  1. Some more 'I for Incredible' horses......... Q3/ This horse whizzed around Harold Park in the quickest Miracle Mile ever run there. They shifted the race to Menangle around 2010. Q4/ This horse was good enough to make it on to a NZ postage stamp , along with Blossom Lady at the same time those postage stamps were issued. And the Aussie to have a crack at the kiwis.? Q5 This kiwi bred horse had a few raids to Nz I think and was the beneficiary of the 'First past the Post' Aussie being disqualified in an Auckland feature. Perhaps the first part of his name was dropped while racing in NZ? but he had it tagged on racing in Oz.
  2. Quiz day is up to the I horses and I Can Doosit has already trotted in first place. Q2/ Photo clue from this beautiful painting was anyone alive when this bloke was winning ? lol....
  3. If you want a good trotter for the 'I's we are up to today,............ so name begins I. Q1/ Can you name one of the all time greats trotting to multiple Dominion Hcp',Rowe and Interdom glory? (s)
  4. We did do a few trotters at the 'D's giving David Moss (2 Dominions) and Diamond Field a mention from the 90's. Also a beaut photo of Easton Light in the E section too, who won 2 Dominions. There sure are great trotters every year in NZ as time goes by.
  5. AMORE VITA is a stunning performer already. Steve and Nathan P must be stoked. Queensland Oaks will be a mere formality. winning 9 of last 10 starts now, and 3rd in the NSW Oaks in the other when driven aggressively. The Queensland Derby won't be hers though , as Grant Dixon has told me he has the next 'Champion of Australia' and will be sweeping all before him soon with LEAP OF FAME. 11 wins from 14 so far including a 4 length win in the NSW Derby at his last start. Can't wait to see him go shortly......
  6. Barry and Greyhound have cleaned up today with some of the greats with 100% correct answers. Highland Fling and Harold Logan both with the 2 Nz Cups each. The second one on both occasions was off an astounding 60 yard handicap. Great mare Haughty also with 2 NZ Cup wins and the second off 36yards for Ben Grice. Hands Down coming back at Delightful Lady to win his NZ Cup in the photo , in front of a full Addington house , after being headed off by near a length as they turned for home. Great effort by Peter Jones there to judge it so well. (also great effort by Mike Stormont and the lady off an un-fair handicap in that race)
  7. To kick off 'H' day we have some beauties. The Nz Harness racing Hall of Fame has eleven horses inducted . (Including Cardigan Bay and Caduceus of course) TWO others of the inaugural band of 6 Inductees were great 'H' horses. Q1/ and...... Q2/ are name these 2 great horses that are Hall of Famers ? Q3/ Both these horses achieved the SAME remarkable feat in their racing days . What was it ? Q4/ I think this horse that achieved that same feat (well was less a few yards but very close) should of been a Hall of Famer as well. Who was she ? Q5/ this great horse was once one of the most recognisable faces in harness racing. Here he co-incidently is beating one of the 11 'Nz Hall of Fame' Inductees. Who is he ? and the Aussie ????? Q6/ This great horse was undeated in NZ when he came to your shores. winning 3 out of 3 (and it possible could of been 4 if he didn't scratch from the 4th race)
  8. Great work by you there mate. You always said take the Captain for a place through the whole carnival and at $6 or $7 for the place last night you were on the money !! alas Gammalite thought Mach Shard was a certainty and got sweet nothing . MShard did ok coming around the field , parked out last lap, loomed up to leader turning in , faded late. Turn It Up got held up until late. A Young girl driver from Victoria won it on a heavily backed runner.
