  1. Nah.... that is not McKendry lol..... another clue please.
  2. Wish the club had thought about involving the average battler. People involved in 'Buying and/or Owning' a slot can race a great horse once a year in partnership with it's real owners. a very good concept to get some new people involved in the industry (or just have a fun day out each Easter) For the Battler the club should of had a promotions person draw 'Ambassadors' for each runner from the general public , like a lottery , and have prizes scaling down from 1st to last provided by sponsors. EVERYONE could get involved then . and 10 or 9 is it this year lucky people could also be involved in a runner for THE RACE. (someone at BOAY could of had a runner would be cool lol..)
  3. An excellent guess Ranga but incorrect. Amazing the headgear of Skipper Dale is quite similar to his regular rival who ran 2nd to Camelot in the NZ Cup. (That you haven't named yet) Here's a photo of your boy Skipper Dale, in 1987 winning an Addington Interdominion Heat with his rival (The Easter Cup winner you have to name) in similar head-gear running a place yet again , always the bridesmaid ) picture I can't get clear off UTube unfortunately. Skipper Dale winning on the right . On the far left is My Lightning Blue in this heat. Running last . Definitely Not a sign of things to come !!! lol. Skipper Dale 4th in the Grand Final was first kiwi home. !!!
  4. Victory for Gammalite !!! At last i have stumped the great Rangatira. !! thought that would never happen. The brilliant SKIPPER DALE did win the Easter Cups for 2 years just after our horse in the Camelot photo . Gammalite was in that race too behind Camelot NZ Cup , but not good enough on that day. A few of them hit the deck rather heavily too. Squeezed in-between the three Hands Down Easter Cup wins and Skipper Dales 2 Cup wins, the horse in question stopped Hands Down from winning a 4th Easter Cup. Here he comes now in a great Easter Cup finish. This will help you Ranga !!!! He kept up with the 'Jonses' and then beat both of them lol. Anthony Butt I think, and the late great Derek Jones in 2nd and 3rd.
  5. Used to be a great race? that showcased many a NZ Cup chance . Tuned up in the Autumn for a Spring NZ Cup carnival assault. What has happened to it ? Not on the card this Saturday ? A country championship final is the highlight ? seems NZ Metropolitan club gone quiet like Auckland TC then. Well here's a Nice Horse that nearly won the NZ Cup after winning a fantastic Easter Cup . quiz to see if anyone remembers him. Seen here running 2nd to Robin Butt's horse in this photo. (Ranga will eat this up for sure, in recognising that headgear lol) Trainer still going around too these days. Who is it ? (horse and trainer/driver)
  6. Whata a classic !! nothing like stopping for a pick of grass while out for a jog hehehe
  7. Personally I think the quality of the trainer is Directly relevant to the racing ability of the horse. Both NZ and Aus breeding is directly influenced by the American bloodlines. The training (and race placement) is the key to winning races , as you have pointed out with Daggy Lamb. You choose to 'shoot' the opposition , rather than credit the New trainer. A political point of view by you. Perhaps you should sign up with the Opposition parties to Jacinda and make a quid with that tactic.? lol..... Gammalite being trained by a 'mug' oz trainer O'Connor (but still winning a $1,000,000 and Village Kid (also trained by a 'mug' trainer , a butcher actually) and winning $2,000,000 , Blacks a Fake (trained by a young QLD lass) I rate as the 3 best horses seen in my lifetime. (followed closely by Maori's Idol and Popular Alm ) so that's 4 Aussies and One expat NZer (the Kid) so like you, this has forced me into bias !!! lol...... How good are even the 'mug' Aussie trainers to get Gammalite and Village Kid smashing out Interdominions, Auckland Cups, and Miracle Miles etc. ? something for Daggy Nz Lamb to aspire too. ??? The last Interdominion saw the 'KING' de-throned by an old claimer horse. What an exceptional trainer that Grimson is ?? will he win The RACE too ? maybe.....
