Can't remember who it was , probably the Galah, who can spot a great drive , but a few customers posted on the Brilliant drive by BEN HOPE to win that spectacular Group 1 NZ trotting Championship FFA Trot on April 9th , and win his first Group 1 race. Muscle Mountain ran down the best in the land Sundee's Son and Bolt for Brilliance , with absolute ' Peach ' of a drive. So BEN HOPE get's a nomination . (at the time HunterTPunter picked the Q , so nominated on his behalf )

wonderful idea Jonsey !!!, and sure to get some fantastic nominations. Sheryl Wigg being one already. Naturally , the Amazing drive ,by the amazing driver Mark Purdon on the AMAZING DREAM to win the Auckland Cup with a 10/10 drive in that feature on Dec 31st, is what Many will say fits the bill of season's brilliant drive.?? BUT To Surprise You lol... , I'm going for a Brilliant drive to WIN a Group 1 , that actually beat Mark and Amazing Dream back into 2nd place , while that grand mare was still at her peak , not long after that Auckland Cup victory. KIRSTIN BARCLAY with Watch Me Now, only a moderately performing horse, and Winning the NZ Standardbred breeders stakes on 12th FEB . check out the drive from the impossible 8 barrier draw!, and then running down Mark and Amazing Dream in full flight . (Who does that ???) no-one ? except Kirstin. well worth a nomination.

Unbeaten as a four year old . 12 starts 12 wins for Royden Glen (including Auckland Cup) so a brilliant training effort by Fred Fletcher. Can never forget that derby crash. Royden Glen was on the deck for 10 minutes or more lashing out. Nearly took out a hall of famer in Charlie Hunter ONZM (Young Quinn's trainer) check this following report for how close a call these amazing men and women can have at times. Displayed in a corner of the Hall Of Fame is the helmet that saved Hunter's life during the most sickening racing fall in New Zealand history. In the 1984 New Zealand Derby nine of the 14 horses crashed at full speed directly in front of a packed grandstand at Addington.Hunter, driving Tucker's Rule, was caught at the bottom of the carnage, with champion pacer Roydon Glen trashing out with his legs and repeatedly kicking Hunter in the head.Hunter broke his sternum and ribs and his lungs were punctured. But the cracked helmet that sits in the Hall Of Fame saved his life.

Absolute machines that gave it everything. and some not big horses either. SIR CASTLETON , was 3rd in that Auckland Trotting Grandfinal above, but went to South Australia Interdominion, the following year and Defeated the great Scotch Notch with a brilliant sprint Win. also For NZ and the late master trainer himself, Derek Jones NZMM and his son Peter from Canterbury , the fine trotter TUSSLE ran a great 3rd. !! TUSSLE went on to get her moment in the Spotlight too. Winning the her 'home' Trot Final at Addington 87 where Cliff Irvine had taken her over. fantastic trotter. btw. Scotch Notch beat Sir Castleton in her 'Home' Trot Grand Final too at Moonee Valley the year after SA. making it 2 Quinellas for the 'pocket rockets' after narrowly missing the Akld one. Two quite small trotters that were 2 of the Australasian greats ever . A wonderful Era .

At Interdominion Auckland 1983 . First round of Trotters heats, McSHANE beating the subsequent Grand Final winner SCOTCH NOTCH (one of the Aussie greats of All Time for the late Graeme Lang) . McSHANE was 8th in the Trotting Grand Final. Notice the first Pacers Heat in photo, going to speedy Queenlander "WONDAI's MATE" (73 wins from 121 starts) beating the grand NZ Cup winners Bonnie's Chance and Hand's Down. the trainers are Peanut farmers in the bush, the Reinke's, still bush bash with the odd horse even now , but never had another 'Good' horse . Reinke got tipped out in the Pacers Grand final after winning two heats. What a little ripper the Mate was!!!. Took a NZer to Brisbane once to take him on in the 80's named Frederick (a NZ derby runner and pretty quick) Wondai's Mate kicked his brains in , with Frederick battling 4th, running 1.55 in the 80's . super quick for those days.

Well it's been that sort of week. The sun earth and moon definitely in a line on Wednesday night !!!! lol........... Allstars winninning at Redcliffe (Virgil + Aqua Sancha) while the eclipse was on. excellent GREAT WIn !!! for KUKERACHA in the Queensland Derby yesterday (in the photo beating Hughie Bowman on the the Waller grey horse . Grand kiwi hoop JMAC wins !!! legend !!!! BRISBANE LIONS with 7 straight wins and smashing out HUGE win yesterday !!! AFL premiership Bound 2021? hell yeah! CHELSEA just now a few minutes ago in Europe, winnnnninnnng the Champions League Final ,(biggest football match there is in the world each year) and now CHAMPIONS of the WORLD !! ( my son drove over to wake me at five o'clock as is a big Manchester City supporter ) thinking he was gunna knock off my team supported. No chance !!! with the Stars aligning ! One word for it . Wahoooooooo!!. (send KRUG over for pacing Derby now?)