  9. A very nice run tonight but a few of the 6 wins were just loose class mares races with only about 6 starters. Much better tonight for NZ, were Nathan Purdon winning the Redcliffe Oaks with Nz owned 'Amore Vita' and 'The Honey Queen' won easily for Nz owners John and Trish Green with Luke McCarthy training her now. 'Mach Shard 'and 'Turn It Up' (a coupe of big winning kiwis) were 4th and 5th from handicaps in the Redcliffe Cup. I thought they would run the quinella easily..... But Amazingly the HANDICAP system still works >> and they unfortunately were beaten a length from the standing start, by the runners that were in the first 3 positions along the fence , during the run. Old kiwi horse DEUS EX hated the standing start and took off in the other direction at the start . Just craziness with a mobile parked just metres away.......
  10. yep . won Easter Cup and Quinella in NZ Cup with stablemate Facta Non Verba Yep. Gold Ace had 4 campaigns in Oz as well (winning another 6 races) The boys are onto it . A good tip coming up for G day. Just sat down to watch tele and GRANDSLAM came on . perhaps an Omen bet for Caulfield coming up in a few minutes (and was didcussing the harness grandslam earlier in week .
  11. 'G' for Go day , and here we have a couple of kiwis and a couple of Aussies. Can you pick them from the clues in todays quiz ? Q1/ This bloke won a whole swag of races on both sides of the Tasman and especially as a three year old he gave it to the 'Terror' in some Group 1's and banked near 1/2 mill that year. Q2/ This horse started in about 30 Group races but only ever won 2 of them. 3200m stands at Addington were both of those. and one was a surprise stable Quinella paying $200 odd... The Aussies to of raced in NZ. Q3/ Greatest of all to race there ? well everyone knows the answer to that one at Gammalite lol. Although a couple of 'pretenders' tried to upstage the Gammalite Interdominion- Auckland Cup double . I'm ThemightyQuinn just being a 'guts' with an Interdominion and 2 Auckland Cups ! WTF. and My Lightning Blue the Addington Interdominion with NZ Cup double. boring.... Just disgraceful that they would do that lol... Q4/ Another Aussie sneaked an Interdominion at Addington too?. who was that ? seemed Half the field was 'doped-up' though and disqualified lol. so this Vic pacer didn't have to do it tough like 'Gamma' and beat some of the greats like Popular Alm, Delightful Lady and Armalight (2nd, 3rd and 4th in his Inter win) 😉😉
  12. The actual event was Halwes pinced with a nail to hop around for an hour or 2 in front of the stewards on grand Final Day. (Very easy to do) nail pulled out and horse fine hours later , as you would be with thorn in finger for example, and Aub received twice the prizemoney the Grand Final win would of given him.
  13. Correct Barry. FOR A REASON 3rd to Adore Me in the 2014 Nz Cup for Luke. Also 3rd in 2 x Interdominion finals to Beautide at Menangle for some more 'History does Repeat ' at times..
  14. Spot on Greyhound !! Halwes won the Miracle mile soon after (the second running of the great race in front of a huge crowd) by about 8 lengths from First Lee (the brand new Interdominion Champion) who ran 2nd. Don't feel sad for Halwes though. Aub (Halwes owner/trainer) was quite happy to take the money offered from NSW bookies not to start at Auckland. My dad travelled with him from Tassie. Dad said he was never sure if the same thing happened the year before at Perth (where a heavily backed Binshaw had won the series) when Halwes was 'withdrawn' during that series as well. Bit of a Phar Lap Caulfield Cup type of thing .....
  15. Wishing that young rider a speedy recovery. sounds an awful injury and the pain must of been extreme. Heaps of folk in ambulances get 'ramped' in Australia. (stuck in the vehicle parked on the ramp at hospital to emergency , until they can squeeze them in). growing popualation = growing problem alas.... Love the ambo's . what a job they do. Rang an ambulance just last night actually, as old 95 year old bloke I tend to daily who lives alone in own house still , suddenly couldn't get out of the chair or hold his feet. thought 'stroke' of some kind. poor bloke got a bit distressed as you would , and ambo's arrived in 5 minutes. very thorough and professional. had to wait 3 hours for admission after though, as hospitals are chock full of covid/ flu compromised people all over the place in these parts.
