Well no doubt the horses will have different barriers next start (barring coincidence) so will be driven differently. I strongly believe that Stipes CANNOT tell a driver how to drive a horse. They are not the trainer , and so the driver goes out there to do the best he can against the opponents assembled. If they (sites) penalized every mistimed losing ride /drive there would certainly be NOT Many left to go round in the next race.😆 Drivers/jockeys often mis-time their runs . and get beat . happens all the time . Personally, I think the Craig Ferguson drive on the 'Bit of a Yarn' favourite horse Mo'Unga was very , very poor. Mo was Never a hope in the world the way he drove it over the short distance of that race. Gave it NO HOPE whatsoever. But what can you do it about it ? grizzle to the stewards ? lol 🤣 (just wait till next time lol )

Punters are definitely fools mate. you know that. Only one in 10 wins each weekend. fools quite often really. They've been fooled since the first day of racing ever. Of course these forums are great for accusing people of cheating . Forbury even mentioned the greatest there has ever been in his lead on this thread. Mark Purdon with Amazing dream. Why on Earth would you think Craig Ferguson needs an Inca investigation ? for a losing drive? and was trying to fool the punters ? I have to say that NO driver goes out there thinking 'Lets beat the punters today' and Not have a go. goodness me. ONLY One horse Wins each race. The best horse Currently racing LEAP TO FAME got beat last week from the barrier draw. it happens. But a good horse with a Good driver beat him. exactly, As what happened to Marketplace and Republican Party last night. this is why you need no Inca on this occasion lol 😂. AS Brodie has said on this thread Auckland is a pretty shit track , going the wrong way round. Horse first time at it , driver not familiar . plenty of reasons to get beat. you wouldn't back $1.40 favs. It's just 'bookie' odds. OscarB even got well beat at those odds . Nearly backed the one that beat him too 🙄. a good trotter in Oz at times.
-
The horse is only a $1.40 shot ONLY because the bookie says so. they've fooled you guys for sure. Why should they rule the world and be better than the drivers and now the Stipes you blokes think can't do a job they are paid to do ? The first 2 horses home are Stakes winning horses. Marketplace did quite well and closed in on them late. Got The Chocolates drew one and has beaten Marketplace home a few times last year. And you all say that marketplace should beat him easily , as long as the driver gets going early enough ?? hahahaha 🤣 you're fooled twice in the one race !!! p.s As Republican Party and Mo'unga did in the fast class race . the 2 'Bookie' favourites but both ran unplaced. Bookie favourite mean Nothing , when it comes to winning races. Barrier draws do . this race a PRIME example.
-
Well No One on this thread is treating the 2 horses that Quinellaed the race with any respect either. Both Rubira and then the Choc's (twice) both beat marketplace at his first 3 starts last year. easily too. by many lengths. There's Nothing wrong with those 2 horses. My bet was on 'Got the Chocolates' from the barrier draw. I think he can win a Derby. Mark is of course always hard to beat. The problem is gallopers are allowed a run or 2 when returning from a spell to just run on late, and many many just do that and run on late , with no questions asked , and win at 2nd or 3rd run back from a spell. Poor bloody pacer's expected to win ALL the Time lol. no matter what the opponent or anything. lol. Barrier draws can beat the best of them. Driver's just do what they think is best at the time. You saw it with Mo'unga early on in his career. I was only joking about Carter being in trouble for not 'taking off sooner' . But essentially it was the same thing. Quite a good field of horses , and he ran on late first up. JOLIMONT is No Slug either. Ferguson is no champion driver , but doing better than some .
-
Think you're right Brodster. Loved the Park and went there a lot and even had some runners there in younger days when starting out. But they're better to sell it off, clear the debt, and have a track go in the right direction ( go to the left lol) 😆 North Island racing better to bet on than Australian trots tonight though. Those tracks pretty ordinary too, like Gloucester Park. You just don't know how to pick the Auckland winners 🤣. ya better stick to Pinseeker old mate
-
Gavin Smith . I did notice that in the trot . He kept attacking the hot Fav Bet N Win with his drive , and ran unplaced. sure was a go forward drive at all costs alright 😆. What a great win by that trotter after that though . Bet N Win holding out Muscle Mountain who had cosy trip behind a stable-mate bunny. Maybe 'Bet N Win' is the next big star trotter ? Brodie would like his name anyway 🤣
-