  8. No I didn't say that at all. I haven't bagged any trainers personally. Woodend Beach seems to cop a lot of 'flak' by a lot of kiwi observers over there it seems . BUT Not from me. The leading NZ stable and trainers of Sundees Son (near greatest trotter of all time the way he is going ) deserve my FULL respect. You are showing disrespect for something you know little about. Have you ever trained in Aus ?? or even been to an Australian training operation. They are amazing. I'm in total awe of these fantastic trainers that race 5 days per week all around the nation, and get EXCELLENT results. AND don't deserve your 'OFF THE Money' misinformed Assessment lol...starting with Vinny Knight as soon as I arrived. The up-standard in Melbourne from what I participated in in NZ was extreme in my experienced opinion. I can name 10 stables straight up , that have around 50 horses in work each (including my locals Dixon (who has 80, McMullen Barnes, Rasmussen ) and they have about 20 horses each running 1.55 and better week to week. I could take you on a state to state assessment of results but you're FAR to biased. What for? I don't know. Been some very impressive training feats IMO. yesyes yes Allstars are good too. and could beat the Aussies no doubt. (One of them is an Aussie lol.) but who cares ?lol... Go Big or Go home lol. Go THE RACE !!!! what a great concept. great to see some Oz reps ? lol......
  9. Your belief is Not on the money once again. Having prepared horses in both countries at a variety of stables I can say your 'quite the opposite in fact' is a blot on your knowledge. some huge operations in Aus do an amazing job over the years and I wouldn't put them behind NZ is a little mis-informed. Another badly off the money comment. Most standardbred Sales to Australia are FAR FAR from reaching their mark. Many are sold off after one win in the NZ deep south under the watchful eye of the WA 'Bond' and 'Hall' juggernauts as one example, but the VAST majority are purchased at a loose assessment. thought you would know that?. Older type's like Triple Eight and Star Gallaria, Bad to the Bone , etc are still often raced by the NZ connections as have reached their mark (in both countries, ) so are not an ideal sellable commodity. Will you ever be on the money again ?? i'm giving up hope
  10. Brodie , once again you are IGNORING the fact that horses are BETTER placed in Oz by astute trainers !!!! That's the point Marky Mark is making. I WOULD NOT race my horse in a lot of those places in NZ , like rough grass tracks and long distance races , and standing starts and the Many things NZ trainers do to their horse. It Flattens them mate !!, they lose confidence in those big fields mate !! no wonder so many are out of form??? and no wonder they easily 'find form' with shorter distance racing (that you constantly criticise amongst other things) , smaller fields , better grades/ class racing and better placement and training in Australia. and you say you can bet 6 figures on them in NZ ? lol... better your money than smart punters money I spose. lol....
  11. From Tuesday even Aussies can come on over to kiwiland. 55,000 used Brisbane airport yesterday for Easter holidays going all over the place. Took kids there and they flew off to Melbourne and Adelaide. NZ will be swamped shortly no doubt.. Hopefully a few will go over to support THE RACE , (and someone can knock Mark off) doesn't win as much as he used to . I see Nicky Chilcott beat him at Auckland the other night. Hope for All afterall.
  12. Best ride I've ever seen. Take a Bow Nash Rawiller !! A field of very smart wet-trackers.... Nash wins the race with the non-mudder by daring solo tactic !!! THINK IT OVER is exciting Queen Elizabeth winner . how good was that ??? supreme.
  13. Not sure what you are let get under your skin there. Yes the Gold Coast harness/greyhounds tracks was a sad demise for the Commonwealth games 2018. If talking racing , I would say the Racing and Harness racing are First class in Australia still, VERy very Big race day today with Sydney Cup etc.... (along with a multitude of other sports. 100,000 going to the grand Prix this weekend, and 200,000 attend the footy each week etc, better than living Ukraine ? lol.... 600,000 kiwi nationals live in Aus. They can't all be wrong???. Perhaps they will back the NZ champion Verry Elleegant today and get a great run for their money. 'Copy That' is back too. Just see he won the First at Riccarton today !!!! lol... good trainers those kiwis ? get em to do all sorts of things lol.
  14. Young kiwi lad Jack Mackinnon (26) has turned up in Victoria with a hot trotter too. Why not have something on SILVER POWER in Bendigo Trotters Cup tonight (11.30 NZ time I think)? defeated by a good one first up in Aus named I'm Ready Jet (who is not in tonight) Maybe Jack can take out the Group 2 for another Big NZ win ?? best of luck to him anyways..