Pipped for 4th by Gretna Hanover? , behind the Lady (Flora d'or and Philippa Frost ) in the NI Breeders .

Hey !! all you southerners were pretty quiet about that one !!! bit dodgy ??? mmmmmm....lol ..... came right in to $4.30 and $1.30 QLD . late flurry of kiwi money ? mmmmmm I missed out. Raced horse's with Alistair Cox (a past president of the breeders association) and from Winton once, so probably a Jonny Cox relative. a lovely man and bred a few by stallion called 'Knowing Bret' . they'd arrive in Auckland from the south with 6cm coats of hair, like a yak lol....I said where on earth have these horses been? Antarctica? he said 'Southland'. Glad we were in Northland on seeing them! by golly it must of been cold down there.

you'll have to give ma a clue with 'Princess'?
-
and just for you Ranga here he is SOANGETAHA , Dereks favourite horse, and a Derby winner too (great Northern) this photo just before running 2nd in the Interdominion final at Addington.
-
Hey ther's a Southerner in this tonight !!! where's Brodies tips when you need him ?? FOLKLORE and Jonny Cox from the Deep south !!! Has to be a chance.
-
Derek Jones NZMM . outstanding man . good read this book too. No wonder Grandson Anthony Butt is so darn brilliant.
-
Courage Under Fire = 6 Derby Wins ! outstanding !. Also 6 Interdominion heat wins but closest he got was 4th in a Grand final. My dad flew up from Tassie to Brisbane in 2001 to punt on CourageUFire big , as he said was a certainty. We were packed in like sardines in the stands , was tight as can be everywhere. never seen anything like it. never happened again . YULESTAR from 4 back on the fence down the back, somehow got out , and rattled home wide to win for NZ !! tony Shaw , couldn't believe it . Raingirl's foal ATITAGAIN was 2nd, Tim and Anthony Butt were 3rd with POCKET ME as well. Courage Under Fire a 'battling' 4th . and a very grumpy old man grizzling in the stand about everything kiwi beating him hahahaha. crushed by the loss and the crowd !! hahahaha

KRUG has won both Derbies this year in NZ. looking forward to seeing him tonight again for sure. In 1963 the NZ Champion juvenile pacer TACTILE won both those as well (the NZ Derby and The Great Northern Derby) but then champion NZ horseman Robert Cameron shipped across to Aus and took out the NSW pacers derby, The South Aus Pacing Derby and the Victorian Derby !! 5 Derbies in 2 countries . Now that is brilliance.!!! I should be on the galloping thread , but you guys are the best here at the harness. Just having a look at the Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm tomorrow Who loves kiwi Chris Waller training ??? everyone... Who likes the Great NZ jockey James McDonald Riding ??? everyone... Who loves backing a Derby Winner at 14-1 odds ??? everyone.... Who loves a kiwi-bred getting out to the Derby distance of 2400m ? everyone.... and the horse too !!! (also Let's Karaka Deel and Horrifying) NZ trifecta. WELL here it is !!!!!! KUKERACHA No 3 Race 7 derby winner? The stars and moon are aligning.

Being Billed as Breeders Stakes tonight at Alexandra Park and the running of the 43rd NI Breeders Stakes. Is that the SAME race that DELIGHTFUL LADY used to always romp in with, for Mike Stormont year after year. ? It was run by the Franklin Trotting Club and from a stand. The Lady would win off any handicap in it against mares . She beat Idolmite one year and another year roaring away by half the length of the straight against the south Islanders (Flora d'or and Phillipa Frost.) She was amazing. Tonight the Breeders Stakes race is just RESTRICTED CLASS ??? that's a bit crazy? why not cater for the best mares still ? HAVTIME to 'classy ' for the race !!! so has to take on KRUG and BADtotheBONE in the following race. That is very tough on Havtime and her owners. The 'NEW ZEALAND Standardbred Breeders Stakes' was Open to all mares and was run at Addington in February. and was a thrilling race with WATCH ME NOW and Kirstin Barclay getting up the inside of Amazing Dream near the line, 9 lengths clear of third, for Victory !!! what a Win !! No doubt Kirstin has a huge picture of Amazing Dream on her wall, (covering up Watch Me Now on the inside of her) lol..... Olivia went to the outside to win with Amazing Dream last week , so that was a better idea for a good photo !!!