Just put Crystal on them. solve all the problems. She's winning all over the place lol. Knocking off Dominion winner Oscar B and Marky Boy now with another great drive. Kyvalley Hotspur too good. But speaking of intent , how good was it to see Jonny Cox finally have some with Pinseeker , who finally gets his 2nd win at Addington. didn't think he would beat Rakero Rebel as doesn't usually drive with intent like that lol 🤣 go go Jonny 💰.
-
Well Carter drew the outside with a short priced favourite as well. Republican Party at $2.10 . Mo'unga drawn out wide with Ferguson as well. The 2nd favourite. never a chance. Both ran unplaced. Like Marketplace drawn wide , you have to go somewhere in the running.??? It's impossible from those barriers , and as Brodster observed, Alexandra Park with that sharp crank as they turn for home and going the wrong way round , JUST makes it that little Bit Harder even. Are we throwing the book at Carter for the PubParty drive ? ( at least Marketplace got a place !! lol 😆)
-
Yes I think it's a 'numbers' and 'quality' game. Crystal always has her parents trotters to fall back on for drives , (with Bernie and Michelle being trotting experts) as the Northern racecards have often had 4 Trotting races these days when used to be only 2 for a long time. she did well for a bit to get Group 1 drives on Mach Shard and win the Messenger and that. Wilson House working hard with a large team . but only mid quality horses. a Mickey House staple. BarryP and ScottP have a very 'select' team including several Group 1 winners. so drives will be hard to get. Harrison Orange won't get much there, but is driving ability sees him get a lot of free-lance. (just like dad lol) Carter Dalgety is the cream of the talent though. Won the Auckland Cup recently and drove in the World Drivers Championship in brisvegas . Brodie 'on the money' picking him as the potential best quite a while back. Dalgety's stable have the ability to buy good yearlings and have real Top stock too. A Queensland mate of mine even has shares in 2 horses there, so their reputation is quite good .the old proven formula. Quality driver on quality stock = quality WINS . Why is the young Dunn not getting stable drives ? Jacob is it ? seems to get wins on some other stable runners. Dunn's have a lot of 'numbers' so should get some drives. Diamonds have a lot of horses but stingy on the drives. Korbyn Newman has left them to try and get drives here in Queensland lol .will be unsuccessful. That's a bit of a folly as we have 20 good drivers here who drive about 4-6 horses each, at each meeting. so they take up nearly all the drives. Newman should of gone TELFERS maybe ? 🤔, as they have the 'numbers' of horses, and as you say Josh Dickie not that 'great a driver' , and surely he is still trying to train horses with his dad up the road from Telfers northern outfit ?? Old Town Road ended up a flop and they lost confidence I think. but loved Speeding Spur (great Southern Star winner) in the trots before that though. so they do know how to train a horse ok.
-
That's an Aussie Kheir one as well I see in the famous colours he shares with John O'Neill. Exhuberance so good to see Mark Walker getting some ''outside drives' 😆 away from big Dave and co in the tangarine . He is really gunna make a name for himself with owners like those. ( they have won Cox plates, Blue Diamonds , etc)
-
Nice drive by Harrison to win the Manawatu Cup today. was hoping Wilson could pull it off, But Harrison drove the local horse Lord Delmar an absolute treat and beat the hot fav from Waterlea. a thrill for the locals there !! Peter Ferguson did win the first race ok. But the juniors of Harrison Orange , Wilson House and Crystal Hackett cleaned up the rest of the entire Racecard. I'm a big Fan of the young drivers getting a go , and those 3 are proving the point over past year lol 👍.
-
don't forget Cranbourne TABman. they recently finished the upgrade from 20 stalls to an incredible 70 . that's a lot of Bloodstock to manage daily. So Mark Walker has to come over now himself, and manage that lot himself , as Gleeson (assistant) was just doing the 20 horses. Did a great job with Imperatriz at the time though. Will this leave Te Akau vulnerable in NZ now ? with the head Trainer now going to Victoria ?
-
thought the Number One rule was backing the micky House Team at Manawatu ?😎 I'll be backing Wilson , HarrisonO and Crystal today in my TRI's . these young guns can beat those Old codger Fergies duo more often than not. Great young drivers. those old boys a bit 'tired' like David Butcher lol . 😂 Bit of a fluke those first 2 races that Forb's is worried about lol. Best of luck with your treble anyway. (Gotta Elect Bill seems generous odds in the Manawatu Cup prelude too)
-
that 2nd Placegetter in that Auckland Cup was amazing finish as well from the back. Tajanis went super. Would be putting him in a Melbourne Cup program starting tomorrow 😋 between him and Trav they dot the i's and cross the T's for a great shot at the BIG dance Cup. (Tajanis has more i's than Trav, so I'm going for him 😁 ) And will win it too, running like that. 🏇🏆💰