  16. "F" for Friday . and some F first letter of name horses to figure out in the daily quiz. Can anyone guess these five fine fab fantastic 'F' horses today ? have a crack at one , or 2 of these then................ Q1/ This horse was famous for one of those miraculous runs in the Cup , whereas Lord Module and the 'Terror' still managed to Win after breaking and giving away 50m at the start, this bloke gave away 80m approx and missed the win by a head. He may of raced without hopples? Q2/ Speaking of Lord Module , Cecil loved a NZ Cup win and didn't the number 2 quiz horse deliver that ? what a ripper his F horse was , was on the backmark with Caduceus in that horses famous Harold Park Interdom Win too.. Q3/ Before Barry became the legend partnership trainer with dad Roy , he won the Kaikoura Cup of all things as a junior driver lol..... with this horse. and Aussies to have raided NZ shores......... Q4/ Luke McCarthy tried to do a 'Gammalite' and have a crack at the NZ Cup with this bloke but came up just short. (suffered The same fate in the Interdominion at his home track too) Q5/ This horse of Newman's was truly blessed, as 1/2 a century ago a Tasmanian was running records in Auckland but scratched from the Grand Final when a Red Hot Favourite. allowing this 'visitor from Oz' to take the spoils instead.
  17. An interesting one Mikey. Haven't heard of it before but seems she was very competitive running places against some top notch trotters like Petite Evander, Easton Light, Cee Ar, Best Bet , Waipounamu and more in the 70's.
  18. E day and a picture Clue for the Trotter lovers out there kindly supplied by Rangatira. We were chatting on the wrong thread (apologies to Davis) Q1/ Who is this grand old trotter? Q2/ Hammering out some Huge wins at Auckland and being the best in the land, Alas another North islander twarted the big Cup dreams at Addington on 2 occasions, with this horse. and The Aussie to of raced in NZ Q3/ This handy 'E' Aussie came over to Nz on a Derby hunt. Winning one of his 3 starts (because the great Mark Purdon drove him on that occasion.) but ran down the track when another Aussie horse took out that GN Derby 2 weeks later. a tricky one for you guys? answer one , two or all three to join in on the daily quiz
  19. Well to complete the D-Day a special mention to DELIGHTFUL LADY, Gammalite beating her on her home turf into 3rd place in the huge 1983 Interdominion final but was there to see her win somewhere between 20 to 40 races at Alexandra Park and the fans would bash the panels in the grandstand that hard you would of thought the stand would fall down and the noise was just incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Q6/ Name Delightful Lady's full sister who was a trotter and won many to the surprise of many to complete our D day trotters memory?
  20. I believe Robert was the trainer of 'Just An Excuse' .... (also unlikely to be seen in an amateur drivers race. Double Trouble for Elsu in a feature ??? You must be on to it now?. or you should be 6 months in a leaky boat lol...
  21. He's a Legend ok 😉 for getting it all confused lol....
  22. That's our Boy Ranga .!!!! won't see him in an Amateur drivers race lol..... Bet the connections are pissed with Robert Mitchell. Split Enz said "History Never Repeats" but they are WRONG lol....... why?
  23. Yes , only one win (and this 2nd placing in the Methven 2 year old ) for the Nyhan's in it's career . You are the legend of NZ harness Ranga !!!! ENTERPRISE going on to bigger and better things including an easy Auckland Cup win with Wolfie driving . great night out that was lol....
  24. Incorrect my friend !!!! but great try .... you should of been thinking North Island Champion . Here's your boy . If you can name the second placegetter ,(also an 'E' horse I'll be totally impressed !!! as will the world lol...... And the great Interdominion Winner slipped by your grasp lol........
  25. That was as easy a win as you will ever see. Hey Ranga , you are the best on this site at knowing horses soam surprised you haven't popped up on my A-Z quiz. I bet $1 you can name the best 'E' horse for tomorrow before I give the clue even lol hahaha. I dare you to post the photo of him now in advance ???