  15. Not a bad bet in that field. Very fortunate the favourite took the leader on a lap out for Sam, but 4 lengths win in the end for HOT TO TROT. very convincing and nice. Love Sam's driving myself (and what a Great Name for a Trotter lol... ) Hey ! should we double up on Anamoe now ?? good luck if having a crack again.!!! solid field with the NZ champ Verry Elleegant involved as well. will be a cracker .
  16. With Sam Ottley driving HOT TO TROT to win the first race at Addington , once again proving the mobile is the true asset in helping get horses on the journey and competitive. The Queensland trotting Championship Group 3 was completed just now and some great old NZ horses did have great manners from the stand as it turned out. REGAL APPOINTMENT with the best trainer driver Grant Dixon taking the victory , trotting very well after leaving NZ after a Methven win last Christmas. second best trainer Pete McMullen running second with an old 'Barron family' trotter in 'Riley Moment'. also in the field were some old kiwi 'fav's' in Majestic Harry, Mikemaro, Father Christmas, BD Khaosan etc, so was like a regular old 'South Island' line-up at Albion !!. great stuff.
  17. 'Young Quinn' for New Zealand did as well (win from outside 6 alley) in the 70's. A fair effort to do that at the old Harold Park track in Sydney with fairly tight turns (it closed 2010)
  18. Yes in that photo of Locarno, number 9 deep down on the rail running 3rd is WATBRO (Alex Milne) from the far far south. Haughty Romeo from down that way I think , was also in the field. They travelled a long way to have a crack at the Messenger for many years. Please leave it for 4 yearolds . You need 'Age' classics (apart from the Jewels) to keep exciting racing going . (and just a few dominating)
  19. Great to see people remember the flashy one ! after 40 + years . Locarno winning the Messenger on my very first night out at the harness racing , at Alexandra Park 1978. Brilliant racing at Christmas every year. Was there to see more South Islanders Tempest Tiger and Melton Monarch take out the Messenger through the following years too. Great to see the Derby horses progress. Locarno went on to take a Miracle Mile against some of the best ever in Aus. (pure Steel, Paleface Adios, Koala King) Here's a great memory photo !!!! excellent.
  20. Arden Rooney as well for the NZ Cup (or is he still a NZer ???) mmmmmm lol.
  21. Yes and with Alto Orlando raced by Robert and John Dunn (pretty well known in Canterbury) you could say it's a NZ victory ! Personally i always give most credit to the 'Training' team . but all good . still love a NZ victory !!!
  22. How cool is that !! Great to see some Aussies flying in , to try and kick some kiwi butt and pluck THE Race at it's inaugural running. Grimson managed to win the Interdominion with a claimer so must be a sharp Trainer and go close to the win. Gammalite, My Lightning Blue, I'mTheMighty Quinn , Westburn Grant, Smoken Up and Our SirVancelot were all a fair while ago now , flying over to win the Very Big races in NZ for Aussie trainers ............ so lets add to that list !!! lol..... lets go Majestic Cruiser, (and Orlando and Memphis)
  23. Yes Thor on the left and Rusty on the right are Immortals I believe. lol.. Desert Gold ? she was pretty good back in the day (a few Group 1's and 36 wins from 59 runs) from that area somewhere.
  24. Yeah Steve sadly missed (bloody stingray) amongst some fine Aussie lads that do a lot to put Oz on the map. Warnie pretty handy with his balls in his day too, had a big send-off last night at MCG with 60,000 attending. In the harness world we lost Gavin Lang and Vinnie Knight much too young.
  25. I don't know Michael House Brodster ,, but I Love him !! lol....... anyone that does something pro-active to keep harness racing alive anywhere (including Manawatu where I haven't been actually) is a 'Gun' 'Top' bloke IMO, like Steve Irwin lol. And I know a lot here hate Auckland trots etc, but shouldn't wish it closed ....there's great tradition involved ,what a track it's been, wrong way round and all !!!!! Surely some 'Ingenious kiwis' are plotting how to keep it going ? Can we get Michael House to campaign some teams up there ?? what a legend.. wishing him (MH) many a winner chicken dinner !! (and yourself too of course)