Oscar Bonavena up first shortly in a Group 1 trot. They just had the NSW Derby Final at Menangle in the lead-up program.. Emma Stewart to the fore with her good colts. (Grant Dixon with 2 QLDers did ok though 2nd and 4th) Did you see the race Mr Galah ? was very interesting to note how a lot of those colts were throwing their heads around quite badly. two of them even going off stride with the restraint needed to go 2400m when they're not used to it. They really needed a head check for balance , and control. Do you remember in the 80's NZ 'Everything' raced with a head check to keep it's head up and horse under control. ? when the Aussie Preux Chevalier came over to attempt the NZ CUp (he got 4th) he was one of the first I ever saw racing with out one ( they all do now lol) Preux won the Interdominion around that time , and the 1985 Miracle Mile too , and he started to set the trend of 'throwing away the head check' away altogether. Because he had fine balance and gait. think he was Lumber Dream nz-bred actually?.

The Big night has Arrived. Here's the latest odds. Captain Ravishing of Grimson's seems short. Must be because Swayzee will give him the lead to get easy trail, and no-one else (at a guess) 2 SWAYZEE CAMERON HART 4.00 1.60 3 DON HUGO LUKE MCCARTHY 5.90 3.10 4 SOONER THE BETTOR GAVIN FITZPATRICk 34.70 4.70 5 CAPTAIN RAVISHING JACK CALLAGHAN 7.90 2.20 6 MAX DELIGHT WILL RIXON 43.20 6.10 7 TACT MCLEOD ANTHONY BUTT 13.20 2.20 8 LEAP TO FAME GRANT DIXON 2.60 1.10 9 CATCH A WAVE KATE GATH 8.30 2.10

Well he has started already. Had 2 horses in last Friday and both won ok. 'Without You' paid $1.40 and trifecta was $203. and 'Rubira' paid $2.10 and trifecta $97. so unfortunately the trifecta's are paying too well for you. you'd Better stick to Westport and Southland 😉.