Hello the troll is Back !! nothing to say Ludwig ? and no sense of humour? there's no offence to anyone on my post, so go stick your Trolling downvotes on your OWN posts or where the sun don't shine, and have a beer to chill out. Davis (starting this post) and myself and a few others actually enjoy the Jewels and good harness racing from the Best horses racing in New Zealand. I am excited to be going to see the best gallopers in Australia at Eagle Farm tomorrow as well. So let's celebrate some Class !! What sort of person trolls a harness chat site.? lol..........
-
Brilliant !! I'm frothing at the mouth waiting for the Great Days racing now !! (or is that the covid causing that? no hang on, it's Melbourne in Lockdown 4th time, again for a week with a big outbreak, so we are still ok in Brisvegas, and off to the big gallops tomorrow we go. Phew...

Now that is Un-Fair comment by Gammalite. I checked out Ellerslie Fields and that is an IMPOSSIBLE MISSION to get anything out of that at all lol...... Makes Addington look a Punter's Paradise , and sincerely wish All those having an investment , A WINNER !!! We have multi $mill races tomorrow at Eagle Farm, so will be heading along to see some of the greats of racing and the Queensland Derby . LET'S KARAKA DEEL , now That is a great kiwi name in the Derby !! I'll take him for sure.

Give it to Dunn's or Hope's or Andy Gath for a trotting win. Dunn's winning heaps with Sundee and Highgrove. The Hope's stable having Quinellaed the FFA last week at Addington. top notch stuff. How about the Gath's in Victoria? Tomorrow night at Melton JUSTAMOLLYARCHER having not run a place in 20 starts in NZ past year , has WON 4 on the bounce!! in Victoria past 2 months for Kate Gath (plus a Group 3 3rd in SA Cup) So there's a great 5-1 bet for you blokes tomorrow Race 2 Melton drawn 3. !! anything for me at Addington?? No ? too hard to pick ? would be without Nat . check Auckland out instead.
-
Fillies !! yes of course ! not a dashing colt at all sorry. hope the naming is going well. Maybe you could name her WINX or MELODY BELLE that would trick a few lol.....the name DREAM BIG already gone to a trotter not long ago which is a shame. How about 'Gamma Glamour', or 'Yabba Dabba Gamma', or 'GoGo GammaGirl" ? lol. sounds a winner to me.!!! lol I wouldn't run with 'WHIPLASH SMILE' , she might get a bit erratic?. 'BRODIE' can be a girls name???? but horse ''BRODIE Lindenny' never fired a shot in three Waikato starts this year , so probably be dodging 'Brodie' in the naming stakes, if you want to have actual good luck. lol.....
-
You're on a winner there JJ , and got the Luck of the draw to from Karrots with a good one . ya betta keep him. AKUTA looks home for all money in the 2 yearold jewel as he is something special ! enjoy the ride !!. I'm looking forward to seeing if someone can take it up to KRUG in the 3 yearold. a double derby colt . he is good. can he win again? BAD TO THE BONE has come back big and strong with 2 x 2nds to Copy That this month . just won 4 races on the trot at Menangle NSW recently, so is really Powering up now. Reckon I'd try and get in the face of the KRUG camp this Friday with BAD2Bone and serve it up to them a bit , and get in their head a bit before jewels day?? but Zac will probably give B2B a 'quiet run' this Friday at Auckland in preparation for the Jewels I guess? Gammalite not ever having a quiet run, ever, doesn't believe in that , so would be Up him for the rent.. lol...........
-
Nothing wrong with punting Whippy , it sort of helps support the racing industry as we all know. and Definitely Nothing wrong with Dreaming....... Karrots dreaming of winning a Jewels with her Sweet Lou colt. Let's hope dreams come true......... and occasionally they do. JJ flash 'on the money' again there, if that's his quote. Add in this : Live Simply, Dream BIG, Be grateful, Laugh Lots !!

and kiwi's Anthony Butt and his partner Sonya Smith are smashing it in Oz too!!. Group 1's , 3rd in Miracle Mile ,++++ Is better the NZ champions being/going to Oz than going to stupid America like Dexter Dunn did anyway.

Terrific Racing On The Racenight Of Dazzling Speed . TROTRODS . I'm sure it stands for something like that ? not really sure. just made that up. but sounds good. They are using the same Top 5 drivers per race. !!!! they're doing super well. Pete 1st again in the 5th. He is going like Dexter. Narissa 2nd.
