equal Self Assured wins.Done the work at Methven and if you swapped him and Spankem I dont think Spankem would have won.
Grass looks shorter than when they last raced here, thank god.Last time a few drivers mentioned their horses couldn't quicken properly with the long grass
A couple I like at nice odds are
R7 Bettor Believe It-Won so well last start after some nice trials that I cant see any reason why it wont win again.
R11 Franco Josiah-Has a good motor on him and seems to be trotting well at the moment.
Others at shorter odds but due wins are
R2 Queen of Strathfield
R4 Harrison
R5 Better Fly
R6 Madam Sass-the enigma horse,if it ever trots all the way it will win.Not sure how it has been allowed to gallop so many times without having to trial satisfactorily
Tinwald/Hinds used to have some great trainers.Doody Townley,Hugh Lowe,Riper Read,Slim Dykman,Jim Ferguson,Kevin Townley,Graham Neill,Tony Robb,Brian Saunders,Paul Grieve,Doug McCormick and many more
Paul actually trained from Hinds,he basically inherited Hughie Lowes team, which was a very good breed.
Paul was very good junior driver but never really made it as a trainer
Great to see the McCormack.name still winning races.Lived and worked in trotting stables in Tinwald for many years.Tinwald Tavern used to be my 2nd home as HunterthePunter well knows
R1 Bettor Believe It -$5.20/$2 Couple nice trial wins and looks a nice type, bad draw may not stop it
R4 Texas Tara-$4.40/$1.85 Nice horse with nice draw from nice stable who was well backed first start
R7 Woodstone -$5.50/$1.95 Big run Ordeal Cup,if trots all way can win
R9 Geotgie Zukov-$7/$2.50 Talented horse lightly raced who loves grass but gives some nice sorts a start, however definitely big chance
R11 Madam Sass-$8.50/$2.90 Yet another Dunn trotter huge on ability and if caught in right mood probably wins
R12 Pro Surfer-$2.30/$1.40 Only the draw beats it.Bet of the day
Happy punting.
Grass tracks dont usually turn me on much but for some reason quite excited about this meeting. Will be good to see crowds back
I'm happy for country clubs to be racing but most are run at a loss to the tab and are so weather dependent to get people there.
Omakau,Kaikoura, etc are no fun in the wet.So maybe we need to look at who covers costs to the club and TAB
Great to see this top mare back.
Love seeing good horses on the comeback trail.
Bet Hunter the Punter will be happy to get her racing again in NZ after a stint in Aussie and a year long break.