Samantha's Moon beating 6 Williamson trotters today. That is quite a good feat indeed !!! Kirsten's Big moment was 4 years ago winning the Group 1 Breeders stakes at Addington in Feb 21'. Beat the million dollar mare 'Amazing Dream' by a Head with WATCH ME NOW. (they were 10 lengths clear of 3rd and the field) so to beat Mark Purdon in that sort of race shows she must have plenty of ability. was a great drive. Of course when a horse wins a big one like that the offers come In , and Watch Me Now sold off to the yanks soon after. with a good record of 7 wins from 17 starts in NZ. Is a shame these sort of trainers don't get to keep their 'Real good' horses and make a bit of a name for themselves. just go back to the back-blocks looking for another after sending their star horses off to USA or AUS. Poor horses left behind make you look poor lol 🤣😎
-
Well Te Akau no good in Oz with Captured By Love sadly Chief. Mr Zhang and his Yu Long colours flying out in front by lengths . with Treasure The Moment. It's quite a horse that one. is gunna win heaps. Very impressive wins lately. you'd think Yu Long would be happy with Via Sistina winning everything? lol 😅. paid 10 million for her so I guess she should win something lol. At least Magic Time got beat into 3rd just now . Yu Long winning quite enough already 😎 . Godolphin Shiehk took out the ALL STAR MILE. off course no happy owners bouncing around trackside there either, with Tom Kitten . the pussycat getting the win today for the Blue army. no one to film all excited though 😋 They did find the neutral ambassador lady (covered in tattoo's) to interview though. She had won $100,000 , from drawing the 'Kitten' in the 'draw of horses for the Mile. she was quite funny lady. Gunna buy herself a race horse now. Do you think she knows how much they pay for these things ???🤣😂 she's in for quite a shock I think.
-
Nice win Chief !! Te Akau strike again.🏆💰 Tiz great thing, as they have bucketloads of owners don't they ? Gets a bit boring with Goldolphin Billionaire Shiehk and Yulong Billionaire Asian dude, or chicken King progeny owners winning in Oz feature races all the time 🙄.

That great time of year when the champions of the track strutt their stuff. Are you guys getting behind Sooner The Bettor ( after a great 2nd place last year) and Ant's on the new kid on the block Tact McLeod ? or giving in to the power of Leap To Fame and conceding defeat ? the miracle could happen and someone knock him off. some great ones have come up a little short in some fabulous past Miracle Miles. the late great Vinnie sitting parked out here in photo a lap to go, in front of the huge crowd managed to Win the day still somehow, got a bit lucky lol 😁.

I'm sure those that go along will have a great time, and see some of the best horses going . The horses look so fabulous in the parade ring / birdcage especially. you can see them up close and enjoy the atmosphere. The tele coverage is excellent for these events this century as well though. So a lot of people enjoy their own food and drinks in their favourite chair/couch , while enjoying the amazing action. Just the way it is these days. On-course attendances are only a small part of the viewing audience. certainly not the be-all/end-all of it. Great win today by NZ in the cricket. but it won't mean bigger attendances at the cricket. Just a sign of the times , and the state of the economy has a lot to do with it as well. Household budgets running fairly tight with Bigger mortgages and rents these days , than we encountered in the days of large on-course attendances at the races. The owners (slot holders) put up a lot of money themselves these days , to put against each other . this is a good way to go now and into the future, and has been quite successful in the harness world past 4 years, as the horses can race for BIG stakemoney , which means not only do we get the Best horses assembled and therefore the Best racing , but some horses earn a good bit of earnings as well , without breaking the industry funds annual budget.

When you run them in New Zealand. With the crisis of having not enough horses to race anymore , the Addington FFA class of horse standard has reached an all-time low tonight. race 7 In a bit of a joke really Steven Reid has 2 of the favourites who both Boast 11 career Starts for 4 wins each . (and could nearly Quinella it) Old entire 'Beach Ball' could nearly win first up , with that class of horse in it . Where's Wag Star this week ? could of taken this out .got a gutbuster the other day I spose. The North Island having the same problem of course with The Big Lebowski and Hey Bartender taking on Copy That not that long ago while 4 or 5 low class win horses. The horses have to do some hard yards (work their way through the grades) BEFORE they take on the big Guns (of 'Real FFA class') like Merlin and that. If they don't they will be frizzled out like Hey bartender, Simply Sam , Taipo, and a host of others that were sizzled before they were ready for it. Solution : Run more MID-class races (every week) with small fields (so MORE horse achieve this requirement) so horses gain confidence, gain some ratings and don't have to start in FFA at just their 11th race start s? Same thing happened to the trotters . Only 6 horses in a Group 3 trot classic tonight. 5 are nice trotters. (the number 1 should of been sold off to Oz a while back) Sundee's Son and Muscle Mountain and Bolt for Brilliance destroyed the nations trotters with outstanding smashing displays in fast time. Your nation of trotters hasn't recovered yet. 'One Over All' and 'Just Believe' both flying in from Aus and then 'having a picnic' feeding on the carcass of NZ Trotting FFA class. used to chock full of talent . not much left now 🤕

NZ galloping form is very hard to follow. many horses have a zero then a win , then a zero . that sort of thing. so you are right , that does make it hard to pick one. Vic gallopers are Much more consistent. I think you would find serious HORSE Punters in NZ would be backing Australia gallops meetings . alas, couldn't get a winner Friday Albion, but bounced back ok Saturday with an Ellerslie Guinea's winner and My other 2 bets at Caulfield were She's Bulletproof (narrowly defeated at 6-1 Oakleigh Plate ) and Mr Brightside who always turns up and gives his best. Horses that try are what I look for lol. Mr Brightside is a real star at that. I liked The Janitor for QLD at Menangle in the Paleface Adios Stakes too. went great , but too far back this week in the run . made up many lengths. Got a bit last week though when Cam Hart, a better driver was steering him. The harness horses of high calibre like those are great, they run true to form and give you a run for your money nearly every time. Muscle Mountain and Oscar B for example. They just bounce back so quickly after a defeat ( I lost a bit on Oscar in the Great Southern Star) . Oscar has won twice since, bouncing back quickly, over here already 😅 , the old bugger lol 🤣. But the calibre of horse at Washdyke like Arizona Wildcat being tipped ?? that just made me laugh out loud 😂. How would anyone want to even risk a single dollar on that sort of horse.? Newmarket was tipping pounamu on a thread whose form is this Last Start 23/02/2025 Form 506760200565 Very hard to invest anything on that? with all those nice gallopers (like Mr Brightside) in action around the place.🏇 Focus on NZ harness you say? you just couldn't with any confidence??. so many better options around. where your horse is actually in the race and not tailed off due to some unfortunate incident lol.😁 And real Punters actually like to Win , not just hope they can win. (You need horses that try to Win to do this)

For all you armchair experts - here is a view from the Sulky seat!
Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Trotting Chat
Loved the way though that he gave it a flick flick flick right at the start , even though drawn on the second line 😂. Got the horse switched on nicely , and he knew it was 'race-time' . Brilliance . I think this great video shows how little time you have over a mile. They jump into formation so quickly it is almost like the horse knows where to go from the barrier it has !! 😂👍 they're beautifully tuned these days. That's where NZ is slightly behind . still running a lot of standing starts , and too long a races and too many in the field a lot of the time as well , which REALLY stops them ALl having a chance of winning the race. No doubt those long grass tracks straights and 2400m + distances they often go (taking about 3 minutes of time ) do give the driver a chance to 'buy or' bide' his time a bit better. A lot tougher on the horses though . Brodster is right, in that the mile racing is quite boring in comparison though. And it also means the New Zealand drivers are really good at rating horses over those longer distances so become excellent drivers. I've been quite surprised at how good Cam Hart and Jason Lee handled it at Addington, but they are absolute Top Notch. The bloke winning in this video winning had a drive on a trotter in your NZ trotting Derby 2 years ago. Nathan Dawson got hung out to dry by some good locals though and was 3 wide for a lap, but still a credible 4th. so he would struggle with the NZ style. The mile driving becomes almost instinct. Just ask Dexter. Every race USA. It's just a speed burn.
